Yeah.. it always pays to write and produce your own stuff, otherwise you're always just working for a wage. Its like that for whoever they'd work/play for.

Really? Prince got $3 million for his buddy TC without him having 2 do any work.

Actually penniless is a misnomer. She actually OWED Prince a million dollars. Penniless would have been a far better situation actually.

yeah,I am wondering the same thing.I know that,throughout 1988,Prince was producing a fourth album for her.She left before the album was completed.Knowing how record companies operate,could it be that Paisley Park/Warners gave Sheila an advance for an album that she didn't complete and deliver?

In her book,Sheila mentions that,while on the Lovesexy Tour,her grandmother passed away and she asked Prince for a day off so she could attend the funeral.He told her no.She was so pissed that she didn't accept any paychecks for doing the remainder of the tour

I get that she was angry,but why work for free?!

Sheila E is so sweet and so talented.

Imo Prince should pay her well.

very good point Sheila was engaged to Prince during that time,too.Mixing business with pleasure isn't always a wise idea.

It is quite sad though that all these Stories coming out of her book are based around Prince so shes currrently using his name to make money, Which I image wont fly too well with him.

If you're a drummer in a band you can't just have a day-off while on tour because there is no one else that can play your parts during shows, or even during rehearsals.

I suppose as Prince himself doesn't usually attend funerals he didn't feel that Sheila needed to attend one either.

Very very good point. And tear up checks? That's crazy. You can be mad but don't be stupid. Prince will never comment so all we get is one sided stories. She had a choice though. I could love my job but if my grandmother passes I'm out!

Because she was under contract and walking out of a tour like that would have had serious legal ramifications.

Sheila said in an interview that she went out and spent a whole lotta money because she thought everything would be payed for or was somehow free. She realized she owed a million and contacted P. He payed for everything.

She doesn't say that in her book. She says, "I spent years paying back what I owed."

This is Sheila's memoir. Her memories of some instances in her life. There are actually only a few chapters about her work with Prince. Honestly, she speaks glowingly of him for the most part. Prince did a couple of things that weren't right and she talks about how she felt. Just because Prince is involved in someone's life, doesn't mean they can't recollect on experiences they shared.

I kinda agree with this. One of the things I respected about Sheila is I never heard her talk about Prince all these years. However, it is her life experience as well.

Damn..thats some sad stuff. Kinda of ironic that when you look up her book on Amazon, one of the suggestions is "Prince: Slave Trade" . Hypocrate.

Will buy the book for all the great moments she created in my life. Thanks Shiela.
