She made no assumption at all... that's where your problem is here. The details of her contract with WB, the details of HIS contract with WB... it makes no difference to the fact he had no business calling her a "house nigga" either way. Do you think because he *might* have a better deal now that made it ok to call her that?

In the world of logic, the actually the details of the contract do matter, otherwise the point of her statement is null. Sorry I was a philosophy major so being logically inconsistent is a sort of a pet peeve to me. House nigga is referring to acting like a friend to someone who's in real terms your "master". If that type of power-relation does not exist then the relevance of the term doesn't exist and thus the relevance of the statement. The ethics of an event are not implicated in the logical consistency of statement made about said event.
Change it one more time..

U read it right bro! Actually Eye got it from Prince himself! Prince said that "the same people that bought "ATWIAD" was the same people that bought his "1999" album. He was speaking of his longterm fans that were there b 4 "Purple Rain".....

I have to say most days I find KCOOLMUZIQ's posts annoying

simply because he is such a total fanatic but these recent posts

are just hilarious! First he comments that only TRUE fans bought

ATWIAD and then when he is chastised for this comment he says

no no I didnt say that - Prince said that. Just throw Prince under the

bus so you can dodge the criticism. Is that any way to treat your

lord/savior/idol?

Eye am not dodging any criticism fool! Also not throwing Prince under the bus either. That quote shows how much Prince really cared about his fans, that were there from the beginning, by releasing an album so soon after "Purple Rain". His TRUE fans did buy ATWIAD!!!! I'm not taking that back. The others left after the hype died down..I'm sure he gained new fans also after "Purple rain'. I'm always chastised on here! So what's the big deal?

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

But, c'mon... I can't be the ONLY person on this site who's not that into live recordings? Am I? Hello?...

No, I utterly and completely agree. I want previously unreleased studio content... i don't want live recordings unless that was the way the song was originally recorded.

...and I dont want NEW remixes of old classics, either.

You're not alone... I have tons of live material, and I wouldn't mind if more came out (officially), but as a separate project from the Deluxe Edition idea. That should be studio focused, in my mind.

Seems to me now is a perfect time, for obvious reasons... and "house nigga"? Really? It doesn't matter whether the WB of today is different than the one of a decade ago or not.

Exactly. For Prince to say that about her back in 2002, it would stand to reason there should have been no way in hell, he'd have ever signed with WB again, for any reason. That's why Meshell brought it up now and I honestly don't blame her.

Like I said, if anybody said something that inflammatory to me it would not have taken me 12 years to step to them, WB or no WB.

I would have told him to his face in 2002 in no uncertain terms that if he ever came at me like that again he would be picking up a few teeth from the floor...real talk.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Hey org,

This is great news.

For Prince, Warner bros. records, the fans and the (US) music industry.

It was a long time coming, but a change will come, at last.

There is no sense tho' in saying that this could have been done before.

For the "termination rights" that US copyright law provides for, have certainly played a crucial in the negotiations of this groundbreaking deal.

It's not in the interest of Warner bros. records nor Prince to have an extensive, costly and risky legal battle over issues such as this or "work for hire".

The fact that the music industry, including Warner bros. records has changed a lot since the 1996 break-up shall also play an important part.

Warner bros. records isn't part anymore of the TimeWarner/AOL multinational conglomerate that it was part of during the 90's and 00's; it's more back to what it was in the 80's.

I hope it will be a major succes and that all involved are satisfied.

I wish them good luck and lots of wisdom in achieving a positive and fruitful working relationship.

It's crucial to ensure top quality remastering, packaging, marketing and distribution.

And it would be wise to give the fans all they want this time, plus a little more.

To make a suggestion:

Release a "deluxe" boxset and one Double CD

The CD contains the remastered original album, plus a disc chunck full of b-sides, outtakes and never before heard material.

The boxset contains the 2 CD's plus a CD full of extended versions and remixes, a DVD of the concert and a DVD of the movie. Five discs in total, accompanied by stunning packaging, full of informative liner notes, comments by Prince and associated artists, never before seen photo's and the beautiful, original artwork.

The entire release should be made available worldwide, record store release and internet release, at the same time, including a major Itunes/Spotify/Youtube/Facebook/Twitter/Amazon etc. marketing campaign.

So that nobody will ever forget how great a year 2014 was!

Previously, Strang was the founder of Southside Independent Music Publishing, which was formed in 2004 and acquired by Warner/Chappell in 2010. Strang was also the founder of independent label, New West Records.

Prior to being acquired by Warner/Chappell, Southside was a leading independent music publishing company with a reputation for discovering and developing numerous talented writers, producers and artists across a wide range of genres. Southside was founded with the signing of J.R. Rotem and, in just six years, built a roster that included Elektra Records recording artist Bruno Mars; producer Brody Brown; Nashville-based writers, Ashley Gorley and Blair Daly; Christian music star, Matthew West; and Kings of Leon.

Some top Southside songs include B.o.B's "Nothin' on You" and Cee Lo Green's "F*** You," which were both nominated for the 2011 "Record of the Year" Grammy Award; the No. 1 singles, "Grenade" and "Just the Way You Are," by Bruno Mars, and "Wavin' Flag," by K'Naan; Carrie Underwood's "This Time," "All American Girl," "Just A Dream" and "Jesus, Take The Wheel," which won the 2007 Grammy for Best Country Song; Trace Adkins' "You're Gonna Miss This," which was awarded the Academy of Country Music's 2009 Single Record of the Year; Brad Paisley's "Then" and "American Saturday Night;" Kenny Chesney's "Where I Grew Up;" India.Arie's "Ghetto;" Darius Rucker's "It Won't Be Like This For Long;" Flo Rida's "Right Round" and "Who Dat Girl;" Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire," "Taper Jean Girl," "Molly's Chambers" and "Use Somebody," which won three Grammys in 2010 and was one of the biggest global hits of the decade; and Rihanna's "S.O.S," Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" and Leona Lewis' "Better In Time," which were written by Rotem.

In 1995, after practicing law for a few years in his home town of Vancouver, Strang launched New West Records. In 2001, the label released the Grammy Award-winning album Nothing Personal by roadhouse rocker Delbert McClinton, Billy Joe Shaver's critically acclaimed album, The Earth Rolls On, as well as albums from breakout artist Tim Easton and veteran Stephen Bruton. During the last decade, Strang and New West have released numerous award-winning albums and built an impressive roster that includes Steve Earle, Dwight Yoakam, Kris Kristofferson, Rickie Lee Jones, Drive By Truckers, Ben Lee, Old 97's, Buddy and Julie Miller. Recently New West acquired the Texas Music Group including the Antone's label and the Watermelon Label, and released the award-winning soundtrack to the film Crazy Heart.

V10LETBLUES

A tricky part is that how we consume music today has changed. I rarely use a compact disc player other than maybe the one in my car sometimes, but mostly use my iPod/phone, Spotify, Pandora or stream via a cloud account. So I have no use for compact discs. I always hated them in the first place. A vinyl set "sounds" nice but most people do not have a record player.

But I do want a nicely printed liner notes booklet. I want to hear from the Revolution, related acts, the engineers, the director and lots and lots of pictures please.

Anybody got thoughts about reissues scheduling? If PR comes out this fall to celebrate its 30th birthday, will SIGN O THE TIMES reissue come out in 2017 for that one's 30th aniversary? Would be a prime time to re-release the movie as well. Maybe call up the Criterion folks? That's something they would probably dig. But seriously, what's next in the pipeline after PR in the reissue series? Maybe next year its ATWIAD?

after PR it would seem logical (to me anyway) if they released them 2 at a time:

.

For You // Prince

.

Dirty Mind // Controversy

.

1999 (stand alone)

.

Around The World In A Day // Parade

.

Sign O The Times (stand alone)

.

The Black Album // Lovesexy

.

all at 4 month intervals. otherwise the whole thing will take 10 years and i'm

sure that neither prince or warners or any fans are waiting on that. plus, the

new music he records in the meantime will need a release schedule too.

.

it seems to be fairly common practise to release more than 1 remaster at a

time for artists with a bigger back catalogue.

Seems logical. I say give us a friggin box set with all of them, like The Beatles. Why stagger it? It's already been too long. And aside from PR, 1999 and maybe SOTT, are people really clamoring for these? I just don't see there being huge fanfare for say, a Black Album/Lovesexy set, or even a ATWIAD/Parade set. I'm talking mainstream music listeners here.

well for us fans that would surely be the best option, the just be able to get them all

in one huge boxset biggrin i'd personally love that. although it would probably cost us an

arm and a leg, but what the heck, it'd be worth it if there were enough outtakes and

everything else was included (bsides, 12" etc).

imagine buying such a box though, and taking it home. where would you start? eek

seriously, i think i'd have to be sedated first lol

Paul McCartney has been re-issuing his solo catalogue in the last few years, including MCCARTNEY II. Were people clamoring for that as much as say RAM? Doubtful, but regardless it was nice having critics re-evaluate some of Macca's stuff decades after their original release. That's really what I hope we'll get from these Prince reissues, is giving a chance to these albums of his that aren't as well known to the masses or possibly even musicphiles unlike a PR or SOTT.

I like your pairings! Here are others I would do: Batman/Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds & Pearls/Love Symbol Album, Come/Gold Experience, Chaos & Disorder/

after PR it would seem logical (to me anyway) if they released them 2 at a time:

.

For You // Prince

.

Dirty Mind // Controversy

.

1999 (stand alone)

.

Around The World In A Day // Parade

.

Sign O The Times (stand alone)

.

The Black Album // Lovesexy

.

all at 4 month intervals. otherwise the whole thing will take 10 years and i'm

sure that neither prince or warners or any fans are waiting on that. plus, the

new music he records in the meantime will need a release schedule too.

yes, those are really the best pairings for those albums nod

but i'm not sure we'll ever get a Batman reissue, simply because of

licensing with the samples from the movie and all. but who knows.

imagine buying such a box though, and taking it home. where would you start? eek

seriously, i think i'd have to be sedated first lol

OMG. I'd for sure need wine. Or Xanax. I'd probably have to jump into Sign/Black/Lovesexy first. Although, having pristine studio recordings of Our Destiny/Roadhouse...hell even Prince's demo of Desire...I'd probably have to take a leave of absence from my job. lol

Weird the website won't let me write the names of the last two albums Prince gave WB to escape his contract. You know what those two are.

i think those are the ones RRA probably means, yes.

/

it would be a bit weird to have an expanded edition

of The Vault OF4S since it's already just a grab bag

of outtakes.

/

however, it would obviously have to include the rest

of the "I'll Do Anything" songs which would fit in with

it perfectly.

/

except for Empty Room which would have to go onto

the C&D remaster since it was originally planned to be

on that album in the first place.

/

i've been thinking outtakes and bonustracks nonstop

since we got the news.

/

i'm setting myself up for SUCH a hard fall in the end lol

Hopefully, they'll just start a From The Vault series eventually so we can really be in 7th Heaven.
