Maybe we should have a "Prince is over and done" sticky...

... so those dudes who got nothing to do but repeating the same BS almost word for word over and over, week after week, month after month, year after year can all masturbate together on how Prince is a washed-up artist and let us folks who try to discuss Prince seriously use this forum in peace?

THREE threads on the first page, saying EXACTLY the same thing. And none gets locked (but who knows maybe mine will lol )

Mods please do something, I know this is a free world and you can't lock these threads because really they don't violate forum rules, but yeah, let's have a sticky once and for all!

And as I said earlier when one of these dudes said I was defending Prince... I'm not defending Prince, I'm defending my kind. I'm an artist, I've been involved in the creative process for my whole adult life, I know what it means and what it takes, and I know the respect artists deserve for having the guts to go thru it despite all the bullshit they hear year after year. I stand for Prince, I'd stand for any other musician or creative person.

Opinions are fine, not anyone can like a piece of art, but being judgmental like that, condemning an artist as a whole... and someone of Prince's calibre on top of it all... Shame on those unproductive people who bring nothing to the world and do nothing but spitting on their brother without showing the respect true professionals and dedicated people deserve.

OK, I said it. Sometimes ranting feels good lol

Imagine, it's a normal day, everything okay, and then it happens.

You log on and there is no "Prince is sooooooooo 1988"

Nobody complaining about his new releases.

Now, that's not right, is it?

I would have to start the complaining about Prince threads myself, just to prevent me from getting suicidal over the breaking of that constant reliable thing in the world that I can hold on to.

Frankly, I can't understand the angry and disrespectful answers these kind of threads get. It's just fans expressing their view on the evolution of Prince's music, that's all. Why the anger? No need to answer, anyway... confused

The problem many of us have over this is how non-productive, un-informative, and horribly repetitive the complaining is.

Think of it this way....if I was to ask the forum when/where Prince recorded the live portions of the Purple Rain soundtrack, I would promptly receive a link to a previous thread on the Org discussing this along with a derisive comment about why am I repeating something already discussed.

That's how I and many others feel about the incessant "Prince is over with" discussions that are brought up.

I agree with OP on this, some of the negative criticism that gets onto some threads which start out as a point worth discussing, drift into nothing but dellusional discussions about the 80´s being the be all and end all of Prince´s career. IMO, certain individuals live in some 81-88 bubble and can´t get over the fact that that kick is no longer there, which to be fair, is a very dangerous state of mind to have in the first place.

No sane Prince fan who grew up and lived with the 80´s era would deny its brilliance but to compare everything else since 1988, with a sort of ignorant snobery is simply dellusional. A few days ago, Something In The Water rehearsal was put up on YT and 3rdeye, it is F***ing amazing and delivers an answer to the nay sayers, one which I am sure has them cowering in their bubble...

Regardless, the nay sayers, haters etc will have something to moan about and the OP is right, there should be a sticky thread for them to exercise all that misguided frustration out and keep the bubble demon of the 80´s at bay...

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

I can't imagine anyone here is interested in simply stifling a contrary opinion. I do contend that hearing that same opinion reiterated day after day grows tiresome.

I follow this forum because I'm that into (my friends & family may say 'obsessed') with Prince's music, and the Org is the one place to share that. To have 1 out of 5 threads (week after week) argue that Prince now sucks....this is not why I come here. And I have a hard time understanding what motivates these authors to do this.

You have every right to your opinion; I would just ask the Prince Nay-Sayers to consider whether their point has been made.

You may have a point there, but P.F.U.N.K was not a retaliation to nay sayers, haterz and bashers, it was a reply to the whole internet cease and decease thing. Which at the time had relevance and still does. Think of all the millions of shitty youtube amateur uploads we would have to suffer, if all that shit was still allowed to be uplaoded. Plus, all the disgruntled concert goers that miss out on the experience coz they spend most of the show figuring out where the record button is... wink

I agree and disagree at the same time.

If he would not be so anal about it...stuff would get made...some awesome..some shitty...the shit would sink and be easily distinguishable from decent stuff...

But I also TOTALLY understand him wanting to control his nd not have people rape it and abuse it.

Mostly in wanna b able to go to utoob and like Bruce...find loads of concerts that I can prince-turbate my ears too. And usually now, When he does it,all we get is a shoddy(even in bootleg terms) cam vid with cam audio. Its like he eliminates the low end so he doesn't have to worry about being the same as the low end and doesn't have to stepbuo his game in that respect. As if its hard to step your game up above a handheld cam with shoddy....hell with that... SHITTY audio. I believe i said a 5 y/o's crappy Fischer price plastic disc player sounds better than the audio in the recent "always/hair".

It's called manipulation: if u didn't exist P would still say u do. It's a common tactics for artists: having "haters" contributes to your mythos and allows you to play the role of the fighter for the truth and one's own reputation, and as a communication tool it makes wonder. I myself have my "haters" and I carefully keep teasing them every once in a while so they don't forget to bitch about me, and I will regularly, in the trickiest ways, remember my readers that they exist. It gives 3D to your public image, sort of.

Prince doesn't need or give a shit about your threads. Even if we'd all be praising him from morning to evening he'd still find other haters (the media, the majors, journalists, ex associates) ways to pretend he's hated and fighting for the right cause lol lol

Could you sound any more pompous? Oh, I'm an artist, just like Prince, you non-artist types don't have the right to comment.. Purlease! Everybody knows that 'artists' are self consumed ego strokers that are incapable of self criticism.

Nonsense. You have no idea of the shit we have to go thru. You have no idea how critical we are between ourselves when we show our respective works to each other. You have no idea how many years it takes for one of us to be able to hear criticism from just the first jerk passing by and NOT think "Jeez, he's right, my work sucks, no one will ever like it". Why do you think so many of us are alcoholics or drug addicts in the first place? Listen to Elizabeth Gilbert's conference on the creative process on YT and see how doubt and fear of failure, whether artistic, critical and economical eats most of us alive. It's not just me sayting it.

As she says more or less: "When I was younger people kept asking me 'aren't you afraid that you're gonna fail as being a writer, that no one's gonna give shit about your books'. My father was an electric engineers and no one ever asked him 'aren't you afraid of being an electric engineer? Aren't you afraid that you're gonna fail at being an electric engineer?' Why so much pressure on us and by both others and ourselves?".

That's the whole point: you non-artists see only the glitters and glory of the very few who make it and you're just plain jealous of our lifestyle and freedom but you keep forgetting not only about the sacrifices and the thousands who don't make it, but also about how fragile most of us are. Many high profile artists, despite their fame and money, are still full of doubts and very vulnerable to criticism. Look at how George Lucas, creator of the most sucessful and acclaimed franchise of all times for chrissakes, was nonetheless hurt by fans' criticisms to the point that he decided to retire.

So yeah sure anyone can say "I don't like that album" and either have the honesty to say "that's just me" or make a constructive criticism with solid arguments.

What makes me sick is:

1/ those people who basically don't know shit about music who come and say "this sucks" just because they don't like it, and because they can't stand the whole world not feeling the same, go on creating threads with titles such as "let's face it..." to try and convince people that their opinion is supreme and that whoever think otherwise is delusional.

2/ those people who just condemn an artist and his work as a whole. Saying you didn't like the last album is one thing, going on saying that basically an artist is washed-up, uninspired, haven't released a single decent song in 20 years... This is so mean, so judgmental.

I think Prince isn't too vulnerable to that anymore but when i think of the horrors I've read here about Andy Allo for example, a young woman, at the beginning of a career that may still be either a success or a failure. It wasn't "I didn't like the album but good luck to her, she's talented nonetheless", it was "that talentless bitch would be better making porn movies than boring us to death with her soulless songs, her stupid lyrics and her atrocious voice". I can't imagine how she must have felt reading this.

Shame on you people. SHAME ON YOU!

That, too.

If there was a new thread every week saying "If I Was You Girlfriend" is the most brilliant song ever composed everyone would go "just shut up, we're tired of seeing new threads about IIWYG". I mean I think N.E.W.S is one of Prince's best albums for example, and I know not so many people agree with me, but I don't go every week creating a thread saying "N.E.W.S is a great album", starting with sentences like "let's face it..." or "it's time to admit the truth" or "don't be delusionnal, you just know that...". If I did people would tell me to shut the fuck up and quit repeating the same shit over and over and they'd be right lol

EXACTLY. So you just proved my point all around....why defend him?? lol

For the 2 reasons stated in the 2 answers right above: out of respect for creative people and out of boredom reading the same things over and over.

Nothing personnal, though, I'm not hating you guys or anything, I'm just condemning what you say but we could just as well discuss this around a beer wink
