What really and truly pisses me off about that is, I happen to know for a fact that it really shouldn't AND wouldn't be that way, if Prince wasn't so busy being...well...PRINCE!!! Real talk, right this very minute...Prince should be reigning motherfucking SUPREME over the ENTIRE music industry!!!

BEFORE there was Tidal, Spotify, I heart Radio, iTunes, Pandora, Google Play, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube-- Prince was the only mainstream SUPERSTAR that had on his own, seen the potential of what the internet could and would, eventually be. So much so, in 2006, on the 10th Anniversary of Webby Awards, they saw it fit to give him a Lifetime Achievement Award, even with the hit and misses, he'd had regarding the internet that us grandpa Orgers happen to KNOW about, first hand.

Had he gotten his EGO out of the way and actually LISTENED to the people that would not just bow down and blow smoke up his ass because he was Prince and once upon a time, he was funky, he'd have had the largest internet following of ANY major Superstar BEFORE the term Social Media existed. Hell, truth be told...in the early 2000's, I hated chat rooms because when you posted a comment, it took way too much effort to see what you posted and replies to it and if you logged out, forgetaboutit! However, the very reason other than obvious Prince factors, that I gravitated to the Org and what used to be Housequake.com was for the "forum" format...because I could post a comment, leave, come back and easily find what I'd said and any replies to it. For all intents and purposes back then, there were hundreds of thousands of hardcore Prince fans blazing out trails all over the new frontier that was and would become the internet as we know it today. Before he purposely, deliberately and continually chose to piss us off royally...just because he's Prince and no one could do that better. rolleyes

Add to that, the conversations, the music, the videos...that were made available through the efforts of those of us...that supported and cared about Prince and his legacy...his internet presence and success was flat out the leader of the pack, way before Jay married Bey and he hadn't got to his 99th problem yet! lol shrug

So so true. Dont you just want to smack the taste out of Prince's mouth? "I dont need a manager." Yeah, RIGHT.

Well of course he is, he is the leader of the illuminati with Beyonce as his queen. Prince as far as I know is not in the illuminati because of his Jehovah Witness beliefs.

.

But it is sad that these shit hoppers who sing about bitches and drugs and materialism are richer and bigger stars than true musicians like Prince.

.

He may be, but at least Prince does not have tyre tread lips (They look like burnt sausages that jumped off a bbq on to his face, honestly they are like an inch thick each) and is not ugly as fuck.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

If Jay Z is more "influential" to today's generation... well...that just shows how low today's generation's standards are.
Jay Z can't touch Prince on talent, nor the amount of incredible "songs". The only thing I'll say Jay Z has over Prince is a better business mind. If Jay Z would have been doing his thing in the 80s and early to mid 90s, this wouldn't even be a topic.
Prince's peak has come and gone, but he's till the man to anyone who knows true, raw musical talent.

This is such a perfect summarization of how Prince got low enough to bet on Beats By Josh and Fake-Z. We need a KickStarter to print it on a banner and fly it from a plane above Paisley Park.

Well I like hip hop and don't understand people who dismiss the whole genre.

The problem is that you've been on this site for years dismissing every single thing he has done. No one is aware of you liking just one tiny Prince song in the last 15 years. The closest I've seen you saying something not entirely negative was maybe for Circle of Amour or When Will we B Paid, or calling The Breakdown half decent but shittily recorded.

You might want to think about that before complaining about people with closed minds and set-in-stone opinions.

Businesswise jay z like sean combs is carving out an influence that can serve for generations to come.. in a different way.

Prince is music personified. That will be his claim in history. You cant really compare the two, they are both important.

But musically JayZ's music while its had its moment - has had nowhere near the influence of Princes music.

Princes influences will be heard forever.

Several years ago, I'd have wholeheartedly agreed with you and likely actually said something similar to that myself. However, contrary to popular belief-- I honestly do live in the now...as opposed to the past-- and with that being said. In the now, Prince...himself... seems to personally be making it so that his influences WILL NOT be heard forever. From all that I can fathom, he's on a one man mission of making sure his influences aren't even memories. hmm

Get in touch with reality if you listen to music that is out right now. You have a half a dozen artist who sound like Prince because you are not able to go to Youtube and listen to music without actually buying it does not mean is influence is going away. Older fans may not go to Tidal or use any of the other streaming services but younger people seem to like and appear to have little or no interest in buying music so if Prince stays with Tidal or goes to another service plenty of people who are not on walkers will get a chance to hear his music and gets a royalty check

Jay-Z is 10 times the business man Prince is.

Prince is 10 times the artist Jay-Z is.

Prince's influence is massive, he's an icon whose influence has stayed strong through 3 decades and and he's frequently described as the ultimate musician, or music personified -- even at the beginning of a negative review.

Meh.. not really. So much of what Jay-Z has done in the record business comes only after Prince blazed that trail. Jay is better about marketing his brand and, has made a number of saavy business decisions outside of the music industry, but given where Prince started and what the industry looked like in 1979 and where things are in 2015... and Prince's evolution over that time, I can't hate on Prince as a business man right now. His only major busines mistakes involve holding out to long for and banking on the rights to his masters, and not fully capitalizing on his branding oppurtunities when he still had that type of cache with young people.

Aerogram said:

Prince has ten times the skills Jay-Z has, but I have no idea why you'd say he is 10 times the artist. Jay-Z is an artist, if nothing else. He is commonly improperly described mostly in terms of money and power, and much of that, imo, is how he carries himself. His image is that of a strong, streat-smart, black male, so for some (not saying you) a lot of asumptions come with that territory. But if you consider that Jay's only talent are his words, and then how iconic so many of those words are. To me Jay-Z is true street poet, and I feel like, as an artist he is one of, maybe, 5 rappers who are at least in the conversation as true artists. I love Prince as an artist as well, but understanding all the skills it takes to make a great song... Prince isn't that far ahead of Jay with his creativity. Ahead yes, but it isn't a blow-out be any means.

Jay is in his 3rd decade. He will still be there in his 4th. Love Prince, but a lot of what you read about him in the music press since around, at least 1990, is circle-jerk. These days the person writing the articles and reviews, seems to barely give a damn. They are almost always so factualy incorrect that it's comical. They are completely out of touch with his true identity because he hasn't made culturaly-relevant music in decades. So they throw out any random set of compliments as though it's essay due before midnight.

seems like Camel has always been a master at creating and cultivating relationships with people and corporations that could help him develop his brand(s) and increase its value even beyond the music arena...he even worked with Nas after a deeply personal and public feud...Prince has never seemed interested in partnering or networking with other artists or business interests...he was too busy making decades of timeless art...seems like he burned more bridges than he built...whether thats due to lack of business acumen, or because he gave no fucks, is known only to him...doesnt matter anyway...P probably still spending Purple Rain money...both these cats is wealthy...much respect due to both

Prince just sold Jay-Z the streaming rights to a BS remix album by one of his protoges, instead of an actual Prince album... for the cash price to the streaming rights of an ACTUAL Prince album, and most likely an equity interest in Tidal... and yet you think Jay-Z is the better businessman... biggrin
