Sounds good. Let him outsource the camera work to professionals. He'd probably make the high-school photographer of a passing photo he thought he liked, the cinematographer or director of photography...and the whole thing would look 'surprisingly' amaturish.

It'd be great if he did an HBO special as long as all he did was handle the stage show and not force the whole thing as 'in-house'. Plan and rock your stageshow and let trained profesionals handle the cameras, audio syncing, appropriate audio levels for a live show to living room t.v. feed change. Do what u do best and let them do what they do best.

But he can't. He just can't do that. So, it would end up needlessly looking amateurish.

This would be a bad idea, because knowing Prince he won't play any of his hits, instead will just play jazz and some covers of old R&B songs, just to enrage his fanbase (which he obviously loves to do).

Not a fan of those things. Too much cutting away from the performance to show backstage stuff. I'd rather just watch a great performance in full.

A lot of people here mistakenly believe he's as relevant now as he was then. No one would watch.

If anything, he should consider an honest & accurate documentary, like The History of The Eagles or the one recently done about Genesis, both of which aired on Showtime. However, honesty & accuracy have never been his strongpoints. It'd also require collaboration with bandmates & associates from throughout his career & how many bridges has he burned?

Doing an HBO concert would be awesome idea. I think he could definitely put on a show with millions watching. Remember the Lovesexy, Musicology Tour or the Welcome to America tour? And yes best leave it to the professionals to film. And he could very easily tie this in to the release of deluxe PR reissue. It would be a great idea! Count me in.

Didn't Prince say at some point this year ABC asks him to do a concert with Eric Clapton every year and he always says no because he wouldn't own the footage? (if true would be a killer opportunity for Prince to introduce himself as a musician to people who to this day don't fully believe he's such an excellent guitar player - as ever Prince's greed gets in the way).

No broadcaster is going to give Prince half a million dollars to stage a one off concert and then also hand over the rights to the footage so that they're left with nothing. Thats fucking insane. Like Andy Allo saying "I want to do a concert with Prince, he's got an audience so we'll promote it with them, we'll use his equipment at Paisley... I want £100,000 and I want to own the footage"

For this to happen Prince would have to stage the concert and pay for everything. Meaning everything would be done on the cheap ala Rave un2 the Year 2000... I remember he splashed out on a rug... and had the time swinging in on a rope... no expense spared. Then he would have to shop it around the TV stations. The production values would be low as would the viewers.

Prince has no strong management let alone a management team. He said something this year along the lines of "How do I get on Jools Holland?" - if he's not capable of making that phone call I wouldnt hold out much hope.

He won't do these type of things....as much as he insists that numbers don't matter to him, they do.

Viewers would be calculated, and they would be FEW.

It's the same reason he doesn't properly promote his CD....if he did, it would appear that he is getting dismal sales even after putting in the work, something he is not ready to admit. He would rather put out CD's, give no promotion, and use that as an excuse for the dismal sales.

He really is in a catch 22 situation.

Being an irrelevant legend is a bitch!

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Isn't his super bowl performance the most watched super bowl performance of all time? And didn't the Prince appearance on" New girl"get a lot of viewers? I'm sure a lot of people would watch a Prince HBO Special

BOTH of you can't be this naive. The Superbowl is what drew those viewers, not Prince. New Girl was on just after the SB.

HBO wanted to broadcast Musicology tour, but Prince past on HBO for the movie theater broadcast instead. I believe that HBO wouldn't commit to a promotion budget befitting a Prince concert.
