Give em' what they love - two thumbs up

First recent Prince recording I have heard in a long long time that I didn't turn off after listening to it for 30 seconds

I haven't liked any of the 3rd eye stuff. The music just sounds so bland and the lyrics are so clumsy. Rock and roll love affair... C'mon Prince. Prince has struggled so badly lyrically ....really for the last decade or more.

However, this song was really good. Lyrics were tight not clumsy or awkward phrasing that seemed to stumble or be out of sync. The fuzzy guitar in he middle of the song. A gritty falsetto that was strong and assertive and yes edgy.

I liked it so much after hearing the preview I actually bought it.

Prince needs keep Janelle close by him

Prince didn't write this song. Blame Janelle Monae & her songwriting partners for the lack of melody.

IMO there is no need to blame anyone for the lack of melody. The song sustains itself despite its lack of melody.

I think lyrically you can tell he didn't write it because the phrasing and delivery of lyrics sounds so good

It's alright. It's a nicely produced track. It sounds cool. But as a son it's sort of meandering and doesn't really add up to much.

I love this track - one of my favorite songs on the whole album. Now if only they would release the official lyrics (which are not included with the CD).

redundant thread. decent song, great VOCAL by P on his verse. but please stop with all the "no melody" ish since Lovesexy or the last decade. lots of stuff to choose from even if overall output has been spotty i mean REALLY. yall do have Lotus, 3121, Musicology right? "Here, Love, "Marrying Kind", etc are all "recent" examples of well written songs with melodies and that's just off the top of the dome. Not sure what some fans on the org be actually ON sometimes

Um. But we're talking about THIS song. The lack of melody isn't really my problem. The melody is fine. I just don't feel like the various parts of this track add up to a song.

yeah, i hear u. i'm aware of what the thread is about, but in reading the first couple of posts in it, that's the nonsense u hear. the song is a bit overrated. i LIKE it and P kills on his verse, but its not this BEAST some are making it out to be
