#1 Everybody Loves Me

Dishonorable Mentions:· I Rock, Therefore I Am· Wedding Feast - barely a song, and embarrassing when it is.· Orgasm - though I know that it's not really a song.

Interesting. My opinions? You have a decent list. Any list without Pope scares me, but I know tastes differ. As a Catholic, I should have been even more disgusted, but unlike Prince, I try to leave religion out of music.

I like the fact that you had some great points, and put them out there, so I'll give your choices a go.

The Latest Fashion-You had a pretty good point there. "Summertime" is far superior. There are some decent sounds in TLF, so it can't rate among the worst for me. The harder than a heart attack rap is about as bad as Tony M rapping about Manure though. Good choice based on another example of Prince butchering a good song to make it worse. The re-recorded Old Friends 4 Sale is still a good song, but the difference in quality between the two versions is so staggering that it almost deserves a spot here...lol.

Animal Kingdom-not on my list, but it is a song that drives me crazy. Since I like some of it, I can't put it on the list...but the Funky Funky Blue Cheese line and HORRIBLE opening vocal is worthy of a shit song.

Right The Wrong-Well, I like a lot of it, but it should have been on a deep outtake collection. It sounds like Delirious had a mutt child.

Jughead- The Mr Money Minder speech was like an epiphany to me regarding Tony M. I hated him after hearing this track for the first time. Easily one of Prince's worst moments. How he let that Star Trek Next Generation wearing Manure rapping loser in his band, I don't know. Maybe the only actual evidence Prince has experience with hard drugs, or has severe mental issues that block his ability to judge art. There's a reason Jughead was released and Moonbeam Levels wasn't. Prince really has no clue what the difference is between a great song and a horrible one. He did before 1990, but everything went weird very soon.

Everybody Loves Me- A fun track, would have been on that deep outtake album if I was in charge. I like some of the sounds. The super corny loop de loop whoop de whoop whatever lyrics do make me cringe Wedding Feast style...but I call the song a guilty pleasure when I'm questioning my own sanity.

I Rock, Therefore I Am- Like most P songs that have rap, this is a Grade A stinker. My best Prince friend and I both saw the tracklist, and this was the song we both wanted to hear so bad. What a letdown!!!! And the fact it was on a mostly Rock album...and DID NOT ROCK!!! Horrors!!!

Wedding Feast-Horrible to the exponential power that science has not identified. My words can't do this dumpster fire justice...

Orgasm -Well, since the Ronnie Talk 2 Russia/Let's Work segue is in there, it's not all bad. The moaning/talking whatever that is...is pretty bad. In fact, I've only listened to it five times or less in my entire life. I try not to waste too much time listening to garbage. I'll play the Controversy album if I want to hear the best parts of Orgasm.

I'm not sure if these are my bottom five because that could take hours. But these songs suck a nut:

1: Style. Fuck everything about this song. I was on hold for hours with 1-800-NEW-FUNK trying to track down my Crystal Ball pre-order. They played Style on loop. That song is hell.

2: Future Baby Mama. Prince finds the lowest common denominator and says fuck that, I can go even lower.

3: Extraloveable (2011). That rap about Care Bears and Elmo. What the fuck?

4: Everyday is a Winding Road. First off, it's "Every Day" not "Everyday." Grrrr. The song blows. And then Larry asks if we love God. There is no God, Larry. Because if there was a God, he wouldn't have let this song happen.

5: Grafitti Bridge. It's so corny. Beyond corny.

I would argue with you for hours on this one, but instead I'll joke with you for a few seconds:

Pope craps all over your five choices. Jughead has Tony M's historic Mr Money Minder Speech...

Wedding Feast is more of a segue, but the singing in it qualifies it for one of the worst ever.

Can't argue with you on G Bridge. It made my list. There's some good stuff in there, but it is about as corny as it can get. Awful.

Style is pretty horrible, but just not bad enough to make my list. I'd probably think about Da Da Da or We Gets Up if I had to put something from Emancipation.

Extraloveable? I hate the version with Andy...but I really like the version without the rap. Sure, the 1982 version is far better, but the New version without the useless rap is pretty good. Would have fit nice on his new albums if Prince was nice enough to make both discs 78 minutes for value's sake.

Winding Road? Pretty Bad remake. Not bad enough for my list, though. I have only heard it maybe 10 times in my life...

So your list is ok...lol.

I'm glad some of the guys doing the podcast put more controversial songs on their lists. It was just more entertaining to listen to the whole thing. It would have been easy to just put some tracks from his Internet-only releases on the lists and nobody would have gotten pissed off.

Had I been on a podcast like this I could have seen myself putting stuff like "Gold", "Batdance", "New Power Generation" or "Under The Cherry Moon" on mine just for the hell of it. lol

Yeah - very enjoyable podcast, but some strange choices. "Tambourine"?!..."Tick Tick Bang"?!!

.

Oh well. My 5 off the top of my head are...

.

1. "The Latest Fashion" - so weak and limp-wristed - HATE IT!!

2. "Da Da Da"

3. "Mr Happy"

4. "Act of God"

5. "Big White Mansion"

.

Honourable mentions - "Sleep Around", "Incense & candles", "Lemon Crush", "Money don't matter tonight", "The Morning papers", "Lion of Judah", "Resolution"...

.

Oh, by the way, what's the song that ends the podcast? Is it a Prince outtake?

[Edited 1/15/15 10:00am]

I assume you dislike Act of God because of the lyrics, because there's no other reason for a Prince fan to dislike such a funky little gem. Still, bottom five?!

I guess from one point of view, it can spark debate, or conversation. If you take such things seriously, there has to be some Tony M action, and Pope is really a song Prince should have called Poop. He almost had it right. And as overproduced as Gold is, you know most fans love it. The version without all the overproduced Glossy keyboards is pretty good. I can't remember if that corny garbage about being an official member of the NPG is on that one, but if it was, I edited out.

Gett Off or Jack U Off aren't anywhere near close to being in the bottom 5, unless you think Everybody Loves Me, Purple and Gold, Orgasm, When U Love Somebody, etc. are better.

New Position and Black Sweat are practically the same song. I'm surprised you dislike the latter so much.

I don't like BS but like NP, don't really hear them as the same song myself. I don't hate BS though.

As for bottom 5, like any list of songs, it's hard to nail down exactly 5.

Purple & Gold
Jughead
Sea Of Everything

Silicon

Golden Parachute
Van Gogh
Cloreen Bacon Skin
Undisputed

Man In A Uniform

There are probably some so bland that I don't even remember them.

Can't touch this. The silliness is intentional, and when considered, makes them great songs.

Like Dead On It, which is a masterpiece.

No Child's a failure

Do other top artists have songs as bad as he does? I hear that Bob Dylan, P-Funk/George Clinton, and the Rolling Stones have some shitty albums, but I don't listen to their whole discography like I do with Prince.

Well, here are my picks for bottom 5:

1. Jughead - the original stinker is still the worst in my book

2. Purple & Gold - thank god this isn't available on any album, even a compilation. The harder it is to get, the better for everyone.

3. The Rainbow Children - hands down the most offensive lyrics he's ever put out ... and on top of some really good music, what a tragedy. There are so many offensive lyrics on that album it's just scary. And I'm not against religion in popular music.

4. Graffiti Bridge - ok, this came out before Jughead, but since it's at the end of the album, I simply turn the CD off, so I never have to deal with it. Plus, it just sounds like a lame soundtrack song and not so much a Prince album track.

5. (There'll Never Be) Another Like Me - pitiful boasting

There are some other clunkers, but I never listened to them enough to really remember if they're worse than the above. Push It Up, Why Should I Do ..., and Everybody Loves Me are in that category.

Jughead...you were dead on it!

P&G...Kook Co Musiqo privately hates it. Damn Typo..Kool Co Musiqo. He'll probably call me a racist again smile

TRC? Sure the Darth Vader voice is annoying, and the religous talk sounds a little silly in context of the great music...but it was his beliefs, and hardly drags the song down to me. He could be singing about doing an oil change, but if the vocal arrangement is nice, and the music is great...no big problem. It's not like it's Rick Ross preaching at you to sell drugs and ruin lives.

GBridge? Awful...even some good music thrown in there can't save this mess.

Another Like Me? Not all that bad. The Auto Tune is cringe worthy enough to bring the song down several notches, but it's more like bottom 80 then bottom five for me.

  1. Purple and Gold
  2. We Gets Up (this song honestly makes me want to kill people)
  3. Ah hell, you could probably just throw darts at the Emancipation tracklist to fill out the last three.
