a masculine Prince compilation?

If your goal is to help people who are afraid of androgynous artists and music get into Prince... How would the tracklist look in your opinion? When I was younger People would think I was gay for listening to his music, and now at the age of 27, it's getting better. But people are still put off by his persona, look and voice techniques.

Why the pathological need to "turn" people? If they don't like Prince, move on. shrug

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

As a dj, as a musician, and the analytic person as I am I find it interesting to analyze the psychological aspect of why people like or dislike stuff. I love seing stuff from a sosiopsychological viewpoint. I'm pretty damn sure Prince was very much aware of some of the desicions he made. What kind of reactions he would meet etc. Think about it, he has always been good at both reaching new listeners as well as alienating old fans. His african american fanbase back in the days usually prefered his rnb/funk-style and love The Time when he was doing Purple Rain. Purple Rain gave him alot of new fans, but still many of his rnbfans took a right when he took a left. Even more so did he loose fans with ATWIAD.

It's not my mission to convert people. I'm not religious, even when talking Prince. Actually, I'm pretty damn aware of what I don't love with his music. I just happen to find his music so wide, that it is quite possible that one person might hate some of his music, let love another part.

I will post a list of tracks soon myself.

I'd tend to go the complete opposite method and give them full on multisensory genderfuck black drag queen overload and see if it breaks their tiny minds.

Love your method smile. I live in the cold "white" north called Norway. The country of black metal, folk music and country also loves rock, jazz and classical music, while rnb/funk/soul is quite popular in urban areas if it's either "masculine" enough, or predictable in a "yeah-its-feminine-but-we're-not-aware-of-it" kinda way. Personally I think bands and artists such as Aha sounds way more feminine. Prince music often has a very masculine "predator" kinda undertone, and sometimes a bit sexually agressive. It is of course covered with vulnurable and feminine sensuality.

Just to simplify what I'm asking you... what songs put his masculine undertones more forefront and in your face?

Peach is a good example of more "masculine" wrapping atleast. And Purple Rain was overall pretty damn masculine if just listening to the music, not watching the visuas, and with way less use of falsetto. Sexy MF also a macho beast.

No. Do you expect me to write as if I was having a normal conversation with someone I know that isn't interested in nerdy details about Prince music? I can see how it looks a bit over the top, lol . But I was just trying to put in perspective what I was thinking. I also believe I'm speaking through the internet. Normally I speak Norwegian, so no, this is not how I talk in real life wink. It does make sense now doesn't it? In the United States, does people expect every foreigner to speak english fluently? I don't. I don't even live there. My home country is Norway. So when I write, it might seem forced to someone. But to me it's naivity and clumsyness combined with struggling to get a sentence right. I write fast enough, and thoughts are usually not modified, but the natural flow is probably not sounding improvised enough as I actually have to think a bit more about how I put together sentences, while you probably spit ink on paper and digital letters on the computer screen.

That's the only bootleg track I put on there, I think. But he sounds very masculine on it. Laid back and masculine.

spit Masculine Prince? Honey, that bitch ain't got a masculine bone in his body. Even when he tries to butch it up, it looks fake like a queen going down to the local prison and trying to work the rough trade through the fence.

Thanks for good examples!

If I had to strip down to 10 good songs that show more of his "masculine" side, then it could be something like this...

Musicology
Sexy MF

Money Don't Matter Tonight

5 Women

Peach

Old Friends 4 Sale

7

Joy In Repetiton

There is Lonely

I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man
