In my humble opinion, this is P's worst album to date. Feels like a few loose ideas he threw to kids to practice making electronic music on. Josh's entire bag of production tricks (not many) are exposed here. If Prince is a musical sponge then he needs to start hanging with some real musicians again.

I love AOA. I think I'm going to have to listen a few times to HitNRun to determine whether I love it or just like it. No matter what I still think Prince should remain his own producer.

Million $ Show - Boring, nothing special 1/5

Shut this down - Very good song but way to short 4/5

Ain't about to stop - Makes me wonder if it's a Prince album I'm listening to, it's ok 3/5

Like a mack - It's a good song, I like it - 4/5

This could be us remix - It's an ok song, the best thing is still the guitar solo 2/5

Fallinlove2nite- Just doesn't work without Zooey 1/5

X's face - Weak track 1/5

Hardrocklover - Boring 1/5

Mr.Nelson - Boring remix of Clouds 1/5

1000 X's and 0's - Great song, I like this new version 4/5

June - It's ok, not much going on in this song and it ends to soon 2/5

HITNRUN 2/5

To many weak songs and skippers. Now where is Free Urself?

Ok so in the end its about what I expected...somewhat underwhelming. However, there are some gems.

This is the new HITNRUN:PHASE 1

1 - Shut This Down I dig the My Name Is P and Slave vibe to this track. downnnn

2 - Like A Mack - surprised I dig this one . The CurlyFryz work - nice horn work and P's fire!

3 - HARDROCKLOVER - simply the best track he written and performed in years! Plus the hit should always be track 3...just saying...oh and where's the long version Mr Nelson???

4 - Aint About To Stop - cool song and collab - diggin it

5 - 1000 Xs and Os - dope. Great rework of the original. And the vocal layering....YES!!!!!

6 - June - WOW! Truly phenomenal...love this type of laid back experimental Prince. Also great to see Way Back Home has a sequel and its AMAZING! Bravo P! And yes more of this Mr nelson please...must be the pasta must be the pasta..CLASSIC

6 outta 11 yep thats about right....

Very underwhelmed... I'm assuming this is just a remix album...

Hardrocklover

1000 X's and O's are my two favorite tracks.

First impressions: very short album, very noisy and with too many remixes or songs that we knew. The positives... I'll have to listen to it a few more times, but I kind of like the overall sound...

10. 1000 X'S & 0'S

-/- Starting here b/c the title offends me. The apostrophe suggests the possessive not a plural and it's "O" (0h), no "0" (zero). But I'll get back to this later. It should be "1000 Xs & Os." Maybe it will be fixed on the non Tidal versions.

1. MILLION $ SHOW

0/10. blah, a hot mess, skip it, will delete it from my iTunes album

2. SHUT THIS DOWN

3/10. I love when Prince screams. Back in the (pre L.G.) day it would have been "SHUT THIS MF DOWN."

[ If this is the Josh phase, It's gonna be over soon. Hopefully. This whole exercise was a gimmick, not worthy of Prince's brand. Hope it helps JayZ's thing stay afloat. ]

3. AIN'T ABOUT TO STOP

2/10. boring despite being loud and bombastic

4. LIKE A MACK

3/10. Curly Fryz rap is fine. Hornz are fine. Prince's rap is sub par. But that's it.

5. THIS COULD B US

4/10. Not sold.

[ This was a nice gig for Josh. I'm happy for him. But let's keep him out of the studio from now on please and just give him front row seats at the concerts. ]

6. FALLINLOVE2NITE

2/10. I like the Zooey Deschanel / New Girl version which was 8/10. This added nothing to it. No new clever lyrics. No amazing drum, horn or guitar solos. The extended version of "America" this is not, but it could/should have been.

7. X'S FACE

8/10. I love this song! Really. (This version isn't significantly better than the one I already downloaded months ago.) And it so could/should have been greater. Still one of my favorite tracks on the album.

8. HARDROCKLOVER

3/10. Just not one of Prince's best. It kinda hurts my ears, kinda.

9. MR. NELSON

4/10. blah, like one of the Cream remixes, but weaker.

10. 1000 X'S & 0'S / Part 2:

1/10. Not like a classic luscious 70's soul track — which it should have been. Lyrically underwhelming. One would have hoped that his recent gigs with Stevie Wonder would have rubbed off and inspired greatness. But Nope.

11. JUNE

9/10. Hmmm! Nice. I love when Prince just SINGS and lets a narrative flow. But it's like a gem (or a dollar coin...) you find in the dirt. You have to clean it off from everything else. Too short.

I'll be unsubscribing from Tidal Tuesday. I wasted some very good money. Fool me once.... From a first look, Tidal doesn't even look like any artist has invested their best work in it — including JayZ and MsB. A great remix version of Prince songs should have had songs like "America (21.41 minute version)," "P Control (Remix)," "Come On," "Cream" and so many others. This failed.

"F"

But speaking of F, I'm so looking forward to the "FreeUrself" album. (Send Josh on vacation with Larry Graham & Co.)

I'll give a bigger first impressions later, but after listening to the album, I saw all the extra albums prince has added to tidal, so I clicked on Slaughter House to check if the sound quality has been improved, clicked on Daisy Chain and listened to the first minute of it.....that one minute was more experimental, more funky, more creative than anything on Hitnrun.

38 minutes. Shortest album in quite a while. Hopefully this will be soon complemented by Phase Two...

So what do you mean by that--Daisy Chain is actually experimental, funky, and creative, OR Hitnrun is really really really lacking in all those departments?

You know Bobby Womack did this the right way when he let Jamie X do his production on "The Bravest Man in the Universe" cd. If Prince wants to experiment, why choose a rookie producer like Josh ? Why not go with someone like Rick Rubin, Nike Godrich, Jamie X, Ferrel, etc.?

Interesting that there is a new Prince & 3EG video on TIDAL now called INDIFFERENCE in which Prince sings 'I'll make another MASTERPIECE but you'll still be a bore!" Is Prince making a point?

I wonder if he realizes when he releases crap stuff.
I would say that I am glad I didn't subscribe to TIDAL, but
in all honesty, there was no way I was going to pay money
to subscribe to that rich artist spank-fest anyways.

But, seriously, I wonder if Prince actually knows when
he releases junk these days; or, is it that he actually believes
what he releases is worthy of paying TIDAL premiums for or shelling
out money for.

Essentially, what old boy did was release a mix-tape, charged
for it, and scrwe up every possible opportunity to promote it
correctly..... in other words, he's just doing what he
has been doing for years. sigh

oh wait.. Slaughter House is on Tidal?????

are there any other expected P titles on there?

Are the 90's album there too? Even Emancipation?

thanks

oh - its kind of weird.. i really have no interest in the new one.. that Josh is just the worst and I am OVER the 3rd Eye Girl era... i really want him to move on from this sludge...

but 90's P = gorgeousness.

very wise posts...

i think the answer is that Josh is not a 'threat'... I mean, Rick Rubin or Nigel Godrich would just have too much of their own point of view to bring to the project. From what we know of Prince, he probably would really struggle with someone like this taking control.

There is something benign about working with a low profile type producer that probably appeals to Prince. Its kind of passive aggressive.. while he isnt in control.. .hes kind of in control...

just my 2 cents..

but lets hope this wave is done.... ive had it with this crap

It isn't really a new album is it? Mr Nelson, This could b us, fall in love and 1000 xs and os are not exactly new. I'm willing to give it the chance to grow on me but so far I'm hugely underwhelmed. Too many remixes. Too much annoying sound effects. I liked art official age. I love the original versions of clouds and this could be us. The new versions are horrible. I know some people will like it, everyone has their own tastes but this just isn't mine.

huge Prince fan but - not the strongest effort really on this one - after 2 listens -

------------

really like:

Shut This Down

Ain't About 2 Stop

1,000 Xs and Os

Like A Mack

Hardrocklover - track order does not work , this should have been after June, this and Shut This Down are the best 2

------------

these are all right:

Million Dollar Show - would be better if he sang more on it

June - interesting but not a classic

------------

filler , which would be fine if there were more music on the release:

X's Face - really like this but have had it

mr.nelson - why bother

Fallinlove2nite - ok song, but old

This Could B Us - nice mix and all but as one of the tracks on an album with so few songs?

-------------

Am happy some rare releases are seeing the light of day again (even on Tidal) - about time they have been made available - but not being able to 'own' them in such better quality sucks.

-------------

HITnRUN PhaseOne - 5.5/10

-------------

HITnRUN PhaseTwo please , quickly!

I'm usually over positive. Friends and family say I'd like 'anything' that Prince puts out. Turns out they were wrong.

First listen, I think this is shit.

The last two songs are excellent. Hardrocklover is good too, but the others neutral neutral neutral

Worst first listen of a Prince album I've ever expereinced.

I'm hoping I can get it on in my car and listen properly.

So you really like 6 tracks (over half the album) and think 2 are all right and you gave it 5.5/10? Basically you won't skip 6 to 8 songs on an 11 song album and it's a 5.5? Ok I respect it.
