Can we not derail this thread please.

Are we not discussing the AOA and Plectrum Electrum visual promotion throughout the world?

That surely includes the graphic design for both albums and how strong/weak it is being used for promotion and how much money Warner Brothers are putting behind promotion this time?

No need to be so Militant about it Militant!

biggrin

But I do think you should ban Kool from using that emoticon rolleyes, it's trolling (looking for trouble) pure and simple, everytime he starts it in a thread trouble ensues. rolleyes

Regarding promo's yeah the tube stations are really cool to see, haven't seen that since Planet Earth and the O2 gigs. it really is hitting a huge number of people. I would love this to be a hit.

Note how he left the UK just before the series started earlier this year, and returned just after it had finished. "Coincidence"?

Prince added fuel to the rumours by bringing Jools Holland up in the Mojo interview. It would be a great chance for him to showcase his playing as well as promote the new albums, but probably wont happen

Errr... yes. He may not be at home with the Later format but I don't think he'd be frightened out of the country by it.

I cant see Prince standing around with his band waiting for his slots whilst other acts perform. Would be great to see him perform with Jools on the piano for some funky/blues number though.

No performance on tv to perform the single that doesn't exist

Ugly cover, all but attractive

No word from Prince

the worst campaign album by a house record ever made.

That's why you're still not excited

Me too. Of the 10 songs I've heard from both albums I only rate 1 of them - Clouds. No way do I see either album being a masterpiece worthy of a 4 year wait. Sad but true so far. I really hope I'll be eating those words come October though. Anyway, this threads about promo.

Usually,a promotion campaign for such a big release, begins roughly six weeks before. We are now two weeks before : there is nothing, except ugly posters, though nobody in the general audience never listen actually to the new music. The music video is not even shot yet.

Nothing is played on the radio.

I don't understand what's going on... Or rather, why nothing seems to be going on. It's Prince, so we are all used to it, but still, it's hard to understand. Well, I suppose we might get a video in a few months, when the albums are all but dead, and a hissy fit complaining about record companies and so on. The usual stuff..

Where are these people who claimed weeks ago WB were doing a great marketing strategy to sell the Purple Rain deluxe by releasing the same day these two albums ?! lol

Are these people realizing now these shits will impact the sales of Purple rain negatively, and so the future reeditions, conditionned themselves by the sales of PR ?

At least we have a release date so it's better than the last year where we didn't know what was going on.

The thing is, WB have done their job. People are aware of a new Prince album coming out (a few people who know I am a Prince fan have told me, and that didn't happen with the last few). But it amounts to nothing if he disappears just before the launch. There might be performances booked on TV programmes, but usually if he is going to be on a show we know more than two weeks in advance. There might be a tour on the works, but unless it is another hit and run, when are the tickets going on sale? There might be interviews, but it seems he's sending the girls to do them, and again if he had done interviews with magazines we would know that by now. So there might be a huge promotional campaign jus about to explode, but I sor of doubt it. And it is a shame, because I am quite excited about the music. But it seems that, yet again, it is going to be a project which only a few fans will know about because Prince has to do things differently and then complain when they don't go well. What a shame.

No, they don't. Their job was to sell the Purple rain reedition, that's why they signed Prince again. It's unbelievable they didn't release it in june, or even in september. Instead, they're going to release two albums whose fate is to fail on charts. Media and General audience will laugh at this flop, and the release of the reedition will be stained by this failed come back.

This would have been huge if they released PR first, in due time.

hell, they gave Prince his masters back, they had the power to release things whenever they wanted. They had the power to tell Prince " we give back to you your masters...But you owe us the reeditions, and if you want to release two albums, we're gonna make sure you do music video BEFORE the release, tv performance, and a tour.

This, written in capital letters in the contract. What did they have to lose ?

Perhaps WB do not feel the new albums are strong enough and if they push them hard, people will buy them and think "bleh, not very good". Then when the PR reissue comes out, those same folk are going to say "bleh, more Prince? I think not".

Or...

WB said to Prince "ok, we'll release your new albums and we will even do a bit of PR and small scale marketing, but its up to you to promote them properly. We are saving our marketing budget for PR". This would mean the lack of much promotion is down to Prince.

Or...

This is just the way it is these days and labels are loath to promote an album extensively if they are not getting a chunk of the live tour that backs it up. And I doubt Prince has given WB a slice of his tour money. So with declining album sales, even for the mega sellers, a label can't recoup its investment on the back of album sales alone.

Or...

The albums are going to be pulled and thrown into the vault 3 days before release razz
