My thoughts exactly! I knew I wouldn't be the first to say it. (Not even the second.) Seriously, there are so many bands that play guitar rock that I don't really need that from Prince. He can funk like no one! (Except George & Bootsy of course, but they're not coming up with new stuff either.)

Strangely, I have a good feeling about this. Also, I liked "Fixurlifeup", both musically and lyrically, and I would consider it great had it a real chorus to round it off.

The first word of your post says so much. It's getting to the point where some of us are so bored with Prince's new music that we're surprised that we still care about it! wink And I agree with you about the chorus. The song would be better if he had worked a little harder on that, instead of just repeating the title a few times.

The guitar riffs are the chorus moreso than the words are...Prince tends to do that on his rock/funk songs (Endorphinemachine, I Like It There, Peach, etc.). Jack U Off and Delirious have synth "riffs"-as-chorus instead, with both just repeating the title a few times as well. Darlin' Nikki uses just synth to fill in for the chorus (that and his screams lol). He's been doing songs without "proper" chrouses for decades. I'm not sure Fixurlifeup would have been improved with a more sing-along chorus.

What really appealed to us was the idea of how bands would record back in the day. Like Led Zeppelin or Fleetwood Mac or Hendrix, where everyone's in the studio, everyone's playing together, and it's about the feel and the performance, rather than the digital sound that's popular now.

.

Hah. Fleetwood Mac were notorious studio residents, they lived there for aeons and did mountains of coke. Tusk cost one million dollars and was one of the most expensive albums ever at the time -- oh, and it was also the first ever recorded in a digital format.

.

But of course such facts do not comply to the mythical BS Prince comes up with, so instead he promotes a romantic picture which has got ZILCH to do with reality.

.

Hendrix? http://www.8notes.com/bio...endrix.asp

.

.

I mean, I've known this for decades. Dude named one of his albums after the studio he recorded it in (which he had built).

.

This album is a different style and direction from Purple Rain. But, in terms of how guitar-heavy it is, if you like Purple Rain, then this album is rockin'.

.

Such BS.

.

I've heard 3rd Eye Girl, and they are no Revolution. And shame of them for thinking they are.

I don't really understand why P has to be so conservative: it's always "old music better than new music", "real music by real musicians" as opposed to "fake music by fake musicians", "analogic is better than digital", "vinyl is better than flac", "live takes better than modern studio technology" etc. Why be so reactionary? Things are what they are and they weren't better or worse in 1978 than they are now. Music evolves, technology evolves, trends change, live with the time!

I could except Prince's music conservatism if Prince didn't use drum machines, synthesizers, sequencers and not to mention Prince has sampled before: "7" and "Tick Tick Bang" come to mind. Many musicians from the '70s said the same thing when Prince used synthetic instruments to achieve the 'Minneapolis Sound'. Since saying "Real Music By Real Musicians" starting in 2002 during the ONA era, he has recorded projects like MPLSOUND and 2OTEN which uses digital recording technologies.

Lastly, I am interested in hearing Prince's record with 3rd Eye Girl. Real drums and real bass, music played in real time, with a band he put together from scratch, I'm rooting for him to release this record, promote the record and play the music from the record live. Not to mention, these women have devoted their careers into playing for Prince. They deserve to get their shine.

Sheesh for people that don't like anything P has done since '88, they're surely on here a lot. strange...but anyway, i honestly can't wait for the album. FixurLifeup isn't his best but it's an ok song. it's not 1984, The Revolution were ok but even they weren't his technically best bad with a subpar drummer and people still love them YET they'll bash his new band...again, strange.

3EG is new and fresh (for Prince). i just wish he'd stop dropping fake hints and things of that nature. just drop an album by march...do A LOT OF PROMO (TV shows like Arsenio, GMA and Fallon, radio like Steve Harvey, then tour til the end of the year.

Hey Bart, if you've known this for decades, how come you didn't know it was the other way around: he named the studio (which he started building in 1969) after his 1968 Electric Ladyland album.

She's comparing it to Purple Rain, for fuck's sake.

Considering the known output of 3rd Eye Girl, that is just pathetic. It is crystal clear these girls and P are utterly unaware of how shiteous their output has been so far; you'd think that not managing to sell out a modest club tour (even after halving prices and giving away tickets for free) would have given them a clue, but noooooo. Of course it's because they're so far ahead of the pack, that people just don't understand their brilliance. And then of course they claim that it is up there with Prince's most iconic album.

I felt/feel the same way about that performance... obviously both songs. I'm so glad I DVRed that in HD. Check out the smooth, classic half-spin back P does right at the end of 'Screwdriver', and look at his expression. THAT is quintessential Prince. As Dr. Cornell West said at the NAACP award show... "He is a GIANT amongst us!"... This Fallon performance was evidence of that... a true giant.

Yes, they are a lot of people that are bashing on the music output from the past couple of years. Some are cheap shots and some come with astute criticism. For the older fans, it comes from a place of disappointment and feeling let down through the years of listening to patchy and lackluster albums. Ultimately, all of these people would love to have a great new album where Prince has put 100% effort into the project and supports instead of abandoning it a week after it's release.Thats what we all really want. I think if she would've mentioned "Lotus Flower" instead of "Purple Rain" that would've been more apt. But besides us orgers and beyond the casual fan who really knows of "Lotus Flower". I didn't really take it that she was comparing it to "Purple Rain'. I really have zero expectations on this album but wouldn't like more than everything else is to get a phenomenal album. Problem is with everything that I have heard in 2013 doesn't really give me hope that this album project will live up to the great works from the past or even an above average album. I would love to be proven wrong.

I really love Screwdriver, the Breakdown and FunkNRoll. I think the songs maybe there.
Problem here is nearly 4 year wait, fans will be expecting something that can match up to his greatest work. If your waiting around for Prince or whomever to release something that will change your life, move on look to Jesus. If I get 7 solid good songs and a few greats I'll be happy and enjoy them for what it is...likely a solid rock album with no bull. Remains to be seen but one thing, I still believe Prince has the potential to make one of those albums that shakes the foundation. Never stopped believing.
