There is almost NO push in the USA at all on either record, which is understandable cause these albums will sell to loyals and be done, maybe a tour, next year would be best this year is over, but the marketing on this seems more aimed on riding off "Purple Rain" 30th anniversary and that being the PUSH not anything on these albums.

Another thing that is striking, is that WB has another big release the same week of Prince, a country star or something, that is likely to take the #1 spot ! Very strange, it would have been great in terms of publicity, if Prince was #1 and #2 the same week.

And that, is really a big marketing strategy mistake from a major.

You seem intent on believing WB has it all wrong and you know better. But perhaps it is Prince who has got it wrong. Afterall, there has been steady promotion for these albums. There have been press releases, articles in most of the major music mags and websites, they have their own web pages, are in iTunes and Amazon, there have been posters placed throughout the London underground, posters in shops and the new songs have made the radio. What else do you want?

What seems to be lacking is the appearance of Prince anywhere. No interviews, TV appearances, concerts or anything else. The man just doesnt seem to want to do any promotion himself. WB can only do so much. They really do need the artist to step up to the plate as well and put in the effort.

The news is out, people know about the albums. But unless Prince rides the wave that WB have provided and builds up some excitement by showcasing the music personally, the albums will just die quietly and both you and Prince will blame WB.

He was never going to be 1 and 2. I can't see PE selling anything like the same amount as AOA.

Prince surely has it wrong, everybody knows that. But it was the duty of WB to put Prince on the right line, contractually, to oblige him to do the work. It's obvious that is Prince who wanted to release these album the same day, before purple rain, and now he just don't give a fuck, from day one of the annoucement. Classic Prince. WB wasn't obliged to do that.

What else do I want ? Real promotion : a single, a video, tv performance, interview...the minimum. I agree that if Prince don't want to do any promotion it can't work (as it happens now). But, it's up to WB to make a single hit the airwaves.

The first week, both albums could have sold the same amount, or PE sufficiently enough to reach the #2 mark (100.000 ex was enough).

That's sure, now, with this "promotion" it won't be #2.

lol, I knew these album, in my crystal ball, would sound like shit !

But while I agree it's obvious both WB and Prince doesn't care of these albums, why release it ? What kind of game is that ? tHEIR PRIORITY SHOULD BE TO SELL the PR thing (sorry for the capital letters) before people be bored to death with prince and his unique capacity to fail every come back.

Im not sure how to take it, would need to hear it in full. But this one will also just slip under the radar as Prince applies zero effort into promoting it anywhere. I think Prince has given up...

I should have known better, I believed for months Prince will change when I heard about the WB deal. I thought he will do properly promotion, because from the reeditions there are tons of money to make.

Now, I'm really afraid of the content of the future reeditions. It sounds like WB wasn't able to make Prince sign a real contract.

So, there is at last ! a first single. Interestingly, WB dont think it was worth creating a new artwork for the single.

Why would they bother with this, knowing that all that effort isn't going to help anything. I bet they made it pretty clear to him: "You want us to release 3EG? You want both albums out ASAP? You do the work."

I've got another theory : prince told WB "you want to release the reedition of PR ? You want me to do huge promotion ? Then release these 2 crappy albums before ! The album cover has grown on me to be honest. It's awful, but it's memorable/strong awful. Which is good for marketing.

Speaking as someone who used to be pretty deap into the hippy dippy bullshit, the third eye concept made sense to me and has worked well from the time he started using it wit 3EG. The AOA cover continues to play on the same concept, which makes sense. To me the whole thing feels like the most centered and focused Prince has been with a marketing concept in a very long time. .... and lets not kid ourselves, when all is said and done, the man will not be remembered for his strong album covers.

No, that was the plan for his solo album. The 3EG record was not part of the original plan, it was never mentioned. That changed over the Summer, when he suddenly got interested in it again and renegociated the release of AOA to include 3EG/PE and to bring forward the release of both.

.

I woudln't be surprised the pre-order numbers are dismal and that this has caused Prince to lose interest.

Apart from twitter, iTunes and other social media it is really
very quiet...but in the next days there should be some anouncements...
I don't think the presale numbers are bad...
Usually for older artists the digital numbers are a bit lower as the people
buy cds...
We all know P is not gonna sell millions of copies but the fan
Base knows about the albums...
And... Listen bart:)...apart from some or many people here, it seems
People like the new songs...
I can't find a reason why Prince should not make some Promo for
the albums...

jesus bart...cut him a break...the albums will sell to his fanbase regardless..probably close to a million copies worldwide..we know that his appeal doesnt go beyond that nowadays but most artists would kill for those kind of album sales...

PE was part of the deal from the beginning, the album was first announced more than a year ago I think, and the album's got attention from the media since at least february.

EPIC didn't want to release PE, that' s for sure. They just wanted Prince solo.

The problem is that we shouldn't be supposed to know anything about the amount of copies that will be sold...It's supposed to be up to Prince and WB to sell the albums.

One of this album could be a million seller in the US (just like the Lionel Richie album released two years ago) if the promotion was held properly.

That means to not release the albumS the same fucking day, to have a GOOD music video, tv performances, and a huge US tour with the name of the album, not a "welcome to america thing".

And to not bashing fans, executives, and above all his own material in front of the media. I remember in an interview for the release of 20 TEN, he said he considered it as "old material" (hell, it was not even released yet !)and that his attention "was already focused on something else".eek What a good way to sell himself.

My intuition tells me that not only Prince will not even appear in his next music video, à la BCW, and when he does a tv performance, he will perform songs that are not even on the albumS. LOL, Classic Prince.

This is a discussion taking place in our forum...the majority of
Prince fans doesn't care about promo activities and so on...
So of course you are right in that we should get a real single, video
Tv apearances, tour of AOA... But first this is Prince and then
We don't know what will come the next weeks...we all know there
Will be a lot of reviews and press reports...
And in my opinion social media changed the way you promote a record
Quite a lot...and P is using social media a lot these days:)

But of course to this date we don't have a hit single but
Maybe P and warner are happy if his fan base is buying the albums...

Please find ANY mention of PE in WB-material before the announcement of the double release. There is none. There is only talk of ONE solo Prince album.
