Fred Armisen tells Prince story on Howard Stern

Fred Armisen was on Howard Stern last week and Howard complimented him on his Prince impersonation. Howard then asked if he ever met Prince. Fred said that when Prince came on SNL (back when he performed FURY), he did meet him at the after party. Armisen is a huge fan and he says the meeting went something like this...
Prince was at a table at the restaurant where the SNL party was being held and apparently he was just chilling, eating some mac n cheese, unwinding. Fred comes up to him and says "Hello, Prince. I'm Fred. I just want to say I think you're so great. I'm a huge fan of your music." Prince replies, "You know what I think is great? This Mac n Cheese." Prince then goes back to eating as if Fred wasn't there. Fred said he sat for a moment then he just walked away in silence. Then Howard called Prince a "c***su***r".

Hilarious.

Fred said he sat for a moment feeling awkward thinking he was being fucked with by Prince and then when he realized Prince was serious he just walked away in silence. Then Howard called Prince a dick. Hilarious.

I've thought Prince a dick ever since I heard the story of how he docked Wendy's paycheck when she stepped out of her hotel room with a beer in her hand in '86... BUT approaching someone when they're sitting down eating just to have a fangasm over them seems questionable. Did Fred apologize for interrupting his meal?

I know Prince isn't house trained where social graces are concerned but maybe that's the point Prince was trying to make... he was trying to enjoy his meal.

I don't think fred would approve of putting words in his mouth he did not utter. Have you ever heard of libel: a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation.

I still think interrupting someone while they're eating expecting conversation is a bit rude

So this story didn't happen? It sounds like a classic Prince story, virtually everyone that meets him seems to come away with a good story. It's not as if people are saying "Yeah, I met him, and he was so boring. Nothing happened really."

of fuck off...i confirm that Fred is an oversensitive, intrusive prick who probably wanted prince to gush over his shit impersonation of him!. P was chillin in his own space & probably was just fuckin' around. FFS can the man just have the right to what the hell he pleases without constantly being judged?

You are making the story worse than what it was. Fred never said he thought he got f*** with and started off by saying he was really nice. It's really not a big deal like you are letting on.

the part of the interview where he talks about meeting him is at 45:53

After listening to that part of the interview, as linked above, I have to agree that the original post is misleading.

The quotes aren't accurately reproduced here either. Prince calls what he's eating "the greatest" when Armisen tells Prince that he thinks he's "the greatest". Howard calls him a "cocksucker", but it's stated in the context of him actually admiring Prince's ability to give short, absurd answers to people and them not getting angry at him.

Fred Armisen previously appeared on Stern's show in January 2013:

During that interview, Stern (once again) recited his story about his attending one of Prince's New York Benefit shows in October 2008 and getting annoyed because Prince asked for the lights to be turned out during his performance:

http://prince.org/msg/12/285461

Armisen was asked on the show whether he got to meet Prince during the filming of his SNL appearance in 2007 and he said that he didn't directly. He didn't refer on that occasion to his approaching Prince after the show at the afterparty.

Whilst Stern expresses in the 2013 show his own annoyance with Prince's attitude, Armisen himself doesn't agree with Stern.

Howard Stern asked Armisen directly about his views on Prince:

HS: Do you think Prince is an asshole?

FA: No. I am a huge Prince fan.

As far as I can hear, at no time in this current interview does Armisen express the view in the thread title.

He didn't just happen to see Prince out at dinner. Prince was at the wrap party for the show Fred works on. Why go if you don't want to be bothered by cast members?

Prince is hardly the only celebrity who doesn't want to be bothered while they are eating. Tyler the Creator has a whole rap about how much it annoys him on one of his recent releases. It's rude to interrupt someone when they are eating.

Whether Fred Armisen confirmed it or not, doesn't matter. In 36 years, it's been very well established that Prince is a dick, by none other than Prince himself. So I really do not understand why some of y'all are acting like this is some kind of newsflash? shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Check me if I'm wrong but didn't Fred Armison post on this site a time or two?

I don't recall him saying Prince was anything, much less a dick.

wow, that's almost exactly what he reportedly said to a fan who approached him at Glam Slam gushing over the Emancipation record. "And your point would be what?"

At Paisley Park at the last celebration in 2001, Prince was on his way down the hall with a few bodyguards around him and one bodyguard sort of bumped a friend of mine who got knocked a step off. Prince turned around, shrugged, put on a funny face and said "Sorry." as they walked away.

I think you have that story mixed up with the one with the fan who told him how much he loved the "Emancipation" record. The story with him playing basketball at Sunset Sound is when the woman approached him and told him how much she loved his music, and he just stared at her, turned around and walked away without saying a word to her.

The guy on SNL who did skits imitating Prince. A few of them were rather funny. Fred didn't say Prince was a dick, Howard did, and they're right. He often seems to be. remember, this coming from two fans (Howard and Fred). Three if you count me. Prince was sort of a jerk the one time I met him
