Well Prince is now unafraid to get directly inspired by the pop stars of today, and the greatest producers of the last decade. It's obvious that Josh must be a fan of Timbaland, and I can hear that he isn't exactly trying to avoid the gagaish and perryish twists either. It still sound very much Prince, and probably even more than he has been in quite a long time. Him being unafraid to miswen sounds actually makes him grow a lot more, and his vocals are completely new in his own world, and different from other modern acts even though he is learning from younger musicians.

I don't know, I bet that Tom Petty guy from the 1960's could shred on Lovesex!

I have to confess that for the life of me I will never understand how people ever get any enjoyment out of anything if they can't let go of endless comparisons? Is it just for the sake of conversation?

AOA is Prince's 21st century AOA as far as I'm concerned. Some amount of comparison is inevitable I guess, and that's all well and good... but at what point can an album stand on it's own merits?

And I don't worship at the altar of Lovesexy either....it's one of my least favorites.

I'm a longtime fan, I've got feelings about records. And I've got this theory that at this point in his life, Prince is sort of patterning when he gets artistically ambitious, and not necessarily about any other element than structure and the emotions he's trying to elicit with his music.

It would not cross my mind to say AOA is as great as Lovesexy. Those who believe that need to wait for a bit of time to pass. I did say that for Prince, AOA was more experimental, may have overstated that, but still feel AOA is a greater departure for him (no matter the end resultsw).

Yet I can't help but have this impression that Prince somehow crossed Lovesexy and 1999 and divided it by the 21st Century Sound, the Art Official Sound.

Lovesexy for the rebirth and elegiac tone, the heartfelt regret mixed with vague spirituality and some odes to earthly pleasures. What was lovesexy anyway?

1999 because of the electronic, studio wizard feel.

21st Century Sound because Prince needed an update to his studio sound, and his appreciation of current musical trends.

Or I'm just a bit weird or something. No one here can take issue, because you're all weird for sticking around anyway. wink

Thanks for elaborating, it was a serious question....I wasn't trying to clown you.

Like I said, I realize that some comparisons are inevitable but I guess my approach differs a bit. There's no right or wrong way.

No issue, just me being a weirdo, thinking out loud. lol

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I always listen to his in terms of what I can hear of his spiritual development that he shares through his music and yes, I think there is some similarity, totally different subjects and doesn't sound musically similar to my ears at all...but...it's the energy and affect it has. Mind you TRC impacted heavy on me in this regard.

He always seems to be finding the right way to tell us some of his discoveries and trying to find how he can impart them, which might not be a bad assumption seeing as he loves God and spirituality so much.
