Does Prince get the recognition he deserves? Most would agree Prince is a highly talented musician. However when I read articles on the legends that are still among us I rarely see Prince mentioned. Names such Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and even Madonna appear. Even artists that haven't been around that long get mentioned such as Adele, Oasis and Coldpaly!
I don't understand why Prince is not a given! Can anyone shed light on this? | |

Ever since he left WB he has made himself more of an underground artist that worked directly with his hardcore fans online. He used the power of the Internet to create the best Fanclub I have ever seen an artist do (NPG Music Club). Unfortunately somewhere around Musicology time frame he shunned away from the internet and has just come in and out of the internet with sites that were up one day and then down before you even got used to it. Also the fact that he is blocking all his work from YouTube and many other sites have stopped new fans from discovering him since the days of MTV are over as far as focusing on music. Radio doesn't play songs by artists that aren't on major labels for the most part.
In the end I have to say NO Prince doesn't receive the recognition he deserves, but I believe that the blame for that falls both on Prince and the General Public for not taking the time to look for REAL MUSIC from a Genius.
The last thing I have to say on this topic is that I believe that Prince is doing what he loves to do and has already made his millions and is still making money touring. He doesn't seem to care about being famous, awards, or recognition anymore. But when he does want to be in the spotlight he does it gloriously like he did with the Major comeback on Musicology in 2004 with sell out shows everywhere and the album sold well. So I think when he truly feels like he wants to be in the spotlight and share something with EVERYONE and not just the hardcore fans he does so in a big way like showing up at the Billboard Awards and doing this LOL Tour. |

What thedance and Omey said plus general ignorance. A portion of the population think of Prince as someone who crossed the line with lyrics and visuals....and to them that's all that Prince is about. They've made a judgement and haven't paid any attention to the person, his path, or his music for years. They aren't aware of all of Princes' excellent, outstanding musical skills or much, if any, of his amazing output | |

Michael Dorf organinzed the CARNEGIE HALL TRIBUTE TO PRINCE on March 7th with Questlove as musical director, where his former collaborators and admirerers played his songs and he just received the Billboard Icon Award. If that's not recognition then I don't know what it is. Parliament Funkadelic, Little Richard, and other artists, particularly in jazz, do not get the recognition they deserve. in my opinion....no. Not sure why, but his Artistry is underappreciated to me.
The man is a musical genius. He is a originator. He layed down the path for so many its crazy. I think about it like this: What if Prince never was? His unique sound? His influence within Musicianship? I dont know man....... it just wouldnt b the same.... | |

Prince gets alot of recognition....however, he doesn't get what he deserves, for sure.
He's the G.O.A.T....without question.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind. | |

He is starting to. Music people (hardcore fans/artists) have always known that he is one of the most talented to walk the earth and more than just sex, heels, hair, makeup and ruffles. That said, the general public JUST started catching on. I'd say this started around 2004.

When I wear my Prince t-shirt, I am so often stopped by people who love him. They just need to be reminded. Those who ridicule him, well their loss.

He is not known at all by people under 20 besides Purple Rain, Kiss and popular songs from the 80's. His decision to rebel against the industry has cost him in this sense. My son and I were discussing this a couple of weeks ago while driving out of town and listening to a Prince mix. He is 15 and has heard and knows most of Prince's music through me. Of course, my mixes usually do not contain the popular songs that have been heard a million times. He said that NONE of his friends even know who Prince is. Unfortunately his music has for the most part skipped the teens of the past 20 years and will continue to do so as long as he disallows his music to be played in mainstream and on the internet.That being said, it appears that most artists and musicians know and respect Prince for his musical talents especially as it pertains to being an excellent guitarist, band leader, and showman. I think most recognize him as one of "The Masters" of music. He gets mad love when he appears on award shows. I have seen at least 2 people bow down in his presence when receiving or giving an award to him. | |
