They are? What is your source?

If now, even being 'independent', he cannot get the deals that he got before (after quitting WB) then what? He used to be '#1 at the bank'.

You'd never guess that from this message board lol...the amount of whining, bitching and moaning going on at p.org about not getting a new CD in 2013 is migraine-inducing.

if you believe the demands for new Prince music is high, then you must be rather naive.

Dream on in your little Prince world, then.. cuz demands for a new album hasn't been lower, among fans and generally with the broader mass/ outside the fan community. The world just doesn't care for Prince anymore. sad

yes cuz apparently Prince postponed the release of the Plectrum electrum album last year until 2014 when it's the 30th anniversary of purple rain in an attempt 2 make it sell better, if the demand 4 a new Prince release was higher than it wouldn't matter when he would release it

So the album won't be released until June?...Because that's the only way they could possibly play off the 30 year release of Purple Rain. Releasing it in, say, March wouldn't cut it. "30 years ago 3 months from now, Purple Rain was released!"...doesn't exactly shoot off fireworks, does it lol.

So almost nobody cares if Prince releases a new CD, and nobody gives a rat's ass about the man himself. Then is there any reason whatsoever why you are still here, and why you even give a shit if he even releases another CD?

Do you live vicariously through his fame or something? You feel Prince is only worth praising when the masses are praising him in lockstep, too? You care more about his Billoboard status than you do about the music he produces?

A few too many of you apparently feel that, when it comes to being a fan of Prince, what always mattered first and foremost to you was his level of publicity...that's what gave you the thrills over his career, and that's what validated the quality of his music in your eyes. "Look how popular my favorite musical artist is!"

Does it really matter to anyone if Prince released his next CD in 2013 or 2014?...Does it really matter to anyone here if Prince (or the label he's working with) decided to release his next CD in 2013 to get it into fans' hands quicker, or in 2014 to maximize the promotiion aspects of a Purple Rain tie-in? Are you going to like the music more either way? Were you going to enjoy hearing the finished product more in 2013 than you will in 2014? Is timing the release date to maximize sales the sign of an artist nobody cares about anymore? Raise your hands if you think WB never, ever made any release date decisions for Prince's albums around maximizing his sales...If so, talk about being naive and living in your "little Prince world" lol...

In absence of the product we diuscuss the process that supposedly leads to a product.

Be it a CD or a concert, the situation is quite similar.

But nobody would care about the process because apparently nobody cares about the end result (an album), as well as nobody cares about the person using that process to create that end result.

That's the argument being presented: Prince should just go ahead and release the CD already, because "the world" doesn't give a shit about him or his music anyway.

Because that is the main issue.

The longer it takes, the more 'production' could be added.

Remember TGE?

C'mon udo. You've been around Prince long enough to know that RULE #1 is:

You know when I go to Dave's World studio in Ambridge, PA..."The Granati Brother's " studio, Huge Italian family (very nice), who do invite you to "Mama's Rosa's restaurant...dinner at 4:00 a.m." in the morning....to me it's a great experience. There is no clock, no windows, so you have no concept of time... and with the studio feeling like your inside the body of a gorgeous gibson acoustic guitar and log cabin resort, to me the warm ambient round raw sound and vibration is perfection. When you flow with creativity leaving the ego at the door, to me, this is Heaven. The world dis-appears and your in the moment of joy.

Sure.

But if you record your stuff 'live' then why does the rest take so much time?

There's no room for overdubs, 'production' and other stuff.

Just record, master, press and release that stuff.

If a bootleggar can put stuff on the market quickly, why can't Prince?

One person's filler is another person's classic. I remember when 1999 first came out, "DMSR" was called "filler" in some reviews.

I wanted an album in 2010 (more than we got--and one I could buy), I wanted one in 2011, I wanted one in 2012, I wanted one in 2013 (and thought I might get one) and I want one in 2014. Actually, I could have taken more than one in each of those years. I like albums (as a format), and I'd like one from Prince, and I don't really care too much about the promotional aspects--but I'm more than willing to read people discussing them.

However, I don't expect a whole lot to results from any promotional approach--Prince releases the greatest album since Sign, and I expect he gets some big reviews, a bit of press, sells somewhere in the top 10 the first week, and continues touring around with a largely hits show. Why? Because that's what people of his age and stature do (obviously there are exceptions). But I don't have a problem with that--Dylan's been going pretty well for the last bit, releasing strong albums (admittedly also sprinkling in bootleg series stuff, which I'd like Prince to do something similar to, of course), having no particularly strong sales results from them, but building his legacy and touring. Yay, Bob! I'd like Prince to do the same. I don't necessarily expect it--I think the release date won't particularly matter (if Prince ever does release anything)--but I'm sure somebody somewhere is being paid to figure out whether it would and if so, how to maximize the effect. I don't think anyone here is that person, however, so we'd probably all just be talking out of our hats.

Of course, I could be wrong.
