BIG CITY - & the ones that got away.

Disappointed not to see Big City on the track list of either album.

Loved the live version and was really looking forward to the studio version after that NPG tease.

**CLANG** The Vault door closes on another great song.

What other songs do we know of LIVE but have never got a studio release?

U Want Me
If I Had A Harem
Prince & The Band
Telemarketer Blues

Any more???

It might be wishful thinking but wouldn't it be nice if the return to Warners also brought the return of B-Sides with digital single releases? And extended versions?

The ones that get me upset that he featured were
BIG CITY
and last but not least and I wish it was a live recording not the studio excerpt we heard
2YOUNG TO DARE!!! Damn that song live was sweet!

They should compile a bootleg of these kind of tracks!

Isn't shadows & Chains a cover of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I never really have the inclination to track them down individually in the dark corners of internet, so there's a lot of these I haven't heard. I do seem to remember there was a release that contained lots of tracks that had been played live but didn't have studio versions, but I don't know what it was called.

frankly, that studio snippet we hear didn't excite me much. it was drowning in a horn section wandering around the chart with no direction.

I agree! BIG CITY and U WILL BE WITH ME are both strong songs that deserve a record far more than crap like pretzel and breakfast. I wouldn't even mind EXTRALOVEABLE the new version or IN A LARGE ROOM. Telemarketer blues is fun live but don't mind if it stays that way. The other songs do nothing for me but yeah, a couple good ideas got away from prince here.

I agree I love U WILL BE and BIG CITY. Andy Allo said that U Will B was never recorded so they only have the demo so that's probably why it's not on the record. She said they tried to record it but it didn't have the same flavor.

That would be cool getting official releases of the songs listed so far, also thought Chapter & Verse would become a full song.

I would think he definitely has a recent horns heavy album stacked away.

Yup. Big City, Extraloveable, Ain't gonna miss U, Groovy Potential, Boyfriend, Chades of Umber, Fallinginlove. This was the album I was hoping for, actually.

The wooh is on the one!

Turn Me Loose...even though it's yet another in his tired "James Brown soundalike song" category. It's a little better than Feel Good, Wonderful, etc from LF. It stinks that the only version we have is that recording from LA radio where the DJ talks over the last several seconds of the song.

I may be sick of his insistence on these kind of songs, but I really like Loose a lot. I think it is far better than Musicology, We Gets Up, and a little better than The Work Pt 1 and the afforementioned Feel Good.

My thoughts also. I think Groovy Potential may have been an outtake from this NPG album. An earlier version of Fallinlove2nite prior to Joshua's production may have been part of it as well, along with a few other tracks he played live with the NPG (such as Shades of Umber) at Montreaux and a few other dates.

No, it's from 2010, long before 3rdEyeGirl. The MP3 was ripped from The Current's site.

Da Bourgeoisie is another recent one with horns. I think many of these tracks were recorded with the hornheadz rather than the npg horns.

Actually DaBourgeoisie is the only one of the recent tracks with horns that WAS recorded with the NPG Horns. The rest is Honheads all over smile

Well, the Purplessence twitter account is trailing the possibility of another suprise in October once AOA and PLECTRUMELECTRUM have been released so perhaps it's this NPG album? Or possibly, the Purple Rain remaster.

Whatever the Purplessence account looks to be official.
