Prince blew it with the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain

How come the remaster didn't come out
Exactly on the 30th anniversary?
I just feel it was a wasted opportunity
to cease the moment. It's his best album ever.
It's going to november in a few weeks.
I guess i just want it in my hands already.
hopefully with some cool extras

For 2 generations, he's done what he wants, when he wants, how he wants. I understand your frustration, but if it ever comes, we'll enjoy it all the same.

Maybe he wants to release it to coincide with the anniversary of the Purple Rain tour? lol what was the first date of that tour? I think it was in November.

Whoever said that a reissue has to come out on the exact same date as the original? How many people even remember that?

Commercially, Purple Rain is ideally re-released in the time for the christmas season, no one but the hardcore fnas (who are going to buy it any date) actually cares.

As to what can be expected, like everyone I want a 10 disc set with all the outakes and two or three live shows + the Time, Appolonia 6 Sheila E BUT Prince being Prince, you probably won't get that until you start like his new stuff.

Why is it always seem to be "Prince blew it" when he doesnt do what a fan wants him to do?

Exactly. I challenge the OP to find ANY reissues that have been released on the same date. It just doesn't work that way.

Further: Prince does not choose his release dates, the label does. Obviously something like this is going to be save for the fourth quarter.

The hardcore will buy remasters anyway.

So the re-release intention will always be to drag in the wider casual buyer and youth that want to buy 'legendary' material. They don't give a toss about actual dates. As long as it released is in the anniversary year, it gives the record company an excuse for the promotion.

It just marketing. Look at the MacDonalds Ads or Disney DVD's. Its all 'To celebrate the.....' or 'own a piece of history'.

I bet it will be released on Tuesday November 25....a few days before Black Friday.

If Warners are smart, they will plan some kind of store tie-in deal with Target,Best Buy or Wal-Mart,since those stores are gonna be PACKED with Black Friday shoppers.

Obviously the only time of year that makes sense is Christmas because of another lonely Christmas. And debinantly if he don't lease it up by the holy days it gone sho nuf be a lonely Christmas up in here

Not sure about this, but Prince's Grammy eligibility for Purple Rain ended around 354 or so months ago. I'm terrible at math, but it's far more than 300 months.

I think the OP has a point. The anniversary got a considerable amount of press in the music magazines and websites. It put purple rain briefly back on the front pages and to maximise sales would have been to strike while that iron was hot. There was decent coverage for the announcement too. They aren't going to give it that coverage twice in the same year. Casual fans and interested readers might have bought it then but now it's more likely to be for the so-called hardcore fans. The mags have done enought Prince this year. If the extra content is enough to garner glowing reviews, it might do well.
But I guess for Prince, selling more copies of purple rain, remastered or not, is not a priority.

Let's see what gets released exactly before drawing conclusions. It's been announced for months that the release was planned for late November/early December. How can a project be blown before it's even out there?

Rumor has it that MJ recorded his own version of the entire Purple Rain album in 1985, and the Estate is rush-releasing it in time for the holiday season!

Purple Rain, Purple Rain - heehee!

It will sell more for the Christmas season than any other time, who knows they may have digitally remastered the Movie too for a Blu-ray release to capitalise which could be another element of hold up.

It's their money maker IMO so it wont be rushed.
