I will be listening close to see if he understands what experimental means. Because when I mentioned in an earlier post that I would like him to do more of that...it was songs like Mountains, Crystal Ball & All My Dreams that I had in mind. So if there are any songs on the album that tickle my whimsy like these do I will be happy.

I really need prince to use his main instrument — his voice — more and I'll be happy. When he screams, hits those deep loooowww notes and sky high falsettos all within one song, it is usually a winner. And any song with lots of percussion will be greatly appreciated.

Can the mods set up individual thread for each song?. We did that once in the past and it makes browsing much easier.

I just can't believe all the things people say !

firts listen:

1. Million Dollar Show - Mah. Not so bad, but not good.

2. Shut This Down - Ok. Nothing new, but not bad at all. It works in context.

3. Ain't About 2 Stop (featuring Rita Ora) - A strong duet. Working fine. One of the best.

4. Like A Mack - Mah.

5. This Could B Us - Mah.

6. Fallinlove2nite - Better with only Prince voice

7. X's Face - It works in context.

8. Hardrocklover - The more "rock" place here.

9. Mr. Nelson - Ouch.

10. 1,000 Xs and Os - Good song. Another good moment.

11. June - The best song with track 3. A great Prince tune with no chorus.

Repost from other thread:

-Slightly better than expected
.
-WAY TO NOISY. both on the mastering side and the production side. Certain songs (specifically LIKE A MACK) have the foundations of a decent groove via the live instruments, but is cluttered with voice and sound effects
.
-IMO from TCBU TO MR. Nelson might be the one of the worst song sequences he's put out
.
-Songs (like June for example) are too short and/or abruptly end right when you're starting to get into it.
.
-Lastly, other that 1000 X's and O's (best song on the album) it doesn't have that "Prince" feel that all his albums have. It truly felt like a Josh album with Prince singing over his beats
.
Final verdict: Slighly better than expected, but rather dissapointing. 2/5.

Slightly dissapointed as well... I'm viewing this just as a remix album.

In my opinion the best song on the album is 1000 X's and O's.

[Updated After 5-6 listens]:

10. 1000 X'S & 0'S

-/- Starting here b/c the title offends me. The apostrophe suggests the possessive not a plural and it's "O" (the letter "0h"), no "0" (zero). But I'll get back to this later. It should be "1000 Os & Xs." Maybe it will be fixed on the non Tidal versions.

1. MILLION $ SHOW

[same] 0/10. blah, a hot mess, skip it, will delete it from my iTunes album. [ If Josh needs to rehash snippets from classics to help open/save the song, the song is too weak. ]

2. SHUT THIS DOWN

[5/10] 3/10. I love when Prince screams. Back in the (pre L.G.) day it would have been "SHUT THIS MF DOWN."

[ If this is the Josh phase, It's gonna be over soon. Hopefully. This whole exercise was a gimmick, not worthy of Prince's brand. Hope it helps JayZ's thing stay afloat. ]

3. AIN'T ABOUT TO STOP

[4/10] 2/10. boring despite being loud and bombastic

4. LIKE A MACK

[7/10] 3/10. Curly Fryz rap is fine. Hornz are fine. Prince's rap is sub par. But that's it. [ This has grown on me. A lot. ]

5. THIS COULD B US

[same] 4/10. Not sold.

[ This was a nice gig for Josh. I'm happy for him. But let's keep him out of the studio from now on please and just give him front row seats at the concerts. ]

6. FALLINLOVE2NITE

[same] 2/10. I like the Zooey Deschanel / New Girl version which was 8/10. This added nothing to it. No new clever lyrics. No amazing drum, horn or guitar solos. The extended version of "America" this is not, but it could/should have been.

7. X'S FACE

[same] 8/10. I love this song! Really. (This version isn't significantly better than the one I already downloaded months ago.) And it so could/should have been greater. Still one of my favorite tracks on the album.

8. HARDROCKLOVER

[same] 3/10. Just not one of Prince's best. It kinda hurts my ears, kinda.

9. MR. NELSON

[7/10] 4/10. blah Like one of the Cream remixes, but weaker. [ This has grown on me. A lot. ]

10. 1000 X'S & 0'S (sic) / Part 2:

[7/10] 1/10. Not like a classic luscious 70's soul track — which it should have been. Lyrically underwhelming. One would have hoped that his recent gigs with Stevie Wonder would have rubbed off and inspired greatness. But Nope. [ The instruments make up for the sophomoric lyrics. We know Prince can do better. "C" for effort. ]

11. JUNE

[same] 9/10. Hmmm! Nice. I love when Prince just SINGS and lets a narrative flow. But it's like a gem (or a dollar coin...) you find in the dirt. You have to clean it off from everything else. Too short. [ On a better album, I would have given it a 10/10, but it's pulling too much dead weight on this album. ]

I'll be unsubscribing from Tidal Tuesday [...or Friday]. I wasted some very good money. Fool me once.... From a first look, Tidal doesn't even look like any artist has invested their best work in it — including JayZ and MsB. A great remix version of Prince songs should have had songs [on par with grooves] like "America (21.41 minute version)," "P Control (Remix)," "Come On," "Cream" and so many others. This failed.

"F"

But speaking of F, I'm so looking forward to the "FreeUrself" album. (Send Josh on vacation with Larry Graham & Co.)

Ok, after a full listen, I have to say I REALLY REALLY like this album. I have zero interest in saying it's his best in **** years or it's a masterpiece or whatever. I can say I'll be listening to it all day tomorrow and I'm really digging it. A few specific comments are....

***

1) The album has its own vibe and sound; clearly building further on the AOA sound but more fully realized here.

***

2) Prince's voice sounds great; can't pinpoint this moment or that but I thought it a number of times

***

3) Fallinlove2nite sounds much better than the "New Girl" version

***

4) June is AMAZING TO ME

***

Yeah...a great album!

V10LETBLUES

Fallinlovetonight is as crap as ever. Really?

How.

Why.

WTF.

No need to wonder why WB didn't want further encur loses entertaining Prince's goofing off and his ego. That he somehow felt that such a pos track would make it into an album says it all.

Poor Josh. Sad that Prince had to pin all this crappiest album on him.

The first few tracks are cringe worthy, still Hardrocklover and Mr Nelson are kinda good though.
