so according to Bart, Prince entered into a contract with WB again and THEY get to decide when he releases something? where did this come from?

Common sense. Plus: similar deals for other artists.

Bart u know well that he does now own all of them.

I bet he doesn't. I bet the contract is that P will get the rights to an album after a remaster has been released. I see no reason why WB would give up rights to albums now when they wouldn't be in scope until a decade from now.

The press release says he does so there's no discussion about this, u'll c the small (p) NPG Records on the remasters. The deal must b that he owes them an exclusivity on the first rerelease, which I'll admit is kinda the same thing but technically he has them back even if he can't do anything with them without a first WB release.

"Prince has announced a new partnership with Warner Bros. that gives him the rights to his master recordings and creates "an exclusive global licensing partnership that covers every album released from 1978 into the '90s, according to a press release."

.

It's pretty clear. He has the masters. He exclusively licensed them to WB. End of discussion.

i think they have some sort of agreement when to release a remaster so it won`t collide with an acual newer release from him.....

The deal he got is quite good but with Prince--if he can`t control everything- he gets impatient and unsatisfied very soon...

Maybe that is the reason for this jon bream interview...he probably wanted PR and the new album to be released sooner and WB wanted to wait till november...

Bart, you know damn well he could release any album when he wants to at this point.

No, he can't. Right now the WB deal is preventing him from doing so.

Basically, it is his own lack of a normal brain preventing him. If he flips the right switch, he can do so. At least before the Warners deal, and who knows if there is anything in the contract about new

music.

It's obvious he can release music when he wants, as Breakfast Can Wait, RNR Love Affair, etc were all done with little or no effort.

It's just Prince is out of his mind, that is the only factor keeping the albums from coming out.

Still, it's funny you even care about the albums, because you will automatically hate any material recorded after 1989 or so. It's like your brain is programmed to automatically hate new Prince

material, so why even waste your time listening to it.

I will either love, like or dislike all new Prince material, I have CHOICES...

you don't. It's automatic hate. I am so glad not to have that issue.

Releasing his new album along with a reissue actually sounds very Prince to me; I wouldn't be surprised if it was an add on to the Purple Rain reissue so that people buying Purple Rain have no choice but to own the new one as well

LMAO at this.

Prince records what he wants, when he wants. He releases it however he wants.

He owns his masters.

He tours whenever he wants. He gets top dollar everywhere he goes. Every major festival in the world is still begging him to play.

He goes on TV whenever he wants. He appears in whatever TV show he wants, and the last time he did it. they showed it right after the Super Bowl, which is the most-watched television show in America.

He's worth a lot of money - by some estimates he is worth $300,000,000.

And you guys think he's ruined his career? You think he's screwed up? You think a man that has released more music than almost any artist in the history of recorded music hasn't put out enough stuff to keep you happy?

falloff

Quit listening to that bootlegger with a 20-year grudge against a man he's never met, and just enjoy the Prince ride.

Of course, my advice to quit listening to BartVanHemelen play out his 20-year-old one-sided argument with a man he's never met is directed to everyone. I wish Bart would go away, or at least go find Prince and settle up with him man-to-man. We're all innocent bystanders in his grude and we should all be tired by now of his constant bellyaching that Prince won't listen to him.

The simple fact that you make up lies about me and PROJECT YOUR DELUDED FANTASIES onto me says all one needs to know.

The simple fact that you once again attack me personally instead of providing arguments says all one needs to know.

He ain't releasing shit because nobody wants to pay the crazy money he's demanding. He thinks he's punishing the world by not unleashing his latest masterpieces on it, the reality is that he's cheating himself out of tons of money because he still hasn't figured out that the recording industry has significantly changed, and that he isn't a special snowflake who deserves special treatment. He still thinks he's a superstar, and fails to see that his actions (e.g. not promoting records, screwing record companies,...) have finally caught up with them.

This WB deal could restore some of that, and instead here he is bitching in public. Dude is an idiot, and this behavior is clearly the result of having lived in Princeworld (copyright Kevin Smith) for so long.

I totally sympathized with him back in 93-96, he fought a good war against a really wrong system IMHO. Ever since I have to admit that I'm a bit tired of the constant moaning: what we have here is a man who's been free to release as much music as he wanted, the way he wanted, as often as he wanted for 18 years and what did we get? Well the first few years were great but even since it's been less and less albums years after years, on the way there have been God knows how many fiascos, from CB and ONA Live being in stores before being in our mailboxes to the lotusflow3r.com ripoff which I really took as a personal insult towards his most loyal fanbase, and more than a dozen albums announced then shelved when nothing prevented prince from releasing them in the first place, save maybe Roadhouse Garden and CB II.

.

Don't get me wrong, one thing I've been constantly satisfied with is the music itself, I'm one of the few who've enjoyed the ride all along, from Emancipation to Superconductor.

.

If prince doesn't like the way majors work then why keep working with them and keeping bitching about them continuously. WB, EMI, BMG, Sony, Universal... he's done them all and kept complaining all along rolleyes

.

So yeah OK now he has to go thru WB for the first rerelease of the old albums and one more new album, so let's do it and then if he's not happy now that he owns his whole catalogue back let's create a real online store and release both old and new material in a massive way, which was exactly what prince said he'd do when he'd b free to do it back in 94-95 (Get Wild intro anyone?).

.

I was a premium member of NPGMC, then a "lifetime" member, then a member of lotusflow3r.com, I'll go along and buy the music if it's there to be bought. I'm not rich but I can afford a couple of new prince albums every month or so and I'll buy them, so cut the bloody crap and FREE THE MUSIC!!!

Very well said!!! To Prince eek razz lol

`

You don't have a leg to stand on in terms of "personal attacks" since all you do is lecture, talk down and grossly attack with the petulance/flatulence of a know-it-all in need of gas pain relief. Perhaps if your posts reflected a modicum of respect toward anyone that doesn't agree with you, then you'd have a point. The fact is you're calling Prince an idiot (personal attack) instead of sticking to criticizing his words and his music -- and this is on top of your horrid treatment of anyone that disagrees with your fixated and all-knowing views.

XxAxX has it right and it is your reading skills that should be questioned. Not sure why the moderators keep up with your obvious bullying and trolling.

Critical career moment?

Damn right! Noone in their right minds will pay Prince millions for his music anymore.

When it comes to new music, the career is over.

I just can't wait for the remasters though, they will be great, I am sure. woot!
