Relistening To the stuff I dislike and Haven't listened to

So, Over the years I have heard every single released Prince song but didn't listen to every single one if that Makes sense. Albums Like Prince, Emancipation, Crystall ball, Graffiti Bridge , and TRC are the albums which i haven't listened to that heavily or have skipped over many songs so i decided to go back and listen to them. Starting with Graffiti Bridge and emancipation. What are some albums That yall need to go back to or really haven't listenedt to

On Graffiti Bridge i discovered 3 new songs that i love now. The Question of U, The title song, and Melody Cool.

Emancipation- Courtin Time, Somebody's Somebody. Get your groove on. And still listening to the album.

My only Problem is im too afraid to listen to Crystall ball. Idk why i feel like it's gonna be terrible LOl. I already have heard Crucial, The title song, Hide the bone, Movie star,Dream Factory, P control, and 18 and ova which are the only things ive really heard.

Ik this thread is random and Probably pointless. But is it worth it for me to listen to C not, Chocalate invasion, and Slaughterhouse?

Yes you should listen to them all because there might be a song or two that you will like or that will blow you away.
C note is instrumental btw. Soundcheck recordings. If you like NEWS then you might like this.

It's interesting rediscovering songs that you completely forgot he did, deep catalogue for sure. I was just doing the same thing earlier, randomly playing stuff I hadn't listened to in a while. I wonder if it all will ever be organized and released officially? Another silly question, I know. Such a box set would be maybe too large a project to release comprehensively.

Hey, if you like "Graffiti Bridge" (the song), then you certainly shouldn't be afraid to listen to Crystal Ball. Despite the 90's remixes, there's nothing on there as dreadful as "Everyone wants to find Graffiti Bridge"... wink

I kid. I'm glad we all have different tastes. That's one of his songs that I've just never been able to get into.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

In times like these when Prince is stretching out the time between cds

I go back to the old cds & find songs I never really took a liking to

& give them a new listen. Occasionally I find a gem that I somehow missed.

biggrin

You should listen to Crystal Ball.

I'm like this with the Rainbow Children, Planet Earth, and New Power Soul. I've technically listened to them, but in a way, not really.

I highly recommend Chocolate Invasion. I recently discovered this, and it stayed on repeat in my car for a month.

For me, most of Prince's songs are "growers" meaning that I may not think much of it on first listen, but after the 3rd, 4th or 5th something clicks and I start to "get it".

I remember listening to Musicology for the first time, like every prince album, I had been anxiously awaiting its release. I played thru that cd like 3 times in a row and liked only musicology, illusion coma pimp..., and I wanted to like cinnamon girl but the lyrics were dumb. After a month or so, listening with the headphones and understanding the lyrics, MUCH better album. A million days, man in your life...

20ten took a long time to like as well. Liked 1 or 2 right from the start, but many more grew on me. Walk in sand was ignored at first, but I love it now.

Planet earth. Somewhere here in earth didn't register at first, but is now a favorite.

Etc, etc

Newpowersoul was an instant like for me. The songs have obvious hooks and can be funky. Planet earth is just horrible for me. Other than Chelsea rodgers.

20ten at first listen isn't so bad but it sounded dated to me. It felt like dirty mind and controversy without the dirty mind or controversy. Yes most Prince songs are Growers which in my opinion makes him so awesome . Musicology was an instant like for me. Dear MR. Man, IF eye was, marryin kind, musicology, pimp, life of the party. Love it.

Call me an old fart, but I think albums got more appreciation back in the days of vinyl or cassette where it took some effort to skip tracks. CD diluted this, and now digital just makes an album a collection of files to dip into on a whim.

Suffice to say if Emancipation had been on tape, I'd know it's tracks alot better. Sometimes it's fun to put on something like that and randomly choose something to enjoy in isolation, without listening to any preceeding tracks. It lets the track breathe and you can hear it with fresh ears.

I'm sorry, however, you'll never get me to think that 'Graffitti Bridge' is anything other than borderline embarrassing. I recall at the Manchester Apollo during the ONA tour, he asked for requests. I almost shouted this track out to get a laugh from my fellow fans..and to see Prince's reaction. smile

^ the funny paradox is that I embraced the digital revolution passionately, getting rid of all my cassettes and CD's and having all my music in digital format!

I don't care if I don't like a song on an album, I just go through it. It's not like I'm sitting and doing nothing but listening to it anyway, I'm almost always doing something else at the same time. + it takes a LOT to really irratate me, not likeing a song doesn't mean I DISlike it either. 4 all I know I'm trying to try and feel nothing at things I don't like in life in general, as a general attitude, instead of allowing myself to being upset by shit that ain't worth it. Well, 4 chrissakes I'm even sometimes listening to whole albums that I don't like so much anyway, because I'm such a music fan and u never know when something that u only tolerated so far will suddenly become ur favorite album of the month (it happened to me countless times) lol lol On the other hand I mostly work at home and listen to music almost 24 hours a day, so it's not like my listening time is precious or anything. I guess it's diffrerent 4 people who spend 40 hrs a week at work and have a family and shit, u have little time 2 listen to music so u're gonna ry and optimize it ^^
