Hands down, Planet Earth. Somewhere Here on Earth almost redeems it, but even his great vocal performance on that track can't save the whole trainwreck for me.

Agree. Planet Earth is just so boring... Even "bad" albums like Rave and NPS have at least 2-3 good tracks on them. Planet Earth is just horrible, the most boring Prince album he has ever made. He never should have released that album, apart being real boring, sales wise it's in his top 3 lowest selling albums amongst NEWS and Plectrum...

I described it as a trainwreck, and that's the wrong term. Trainwrecks make people stop and watch...they're so bad, you can't turn away. "Boring" is a far better description of this album. It has no voice, no soul...Planet Dull is more appropriate.

This was the first album I was truely dissapointed in... I mean as a Prince fan I was so dissapointed because like you said there is no soul to this album... It pains me when I hear people praise this album because as a Prince fan they should know better what material of his is genius, funky, soulfull and what material is just god awful bland... I never go by "opinion" of course personal opinion is there, everyone has their own taste, but I always try to listen to Prince's music from a "critical" point of view interms of Prince's standards.

The Rainbow Children literally made me cry notwithstanding it has a few fantastic tunes but is unfortunately filled with hate, ignorance and intolerance.

I agree! Okay, it didn't make me cry, but it turned me off Prince for years. I didn't buy a new Prince album again until 3121, which I liked a whole lot better. At least the old fashioned stripped down Prince funk was back. And I don't even think Rainbow Children has fantastic tunes. Sure, the musicianship is great, but I never find myself singing those songs to myself. 20Ten isn't a great album, but whenever I take a walk, I think about Walk In the Sand. That's what it's about. Do the songs stay with you, do you repeat them to yourself inside your head... RC just doesn't have that. Not to me, anyway.

I guess the least favourite album for me (except instrumental ones) must be Rave un2 the Joy Fantastic although sometimes i need to choose between this one and New power soul. As for the Planet Earth i wish i could record such album myself wink

Newpower Soul was my least favorite until...Don't shoot me for what I'm about to say:

I think the Black Album is my least favorite Prince album. It's too samey to me and the lyrics are the only good thing about the album because they are hilarious to quote. "I'll give u 7 sips of elderberry wine maybe we'll unlock the secrets of your mind." That is a crazy lyric!!!

This week I listened to my 5 least favorite Prince albums at the start of this week:

The Black Album

20Ten

Newpower Soul

Xpectation

Planet Earth

All four of those albums moved way up my list. Newpower Soul moved way up! To me it is way funkier and diverse than the Black Album, the funk Bible it ain't. More like the funk epistle...Don't kill me guys.

My least favourite is by far Emancipation. While there are quite a few outstanding tracks there are a few I absolutely hate, and I can't ever imagine myself listening to either of the three disks in full again. And for the same reason, Rave is my second least favourite.

Upon further review I now like LotusFlower not as much as I used to..the section where he goes jazz crazy for about 4 songs straight I can skip but despite that thats not the worse. The worst for me is the released Rave cd I heard the club version had better mixes than the one you can buy from the store but i've never heard it. The retail version seems so LIFELESS and DEAD now on most tracks.

Seems stale and no energy. There are a few that avoid this but not many.

Newpowersoul

Just a bunch of really wack jams with no real flow or theme. The One and Come On are great, but not worth listening through the rest of the dreck. This is my worst Prince album.... mad

.

For u purists who say its a NPG not Prince album - The Rainbow Children, lots of rubbish overlong jams that waffle on about JW's, how non JW's are bad and about being pleased to meet you Mrs Pearlman... confused

.

Exodus, NEWS, One nite alone are also pretty horrible

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I agree, both 2009 albums start and end great, but die in the middle, Lotusflow3r with the wack Jazzique numbers and MPLSOUND with its dirge like ballads in the middle.

.

People need to layoff 20Ten and Planet Earth, they are decent and even fairly good albums. They may not be very adventurous, but songs like Futuresoulsong and Guitar outstrip anything on NewPower Soul or the Rainbow children.

I say Planet Earth as well. Prince should have released Lotusflow3r right after 3121. Most of Lf3r was made up from leftover 3121 tracks right?

I like Planet Earth, except for Chelsea Rodgers and the two slow tracks, the rest I really like. For me, the bland and boring award sits nicely with Musicology, but like most albums it still has a couple of great tracks.

I suppose I have to consider the albums which I play the least, or not at all, so into that category go, 20Ten, New Power Soul, For You, Graffiti Bridge, The Black Album and *whispers* Parade!

But none of them fall to the level of one particular release, although I do love 2 of the tracks. That album is, The Slaughterhouse.

Obviously I'm dsicounting the instrumental albums, that goes without saying lol

RIP sad

Agreed. That's why I went with Planet Earth. Boring is definitely the right word for that one. NEWS is sort of boring but it can still function as background music for a dinner party or something. PE just has no life or spark to it anywhere.

I'd also go for Planet Earth. There's only 1 song I'd say was near top level Prince: Somewhere Here On Earth. The rest is really average and Resolution is probably my least favourite P song ever.

.

New Power Soul is close with a few stinkers but has 3 top tunes IMO: Come On, The One and Wasted Kisses.

Yes Somewhere Here On Earth is a good song, however I feel he's been there done that, so nothing breathtaking... When I heard Shhh or The One... Those songs were amazing.

I just lsitened to Planet Earth once again... It's just too painful... Really really a bad bland boring album... Just bad. Even MPLS is bad but it's not boring.

Planet Earth:

1. Planet Earth: Very errie weird song but just boring, guitar solo doesn't even fit in with the tempo of the song... One of his worst album openers ever.

2. Guitar: Energetic song... However the guitar playing on this track is nothing special, so ironiclly this doesn't bring any justice to a song about Prince's "guitar". Lyrics are corny, elementary, flat vocals... Supposed to bring energy to the album but does no justice, rather listen to Dance 4 Me on MPLS Sound.

3. Somwehere Here On Earth: It is a very nice song, nothing special, nothing to be praised, however it is the best song on the album... Don't know if that means much because the quality of the songs are just dismal... But this song is a nice song, but nothing as a Prince fan will ever come to the front of my mind when talking about nice ballad/smooth r&b type songs Prince has made. But nice song none the less.

4. The One U Wanna C: Nice instrumental melody you just want to dance to... Untill you hear the lyrics... Then you realize this sounds like a bad 1960's carnival fairground song... Again corny lyrics, "I ain't tryna be a hater, I'm the one u wanna c..." Need I say more?

5. Future Baby Mama: If this is the song Prince won a Grammy for in 2008 it shows you the lack of strong R&B songs out at that time. Again another nice song, boring, but nice... Nothing new nothing special. Doesn't do the album any justice just because it's a nice song... This song feels like it's for those old house wife Prince fans in their late 40's or 50's.

6. Mr. Goodnight: Another boring song, just boring, can't even break this song down, especially those slow talking raps, just boring.

7. All the Midnights In The World: This sounds like a Bob Dylan song gone wrong... Boooooring!!

8. Chelsea Rodgers: It's supposed to be the FUNKY track on this album, but jsut does nothing for me... I take The Gold Standard over this track anyday. Nice groove, stupid lyrics, not a bad song, but just a song to dance to, you hear the track dance to it then continue on... Not a song worth replaying or remembering.

9. Lion of Judah: This sounds like an outtake of LotusFlow3r that couldn't make it on that album because it sounds the same... Good guitar solos at the end, however it's just another bland song.

10. Resolution: Again just a boring song...

The whole album is BORING... It's torture to play this album from start to finish as a Prince fan... Even BAD albums have some GREAT tracks, this album has none. BORING... I guess the people who like this album are a little up their in age. lol
