17 Days is as close to a perfect pop song as you can get.

Erotic City is quintessential Prince and funky as...

It's between those two for me.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

No debate at all.
Since not everybody agrees.
Erotic city is probably Prince's most popular b-side.
As for best b-side?
That's just opinion.
I love Erotic city, but I also love La la la Hee hee hee.
Pointless question.
How do you measure best?
Simply by most popular?

It's clear Prince's favorite is "She's Always In My Hair". So that adds some gravitas to it. ------ Egad, when you sit down and listen to them all in a row - with 17 days, Erotic City, and She's Always in My Hair... any artist would KILL to have those as their top singles, let alone b-sides. Amazing.

The thing about "Erotic City" and "17 Days" is....

These two songs are as strong and powerful as the material that made it onto the Purple Rain album. These songs don't feel like musical "leftovers".

Up until 1990, there is not a single "musical leftover" in my opinion.

Prince's output was simply too generous for the way record companies and the whole music industry operates.

The B-sides are an essential part of what makes Prince a cult artist.
I don't think you can deem masterpieces such as "Hello", "Irresistible Bitch", "Feel U Up" and all the others
as "musical leftovers".

And pardon me Sir, but honestly, "17 Days" is the weakest of them all.
It's just the fucking same loop for 4 minutes, the riffs and gimmicks are fun,
but compared to "God" and "Another Lonely Christmas", I get bored pretty fast.

I have fond memories of the time "17 Days" was on heavy rotation on my headphones,
but it's an adolescent song, made for adolescents. It simply does not stand the test of time IMO.

Erotic City and She's Always in My Hair are probably my favourite b-sides. Two of his very best songs.

Never understood the love for 17 Days.

It took me a while to get into this song, but now I love it. I even love the DJ Amanda remix (except when she keeps moaning as if she's getting fucked -- not sexy)

I'd disagree that 17 Days is his best. I love the song, but I hardly listen to it anymore.. even though it has that classic synth-line-80s musical arrangement, the lyrics are kind of depressing and the song goes on in a monotone way. 'Rain come down,' 'rain come down,' 'rain come down down' I wanna go to sleep lol

The other great ones are Always in My Hair, Hello, Girl, Alexa de Paris, Feel U Up, I Love U in Me (this one is too sexy), and Scarlet Pussy. Never liked HCUDCMA?, Horny Toad is straight filler, and God (vocal) is OK (but the instrumental is beautiful). I think Prince loaded the weirdest songs of the crop as his B-Sides, personally.

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2
