Trust - Shep Pettibone 12" Extended Remix Figured this could probably use its own thread, since all mentions of it are buried in variuos Batman/remix threads, and apparently it's been leaked awhile now but was a shock to me to find out that it was.
Fortunately, it's not one of Shep's "remix-y" remixes. It's very much based on the original and serves as a true extended version (think "Hot Thing" rather than "Glam Slam"), but with some levels pushed.
And there are new parts.

You think? I like it. It's pretty close to the original. "does my cock look fat in these jeans?" |

I give it a thumbs up. "Trust" was a favorite of mine, anyway, though--and I find this to be mostly in line with the original, just with some extra bits.
I was glad to find out about it. |

are we hearing the same thing? it's mostly instrumental,
filled with samples from the movie and only bits of prince
here and there.
but i never cared for the original so that may be why i'm
not liking this mix.

i think you're hearing the dub. this is another version that's based on the original with some hilarious new parts added by Prince. i love when he sounds demented.
does anyone know what he's saying when he says, "7 on a..." is it "7 on a corner now?"

"7 on a corner now" is what I'm hearing. I have no idea what that means.
I dig this, and it would have been cool if it had been released back in '89. I would never have guessed it's a Pettibone mix though, it doesn't have his trademark snare and synth orch hits. Keep your headphones on. |

Possible an early reference to the "7 Corners" concept. I like the extended version and I can't help thinking damn I miss that Prince. Now all I need from that Batman era is the unreleased "Batdance" with the Big Daddy Kane rap. Has anyone heard that ?

"check please!"
That's the best part for me when it breaks down to that at the end and Prince is
riffin' some silly shit.
I can't figure out if the additional vocals by Prince are just things he
had recorded but muted from the original recording of Trust to make the album
version that Mr. Pettibone ended up bringing out for his mix, or additional vocals
that Prince recorded for the remix.

OMG! Thank you for this thread, otherwise I would have never known about this remix. I did some and found it quite easily. All I gotta say is: THIS is how a Prince remix should be done!!! Just awesome. This and La, La, La, He, Hee, Heee are now my favorite extended mixes. https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast |

I think it went for around $235. That's the first time I heard of the version of "Batdance"with BDK. I have a feeling that the "Trust" remixes that recently started circulating came from that tape. Though they have been in the hands of a collector or 2 since the early 90's when I first heard it. Big Chick |

There's such a thing???
From an interview with John Luongo [source]
. . .
You mentioned to me earlier that you had many unreleased remixes, any special ones you're really sad they where not released? Which and why?
Finally, I did a mix for Prince from the movie Batman and it had Big Daddy Kane rapping on it early into the rap craze. It was fresh and innovative and would have been a hit, if it had been released. It was so different that it spooked people. Better to be ahead of your time than to play follow the leader. © |
