This is a catchy song, at first it feels like a kitchen sink style song and is completely confusing, but with repeated listens it starts to make sense. I like the eastern style riff and the meldoy is quite clever in the verse, it kind of slinks around a bit. Sometimes on these kind of tracks Prince will have quite a samey style melody and let the groove of the song do the heavy lifting, but here it keeps the verse fresh. It is kind of slow initally and then builds up to the faster "I come from north minny" bridge which leads nicely in to the chorus.

Prince does an oowwaa for the first time in decades (that I can remember) and there is a keyboard riff that is taken from a classic '80s song that I can't place, so Josh has access to everything. It always catches me out as well for the coda, where I think Like a Mack has started, because there is a bit of my brain that says the next song is a bit slower, so when Josh is playing with the electronics it sounds like a different track.

I like the synth wooshy EDM style keyboards that underpins the track, it works well with all the other elements. This has that ear worm quality that makes it a bit of a stand out to the album and I do think with a video and Rita's presence this could be a hit.

I like the songs that push him into places he's not gone before, even if those places are silly or cheesy. That is what this song does better than any other on the album.

Way too much of his music of the last decade rehashes this same theme of "I make great music" but the sound of this is totally fresh (for Prince). Weird lyrics that are rhythmically interesting, and a nice mix of hip hop and melody.

The guitar adds perfectly to the Eastern vibe where the guitar for Like a Mack sounds like something old and stale.

The vocals are affected in a nice way that I thought Prince had forgotten how to do. Seems like his vocals lately are totally dry (unless they're autotuned) and they don't lay nicely into the mix.

None of this is to say that the song is profound or important, but it works perfectly from start to end.

One of the very worst songs on the album and amongst the worst he has ever issued. Total sell out rap crap aimed at mouthbreeders and juveniles. This song features Rita Ora, a very low quality British rap/pop singer and is just bombastic, computer injected, 2001 style r&b autotune nonsense. I give it a 1/10 and place it below Boytrouble. It is a 57 year old man acting like an IQ 66 15 year old wannabe rapper.

.

Boytrouble is adore next to this rubbish.

It's such a painful song to listen to. I mean, I almost feel like I want to punch or break something after listening to it. One of the worst.

Whilst your distaste for the song is not an issue, I am confused as to how you hear a C&D vibe in it. I dont think you could get more chalk and cheese if you had a peice of chalk in one hand, and a slice of cheese in the other.

Shouldn't this song be called "ain't about to start"?
Crazy Prince.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I was not feeling this pandering to the youth tune. I understand the experiment but...really immature. For someone to compose Way Back Home, Plectrum, then this..its like...ya..ya know what....aa aahhh
