Come on, where does it say he picked her because of her hair style? It doesn't. Her hairstyle attracted him. Hence the statement "what struck me was her hair". That's not why he "picked her" to be in his band. He clearly explains why he chose her - "She had to learn 150 (songs) to get the gig and she did it."

No. Read it again:

He clearly explains the bass player had to learn 150 songs, the guitar player... hairstyle.

Actually, he clearly says that "the first thing that struck" him was her hairstyle. He doesn't say that was the reason he picked her. And, anyway, it's not meant to be a serious comment, just a cool thing to say.

Prince sacked his old bass player because he didn't know enough songs.

The 'Purple Rain' hitmaker, who continues to excite fans with a number of gigs in the UK, decided to get rid of the musician when he met Ida Nielson, who later joined his all-girl band 3RDEYEGIRL.

He said: "My old bass player, who shall remain nameless, didn't know as many songs as Ida.

"She had to learn 150 to get the gig and she did it. So I sacked my old bass player."

They're playing the same dozen songs over and over again. This "150 songs" bullcrap is ridiculous.

.

Look at Bruce Springsteen: tours Australia and New Zealand, plays a NEW COVER on each date, oh and the covers are songs by local artists who made it big.

.

Prince? Still peddling the same tired crap year after year. And famz claim it is better than ever, because apparently Prince's legendary 1980s gigs and tours (i.e. the ones which were focused on NEW MUSIC) would obviously have been a lot more legendary if they'd featured a shouty woman and an endless cover of some disco tune.

Speaking of people "still peddling the same tired crap year after year".....! Clearly, irony is lost on you.

We know Rhonda knows more than 150 of his songs because we' e heard her play them. The 2002 celebration alone, how many did she play.

I'm personally hoping he meant Larry biggrin

He never said he picked Donna because of her hairstyle.

Donna said in an earlier interview (last year I think) that they each had to learn "over 100 songs".

As mentioned by someone else, the comment was meant to be humorous anyway, not an insight to his band member selection process.

If they had to learn over 100 songs, it sure would be nice if they played more than a total of 15 over the past year so that they could use that YouTube channel of theirs to share more than similar performances of the same 3 or 4 over and over.

Seriously lol...Bart has become an "oldies act" here on the Org...trotting out the same old tired "hits" that he wrote over 10 years ago, and that weren't very good to begin with. He hasn't written a decent post in years...he's clearly lost his postwriting skills. He just keeps putting out mediocre posts that are derivative from what he was doing over 10 years ago.

Exactly, the Boss played "Royals" by Lorde in his first show and the audience went ape shit. Bet you if Prince came here, he would think we are part of Australia and would only want to sleep with Lorde rather than showcase her music.

Good on Bruce for doing some great covers, even if they aren't my cup of tea.

But then we have to get into the mud slinging? Who even cares who Prince wants to sleep with If anything he seems to be surrounding himself only with talented females (both in and outside the core band) - which is a bit different from the mighty 1980s. Apollonia?

And as far as Bart's 'same old' comment:

Let's just compare the 2014 tour to 2012. Things have changed.

I'll make it easy.

2012: http://www.princevault.co..._May,_2012

2014: http://www.princevault.co...uary,_2014

Radically different. Different band. Different songs, different arrangements.

Springsteen does not play a new cover on each date. E.g. Royals played March 1st and March 2nd. Highway to Hell's been played 8th Feb/ 11th Feb /15th Feb / 26th Feb. (Pedantic - moi?!) Springsteen also not exactly focussing on NEW MUSIC - his last gig featured a full performance of the Born To Run album (from 1975!!!!).

(None of this is to criticise Springsteen - I personally think he and Prince are both stunning live performers).

Sure Prince's legendary 1980s gigs focussed on new music but I think for most artists once you reach a critical mass of material there's a weight of expectation to play certain songs....it's not as if he didn't play Purple Rain on the SOTT or Lovesexy tours....and arguably over half of the material played on the Lovesexy Tour was "old" (i.e. non-Lovesexy) material! Can't be bothered counting but over the course of the 2 Manchester gigs last weekend 3rdeyegirl played around 50 different songs - none of which featured a shouty woman (on stage at any rate - there were a few in the crowd!!!). Finally, the legendary tours of which you speak - they're not exactly famed for their constantly rotating set lists! Sure, there were the odd change from night to night but nothing spectacular....

You, too, are correct!

I'll bet that if you compare any two tours - one from, say, 1980 - 1992 and one from, say, 2007 - 2014 - you will find there were more songs played in the later tour.

I'm sure someone here has all the tours and songs played on them downloaded into Excel. It would be cool if someone compared all the songs played on the "Purple Rain" tour with all the songs played on the "21 Nights" tour (London, NYC or LA).

Yes, he's playing his old stuff quite generously.

Yes, he's doing such in great(!) ways, but still, it is old stuff.

Fortunately we now hav this Plectrum Electrum album coming ('this spring'). This album added some fresh songs to the setlist.

Rather the opposite.

After being slightly obsessed you wake up every now and then.

You put the pink glasses away and see the real picture.

This might happen after seeing a full tour or sooner; it all depends on you. (I've been there)

.

You learn to differentiate between the music and the man, the person, the actions, the reality.

In that state you can more easily point out certain flaws.

Prince sacked his old bass player because he didn't know enough songs and Ida Nielson was able to learn more than him.

Once more you get your facts wrong. Yes, you've certainly gone downhill since the late 1990s.

And yet, year after year you seem to be paying attention...? Odd.

You've been complaining about him since I first read your posts in 2000(over 14 yrs ago).

Why do you keep holding on, if you clearly can't stand him or his choices in songs?

It`s sad, but also interesting...A man like Bart gets - with his always negative posts- much attention and shifts the conversation towards him and his views....and then the topic gets lost and what started as a good discussion is just about people like him....

I think that tells a lot about these times and the internet where everybody can complain and talk bs all the time...
