Yes databank.... you are right I guess,

The only reason to have The Bird, Jungle Love and Sex Shooter on the set is because these are in the Purple Rain movie..

Maybe a little like this 2LP-set, this collection includes these songs by The Time & Apollonia:

Prince - Strange Tales From The Rain:

http://www.discogs.com/Pr...se/3139238

Side 1

Let's Go Crazy 7.32
Jungle Love / The Time 3.25
Take Me With U 3.55
The Beautiful Ones 5.14
God 4.02
When Doves Cry 3.49

Side 2

Computer Blue 4.01
Darling Nikki 5.13
Sex Shooter / Apollonia 6 3.01
The Bird / The Time 7.40
Purple Rain 4.07
I Would Die 4 U 2.50
Baby I'm A Star 4.13

Side 3

Soft And Wet 3.01
I Wanna Be YOur Lover 2.57
Sexy Dancer 4.18
Uptown 4.07
Dirty Mind 4.11
Do Me, Baby 7.47

Side 4

Sexuality 4.20
Controversy 3.35
Little Red Corvette 3.08
Delrious 2.36
The Glamours Life 3.41

^

Notes

Double Promotional LP only released in Japan. Limited to 500 copies. Sides A & B configured in order of appearance in the film "Purple Rain".

An official Warner-Pioneer release.

[Edited 4/19/14 14:05pm]

i've got this and 'His Majesty's Pop Life' both still sealed. Sadly only worth a fraction of what they cost me in the late 80's, but that's the gamble you take! lol

Well, if we're talking "fantasy" as the OP requests, here's mine:

A single disc remastering of the original album that will stay in print and be available in all formats alongside a deluxe special edition 4CD box set that would only be available for a limited time.

In my fantasy, it would include:

Disc 1:

The same as the single disc version

Disc 2:

The expanded soundtrack

Some tracks would be identical to disc one, some would be replaced, such as LGC being the extended version, all other artist tracks in the film would be included

The tracks in the movie not on the soundtrack would be included in the proper order

Disc 3 & 4

All the edits, extended versions, alternate takes, b-sides, outtakes, video versions, etc

--

These would be accompanied by several related releases:

* Expanded Remasters on CD of Ice Cream Castle & Apollonia 6 that include all b-sides, edits & extendeds

* A 2 or 3CD live set from the Purple Rain Tour, never HEARD material rather than already circulating

* The Syracuse show on DVD, maybe a 2 disc set with another show and lots of bonus material

wink

If I fantasize about a possible 4K remastering of the movie on blu, I might get in a tizzy... lol

* All the remastering would be done with HD audiophile aesthetics rather than the industry standard of squashed loudness.

* The packaging would be deluxe & eyepopping but would not sacrifice the important quality of actually protecting and preserving the disc for a convoluted design.

* Nothing will be edited for PC or JW reasons. Nor will anything be prohibited for those reasons. A disclaimer will be included explaining the importance of preservation for historical reasons and that the views contained in the lyrics do not represent the current views of Prince or WB. No one will notice because this is 2014.

razz

And now that the fantasy is over I'll sit back, wait for the release, and get ready to discuss with you guys what went right and what went wrong...

Thanks!

Yeah, I would love to hear that since Jill's album is one of my favs! And the 12" of All Day All Night is great too. I've got all that stuff on vinyl, but I remember spending $50 for the Japanese CD of that and The Family. Before all those pirated ones showed up on eBay...

100% agree! The Time might even warrant a box set instead of individual album reissues!

Man, it's easy to get carried away thinking about Prince's 80's music! Plus Vanity 6 and The Family and Jill Jones. Of course that's pre and post Purple Rain.

I bet it will be 2 CDs.

First CD - the original album. Remastered. No edits.

Second CD - All the b-sides (some extended) + a couple of unreleased track we've already heard. No songs written by others than Prince.

I'd imagine you are 100% correct.

I theorize he is hypothetically 100% likely to be seemingly right.

This is what will probably happen if it's released at 11.99 reg retail 14.99 it will reach number 1 on the charts. But if the price point is higher than that we will probably get 2 versions. One deluxe mentioned above and 1 just being a remastered Purple Rain CD (without the extra b-side songs).

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Romeoblu

There aren't many known out takes from this period.

Fathers Song
Wednesday
G spot
eectric Intercourse
possessed

But it was stated that there were about 100 songs recorded for selection for the film. The mind boggles at the possibilities this set could have on it.

I'd rather have it full of songs previously unheard than 12 inch versions of songs I already ave on 12 inch records that sound great already and have listened too thousands of times.

If it 's released in June as should be, we won't have to wait too long before we get to see a track list.

And actually I'm all against adding tracks on the album's CD as well. It doesn't make any difference for me because I'll buy it digitally anyway, so I can make a folder with the original tracks and put the bonus material in another folder, but if I was still listening to CD's I certainly wouldn't want 17 Days to start right after the last notes of Purple Rain, or having to jump at my CD player to end my listening experience with PR instead of some bonus tracks. Or if they wanna save some space and fill in the CD's, then they'd have to leave a few minutes of silence between the last track and the bonus tracks so people can u know, have that feeling that the story's over.

Because be assured that in 30 years the only available version of PR will be those remasters, and I'd like them to be the very same album the world fell in love with in 84, note for note.

I am totally with databank on this and other posts. PR should be delivered intact, unchanged but in awesome sound quality with a perfect mix to reflect how it sounds on vinyl. There should then either be a second CD with b-sides, extended and unreleased tracks OR if it has to be a single CD then leave some silence between the end of PR and the start of the bonus tracks.

While we are on the fantasy element though I would like to propose (predict) the following:

Multiple versions aimed at different audiences...

Release 1 - Purple Rain (remastered)
CD1 = original 9 tracks + silence + b sides/extended
Aimed at casual buyers, 80s nostalgics and curious newbies
worlwide sales 1m

Release 2 - Purple Rain Deluxe
CD1 = original 9 tracks + silence + b sides/extended
CD2 = outtakes, alternate versions
Aimed at proper Prince fans
worlwide sales 100k

Release 3 - Purple Rain Super Deluxe Collectors Edition (boxset)
CD1 = original 9 tracks + silence + b sides/extended
CD2 = outtakes, alternate versions
CD3 = Ice Cream Castles
CD4 = Apollonia 6
DVD1 = Syracuse Live
DVD2 = Purple Rain - the film
Aimed at hardcore nutter Prince fans like those who visit the Org most days
worldwide sales 10k

Once again ICC and A6 have to be left out of this: they deserve their own deluxe package with all single mixes and b-sides as well as P's renditions of the songs and outtakes.

The out takes are the most exciting element of a reissue for me.

Without them I probably wouldn't buy the set. For me remasters are just a sales gimmick.

I mostly listen to Purple Rain on cassette, I just like the way it sounds

for me nothing is more exciting than Prince music I've never heard.

Hopefully soon full details will be made available and as a taste they will release something like Love and Sex or Electric Intercourse.

So I hope that there are at least ten unreleased songs included.

And Dez wrote it so that would mean Prince giving away a % of the mechanical (writing) royalties AND performance royalties on the PR Deluxe set. No way he would do that. There is the possibility (though still unlikely) that ICC and A6 could be included as Prince wrote all the tracks and performed all/most of the music except the vocals.

Saying all that and despite my "fantasy" release above I suspect the PR remaster/deluxe will ONLY feature Prince (and the Revolution) performed tracks.

I personally don't want Sex Shooter, Modernaire, Jungle Love or The Bird on thsi re-issue. I want this to be Prince's landmark album and its B-sides. The Syracuse DVD would be an outstanding bonus.

.

Two options for getting those related artists' music remastered and issued:

1. offer a download code within the package for the lossless files (for a limited time). Let fans add them to their playlists as they see fit.

2. do the same thing as above, but instead of including it in the audio package, you include it in a future remastered PR movie package.

NO! NO! NO! NO!

These tracks have no business being associated to the PR reissue in any way. They belong to the ICC and A6 and, for the last time, Dez Dickerson owns the masters to Modernaire (not that he wouldn't licence it but I doubt they'll bother asking him!)!

BREAKING NEWS...

Just read that the Apollonia 6 remaster will come out in June complete with their version of Manic Monday and the Apples lead vocal of Take Me With U. This will come as a box set with Ice Cream Castles complete with B-sides and alternate versions. The bonus 3rd CD in the box set will be Prince's Purple Rain album that some people will remember from the same era...

lol sorry databank couldn't resist

Same with Miles' Ascensceur Pour L'Echaffaud: for years I couldn't stand that album because it was too long, until the day I realized half of the CD was bonus tracks, except it was not written anywhere on it. No that I've ripped all my CD's I just kept the original tracklist and I find it a very enjoyable album to listen to.

God, that's a great album, the main motif is really haunting, and there's that badass track with the great bass in it (sur l'autoroute or something like that). Weirdly I found a copy in Nice in the Matisse museum's shop, that was a nice surprise, although a rather strange place to get it considering it has fuck all to do with Matisse smile. Yeah the stuff added on at the end does take away from the tightness of the original album, but it does make for good mood music when you're brooding alone in your private study at night, clasping a glass of Scotch. wink

I don't mind added bonus tracks at the end of the album, as long as they're clearly demarcated as such. There have been several times when I've been listening to an album that starts off really well until it gets pretty banal and mediocre after a while until I look on the Wikipedia page and realise I've been listening past the end of the album through five bonus tracks. Sometimes, if I'm not paying attention, I even listen to the alternate versions, not aware that I've already listened to the track!

I doubt that'll be a problem with Purple Rain though, considering most of us have the tracklist burned into our brains.

In the Purple rain Documentary 100 songs were mentioned that we're presented for consideration for the film.

Therefore I hope for at least 25 previously unreleased songs.

Most of those songs are just the same music used on the Purple Rain albums official release. Like there is "different" songs but at its core of some songs its Darling Nikki (Kind of like remixes but not.).

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
