I'd say retirement is probably on the horizon after 3EG runs its course.

Maybe you should retire being a Prince fan. This year has been great so far!!

I probably would after a 3rd 3EG album. And I mean no offense to Prince, I just think that to go on like the Stones is something that only the Stones and the remaining Beatles should be doing, and I'm not even sure about that. It's only logical that things wind down at some point.

'after 3rd Eye Girl' means after that band has gone/changed/etc?

Or when their album has finally been released? (the album situation gets shadier and shadier)

Anyway:

I just want some instant classic songs. Not necessarily hits but good songs.

This requires a coherent album.

And yes, the longer intervals between albums suggest that this process takes more time than before.

Oh, eh, By the Way:

.

Did I mention Billy Idol recently?

His sound has guitars and some synths.

P could listen to him for inspiration for some stuff

Stop acting like Prince is so old! He's only 55! He'll probably keep at it for at least another 20 years or so! He lives and breathes to perform and make music!

Who said anything about his age. I'm saying that he's approaching 40 albums with god knows how many more albums in his vault. It's just a thing that the more albums an artist has out, the less chance there is of releasing good music. I think the first 3EG album will be stunning, and each successive one (if there is a plan for that) will fall off.

After 3rdEyeGirl, I'd like for him to hold auditions for a drummer who can keep a beat. It can be a pretty girl, if it works out that way. But let's make sure she's a decnt drummer before giving her the job because he wants to cuckold her husband.

I was a skeptic of a Hannah's at first, but after listening carefully to her on boots she's actually pretty decent. She doesn't do everything well, but she holds her own. She's almost as good as Cora IMO.

Change it one more time..

Rather than new music, I'd rather have some unreleased tracks from the vault from the "Dirty Mind" through the "Purple Rain" years and I don't want them rerecorded in the style he's feeling these days. In order to make great music, you have to be inspired to make it and we live in uninspiring times these days. I don't blame Prince himself, I blame the current music scene in general of the last 20 years. When Prince makes new music these days, I hear two things that's going on. He either sounds like he's paying tribute to his childhood heros moreso than having his own sound or on the other end of the spectrum, he sounds like he's sacrificing his music and watering it down with a current sound in an attempt to either compete with tired current so-called artists or gain additional fans who like their tired sound.

.

That's why I'd rather just eliminate that altogether and get some stuff that was actually recorded back in the days when music was inspiring and he had good contemporaries to inspire him and compete with him and also the so-called music of the current so-called artists of the last 20 years didn't exist back then so the songs that Prince recorded back then were 100% totally free from all their so-called styles, sounds, influences, etc.

Exactly Andy! Prince doesn't have anyone in the music scene today that will push him to make stellar music. MJ has passed, Madonna has somewhat vanished and all the great acts of the 80's are gone. I applaud Prince for his longevity but he's gotta come up with more interesting songs. The only person I find that could inspire Prince would be Pharrell Williams, as he has that Prince sound, Neptunes sound and N.E.R.D sound. I would love for them to do a real collaboration.

Why does this fantasy of the 78-87 music refuse to die? Like Prince said, "When you're 20, you're lookin' for the ledge?"

Id like to hear him paint a wider picture musically like he did with parade, huge production, orchestra, mandolins, harps etc, short, sharp songs with big sound. Id also like to hear an all put James brown album, big bass and loud horns, 10 funk songs like James browns love peace power Paris live album and also another outakes box set

make another piano cd...just that lovely voice n a piano wink

Yes, I would absolutely love that too!

Edit that (hence the edit time stamp): Now that I think further, yes on the piano. But add an orchestra with some violins. I think he'd make some beautiful jazzy/classical compositions. Sorry Nurse, didn't mean to hijack your wish smile

So, the 3rd Eye Girl project has given many fans what they wanted - a raw, stripped down, rock formation.

My question is, what do you want next?

I would like a real return to the Minneapolis Sound. A return to Prince's pioneering drum machine and synth programming, with funky rhythm guitar and super tight bass licks and vocal effects. Essentially, a modern day "Controversy" combined with "Camille" album. No horns, unless they are heavily digitally processed.

.

Yeah, I must admit the above sounds great and what I'd love to hear again. Loved the early synth work of Prince (I'm a sucker for synths!). However I love the 3rd Eye Girl live experience - mindblowing in parts - however I fear that the rawness and energy will be lost in translation on vinyl/CD ("Fury" is a prime example).

.

But I must add that I'd love to see Prince go forward and just do an about-turn and offer something leftfield and fresh like "The Rainbow Children", one of the reasons that I got into the man's music in the 80s - when you couldn't second guess his next album.

I would love this! Otherwise gimme something leftfield and outrageous like Parade or The Rainbow Children. No more kiddiepop like Fallinlove2nite please...

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
