I want to make a compilation for some Prince virgin friends, they are mid-20s, only know songs like 1999 or lets go crazy. I wish to shock him with prince's rich styles, from official releases to bootleg tracks. Help me compile up this list, length does not matter

Any suggestions are welcome

smile

My choice includes

Elephant and flowers

Question of U

Morning Paper

Anna Stesia

Scarlet Pussy

DMSR

Computer Blue

Venus de Milo

She's Always in My Hair

17 Days

Something in the Water

Boys and Girls

Electric Chair

Melody Cool

Shocking compilation (it's important to stay away from regular funk, no matter how much you like it):

Bob George (this one is really the best for strangers to hear)

Had U

What Do U Want Me 2 Do?

Housequake (this one is really good for strangers to hear)

3121

Boom

The One U Wanna C (Like a pop country tune)

Days of Wild (studio version is the most shocking sound, the live ones are more standard funk)

Irrisistible Bitch

Avalanche

I love U but Don't I Trust U

Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance (this one is really good for strangers to hear)

Crystal Ball

Sexual Suicide

Girls and Boys (kind of disappeared, but is one of the strongest radio play tunes he ever had)

Beginning Endlessly

and throw in Wedding Feast at the very end. Not even kidding. It would shock. It's like some theatrical showtune excerpt.

I'd throw out The Morning Papers because those "sha-na-na's" ruin what could have been a great song. Staying on the same album, The Sacrifice of Victor is a nasty piece of funk and will tell the newbies a few things about P's background.

i like your original list. I'd scratch Scarlet Pussy for I Wish U Heaven (whimsical/spiritual Prince)

and add Dreamer and/or Colonized (political rocker Prince)

Great recommendations, makes me feel like i'm in love with prince again,

I'll strike out "Scarlet Pussy", and add in

I wish U heaven,

Take Me with U,

Computer Blue,

Rebirth of the Flesh,

Avalanche,

Bob George,

If I Was Your Girlfriend,

What Do U Want Me 2 Do?

Housequake,

3121,

The One U Wanna C,

Days of Wild,

Love Sign,

Prince's Love Thy will be Done,

Crystal Ball,

Sexual Suicide,

Beginning Endlessly,

Power Fantastic (which version U suggest?)

I probably try to use some effect to dub over the sha-na-na in Morning Paper, want to keep it in the list.

And more suggestion for a second installment?

Make them listen to Ballad of Dorothy Parker.
And if they don't get it, then don't bother.

That list looks pretty intimidating, kind of diving off in the deep end. I think I would include some songs from Sheila E., The Time, and others he's written for others or have been covered

I Wanna Be Your Lover (Dimitry From Paris edit) ~Prince

It Takes Two 2 Kiss ~Prince vs. Rob Base

Housequake Remix ~Prince

Cool 7" ~The Time

Cindy C ~Prince

Hot Thing (Live) ~Prince

Glamorous Life 7" ~Sheila E

The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker (Chezz Rework)

Wouldn't U Love 2 Love Me (Paisley Park Remix) ~Taja Sevelle

Paisley Park [Remix] ~Prince

Mountains

Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) 2013 rehearsal

Splash

Eternity ~Chaka Khan

Love Song ~w/ Madonna

Love Thy Will Be Done

Power Fantastic

It is challenging to distill his work on a single disc, I guess it depends on what your friend's musical taste

"So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

This topic comes back twice a week (there was one a few days ago) and I think y'all always asking the wrong question. There's no such thing as a prince playlist that'll impress anyone, y'all basically wasting your time and you friends will possibly not be impressed at all by your (or the people on this forum's) selection.

The question is "what kind of music/artists do those people you want to impress like?" and to a lesser extent "how old are they?".

You name 10 of my friends and I can assure you I'll come up with 10 different playlists because I'll know they wouldn't enjoy the same things at all.

A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
