nod Prince likes working with these young people because it's easier for him to control them.He doesn't like to work with people who are his 'equals' (same age group). This is also why he only dates young women. They're easier to control and manipulate smile

[/quote Yes because Prince knows how to control people's mind !!!! Did you really just type that? What people of his caliber should he work with? Not that many people of his caliber around and those that are around are not going to drop what they are doing to work with Prince.

1984 - Prince has a new album coming out next week. Asked to describe it, he says "It's much more hard rock, unlike anything I've done to this point. It features some very intricate chord progressions".

1987 - Prince has a new album coming out next week. Asked to describe it, he says, "It's a double album and it's completely unlike anything I've done before. There isn't much rock or pop on it but it does feature some influences I really like".

These could have perfectly described the lead-up to both "Purple Rain' and "Sign O' The Times" - almost universally acknowledged as his two best albums. And had there been an Org at that time, i am absolutely 100% sure there would have been numerous threads just like this one. "It's gonna suck!" say people who've not heard the album.

I'm going to have to disagree on that one.

Different times. Prince was in a different space at the time. Far beyond where he is now as a culture.

Yeah there would be someone who doesn't like an album, of course but Prince was golden then

I understand lowered expectations, but this is a guy that has filled all our iPods with literally days of great music.

Even though I think the term "experimental" means "I won't like it", and I haven't cared much for what Josh has done, I'm not going to assume I'll hate this album.

I've found at least one song on every single Prince album that I absolutely love. I see no reason to think that will change now!

Prince doing Afrobeat? I'd be down for some Fela-esque Prince music any day! cool

Ethiopian music isn't really Afrobeat. There is a great compilation series called Ethiopiques if you're curious.

Thanks for the suggestion. wink

“You know people always ask me… ‘Why don’t I get the Revolution back together?’ ” Prince pauses, then turns and smiles. “But, I mean…for what?”

I'm not one who feels the only "great" music Prince released was during the years he was associated with the Revolution members, but they were all such young kids then and did deliver some fabulous music. Each of them has grown with different life experiences--I'd like for them to reunite just to see how they could translate into music all they've learned and experienced since they broke up. They are all most talented, and I'm sure it would be terrific.

Makes sense. Prince seriously doesnt need to go back to something that he has transcended a hundred times. If he ever does it, I am out - all 37 years of devoted fandom would be out the window for me

I would wholeheartedly applaud this but we ALL know damn well Prince's attention span ain't long enough for a 2 year commitment. At this point, I'd settle for just a 3 month commitment of that, for the sole purpose of a one time only-- PROFESSIONALLY sponsored and produced 2 hour concert, any place of his choosing, that's also pay-per-view live streamed and made available for purchase as a download and/or DVD. That would be a satisfying ending for me, he could do whatever the hell he wants after that.

lol I know.
I mean, ok, maybe 1 year
I mean do some shows release some music for the longtime hardcore fans with the those groups and then be done(if he can) and leave us with that. I'd be happy and would never hope or wish again.

The day Prince reunites with the Revolution is the day he becomes a certified musical fossil.

I don't think the Revolution magic could be recreated so why go there?

it's not about "going back" or "recreating". it's about chemistry, about innovating. you've heard w&l scoring - its new and fresh. it's not about greatest hits. it's about new masterpieces.

As for being a certified musical fossil, he's already one. Surrounding himself with 20somethings and trying to musically blend in with the current crap that's out, ain't fooling nobody but himself and those that can't handle the truth.

Think of all the reunions of famous bands that have taken place, whether it's Kiss or Blondie or LedZep, you name 'em. Reunions are ALWAYS about nostalgia. There's nothing innovative about a few musicians in their 40s and 50s coming back together again. Even if they do make a new album it will always stand in the shadows of the old ones.

Compared to other acts of his stature, he has remained fresher than most. You can find reviews of the 3EG concerts that say that much. The Org won't acknowledge this good press because it is itself a living fossil full of nostalgic fussy bodies nitpicking everything like it was still 1989.

That's right Hatrina, you're a lovable nerdy dino.

but what's wrong with nostalgia? Bruce Springsteen still tours with the E. Street Band and his fans love it.Veteran artists can't really be "innovative" these days, anyway.Prince may think that he still is,but he isn't.
