He's a jack of all trades and exceptional at some, master in a couple. But he's not God.

I'd hate it if the only music available was by Prince. I think after a few months I'd shove boiled carrots in my ears.

prince will never be a respected rapper like say BIG .. just because prince tries to rap does not mean he can rap .. just because prince tries to play rock does not mean he is good at it .. dreamer will never touch voodoo chile or even p's own good songs .. yes hendrix will never to a housequake but prince will never record something as good as voodoo chile .. prince cant play jazz .. his rnb is repetative and boring .. his "jamming" is often awful (just listen to the undertaker) .. saying prince is better because he is more well rounded than other musicians is a garbage comparison ... prince fails at most genres he attempts .. he cant even record his own hits properly .. eg ... NC2U ... he is a good songwriter at times and when surrounded by the right musicians makes great music .. he is not better than tons and tons of other musicians .. and he certainly cant write the style they are all great at .. he tries but its just not very good or worthy of note .. as confirmed by the rest of the world

LoL.....with all due respect, i've seen your clips on Youtube, your guitar strumming consists of stuff I learned in highschool guitar class and you seem unable or unwilling to keep your voice in tune. I don't believe you have the requiste bona fides to criticize anyone who actually makes a living as musician or a singer, let alone Prince.

Keep practicing though.....

that was from 20 years ago .. here is me destroying Cookie Jar/erotic city better than 3eg could ever dream .. https://trevorayer.bandca...government .. this is a recent rehearsal tape i overdubbed a little .. mostly live .. overdubs in one pass .. bite me

Either your dealer or your pharmacist need to cut your supply by half. It's nice you believe in yourself, but watch out for grandiosity and megalomania.

Umm, okay you have a unique take on it but for me it's not something I'd want to pay for or go see. But that's the great thing about music and art, there is so much room for expression and appreciation.

A true musician, and an all round nice guy.

Which means, he's one up on Prince already. wink

Yeah...i heard some stuff by him recently and send some interviews and over the years my view of him has drastically changed. I used to just think he was riding his nirvana fame for some kicks but the truth was the exact opposite. I think his route of unconventional musical education and techniques borne of that add to his appeal. Very much like prince, he can accept imperfect if the performance is intriguing nontheless. As long as the guts there, it good. Also very much like prince, he stresses hard work, dedication, and the love of your work and what you do will bring you success...maybe not sales...but success.

cool

.

Dave Grohl and the Foos really filled the void during the late 90's till now.

Their previous album Wasting Light is something that ALL ageing artists should inspire to.

.

After a few lack luster releases, they showed everyone that they could release a great album, by just embracing the old with the new.

Something Prince has tried but failed in.

Prince's showmanship is unparalled. Musically, he hasn't been relevant or interesting since

1987, like Rusty said on the first page of this thread.

If there is anybody better than Prince in pop music, it's gotta be Paul McCartney. He's just as

gifted a musician that Prince is. And if you think about it, Prince's influence (which is under-

whelming) is nowhere near the amount of influence that McCartney has had in music and our

culture.

Prince is the most disappointing musician; since Sign 'O' The Times, he's released utter

bullshit. And this from the most interesting and perfect pop musician since Macca.

No. Prince is the Man that can't be paralleled or out done. Today I'm so grateful to be living at the same time as Prince. guitar

Even in some of his straightest talking music, it's taken me years to catch a glimpse of how profound Prince's mind and imagination really is. He has made so many diverse creations, the music he's given us will take me years to decipher music No one ever compares to Prince heart He's magic and definitely enhances his extraordinary attributes of love, light and sound yes headbang

Paul McCartney & Neil Finn are better than Prince.

I would rather have their discographies. Their legacys are about beautiful music and good lyrics

And their songs lyrics aren't ever about bragging, anger, record companies or judgemental like Princes have become more & more.

That's false.Michael wrote most of his biggest hits ("Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough","Beat It","Billie Jean").The latter,in fact, became his signature song.

I dont understand why so many people dismiss MJ because he didn't "play an instrument" , although that is true, he was a composer, he heard music in his mind and vocally recorded what sounds/rhythms he wanted the music to have.

& most of his biggest hits were actually written by him. "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough", "Wanna Be Startin Something" , "Beat It" , "Billie Jean" , "Bad" , "The Way You Make Me Feel", "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" , "Dirty Diana" , "Smooth Criminal" , "Black or White" etc..

U answered your own question.

But why? That doesn't (and shouldn't) take anything away from MJ yet people on here use that as a major reason why Prince is better. That's crap and an unfair comparison to use. If playing a physical instrument makes someone a better artist then by that logic, Tito is a better artist than MJ.

I very much like the fact that Prince is multi-instrumental. I feel it puts him in touch with his music in a closer more cerebral way. Writing, feeling, playing, humming, rhymeing, talking it out, then singing it, shouting it, releasing energy and emotion. The instrument becoming the extension of the man.

MJ ALWAYS showed love towards his fans! Something Prince fails miserbly at, time and time again.

MJ ALWAYS put out music he knew his fans would love. Something Prince (due to his arrogance, and lost his creativity post 90's) fails time and time again. That's why it sound silly when anyone claim Prince is better than Michael Jackson. Prince is clearly outclassed, in every way, except on how many instruments he learned to play. Which is a silly argument, because a instrument is used to make music! Michael Jackson clearly dominates Prince in terms of music. That's NOT opinion, that's fact.

Yep. MJ payed attention to his fans and what they wanted when he made music. Prince cares only about himself and what he wants.

and It's hard to relate to a lot of songs he writes since they are only comprehensible to him.

With MJ we understand where he was coming from with the songs he wrote and as a result people relate more.

At this point I feel Prince only writes songs for himself to keep him from going crazy. People ain't got time to figure out and decode his lyrics though.

And Prince's ability to play everything and do everything on his own became disadvantage for him.

It made his ego bigger and didn't allow him to get creative input from others which diminished the quality of his work.

Being able to collaborate and be open to criticism is something Prince lacks.

It's kind of true though. Ultimately MJ is more beloved than Prince. There's a reason he appealed to more people. Just maybe it was the quality of the music an the attention to detail, he knew the business AND the business still wants to know him. I spun Xscape just yesterday and where was Art Official Age? oooh only about a month ago. Filed under another disappointing Prince album. Zombie Mike wins 2014.

compare with a best of unreleased prince 1980-2014 and see who wins. Well actually of course MJ fans tend to fall under the syncophantic lunatic category so MJ will always win with them but assuming you're capable of looking at things critically, see who wins. Oh and I do agree MJ will always be more beloved than prince, just one of the many reasons I prefer Prince.
