That's just it. If you mostly view Prince/music as product to consume instead of art to be enjoyed, you've already set yourself up for disappointment. Already imbued yourself with a sense of entitlement.

We aren't signing ourselves up for a subscription to netflix, ordering a pizza, or buying a new car. We are buying music. There is no money back gurantee on how it's going to make you feel, or not feel, etc.

The upside is, we always free to call the customer complaint line and bitch about Prince all day and night here at prince.org. Don't we have better things to do though?

I agree that Prince's music is art, but he treats it as just a product lately. Get paid first.

.

When Prince hinted that 20Ten would be his last album, sad to say but I was a bit relieved. In a strange way I thought only NOW can I fully absorb this body of work and fully appreciate it.

.

Most musicians release an album every 2-4 years, which means that when their latest album comes out you have about 2 years to absorb it and appreciate it. I think as Prince fans, we don't fully absorb "now" before the "what next" sets in. Again, Prince trained us to act this way, so it's not really our fault.

.

Being a Prince fan is also not "easy". Yes, his music is easy to listen to, but the sheer amount of it makes you an instant collector. 30+ albums is a lot to take in, especially for younger fans who have to go back and find that stuff. I can't imagine discovering his music now and trying to hear it all at once.

Whether you're trying to be funny here or serious it's these types of posts that get us these types of threads. It's like listening to a girlfriend complain about some shit you did to her 4 years, 25 days and 6 hours ago verbatim and you're just like "Huh?" If you have such a severe, longstanding issue with Prince and his practices then why are you still patronizing the business? Even in the case of looking for a laugh it's comes across as something that really bothers the person posting it.

That being said thatnkfully I've yet to meet any whiny fans in person at any event but the tone of this site makes Prince fans seems ungrateful, overly entitled and extremely bitter to the point of being vengeful at times.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Perhaps being one of the most prolific mainstream artists of recent times has made his fans greedy or given them some kind of misguided notion that they are perhaps entitled to new product from Prince.

How about a little bit of love and appreciation for everything he's given us over the years? Yeah, I know he can be a tool at times, but chances are, if you're reading this, Prince has enriched all our lives with his music and I think that should count for something.

& it does ( for me ). I've been a enthusiast since Emancipation Era and my wife ( since 1999 Era ) and I are BOTH Hard-core. I typically don't discet his music to the degree some other 'fans' do but, I have oppinions about the lyrics like we all do

Hmm. Not sure I follow you. Prince makes music/art. Then, he figures out how to get paid before releasing it.

Isn't that how it works for everyone that makes music? Sure, some artists give away their work for free. Prince has done this in the past though too.

He's not? How do you know?

You could look at many moments in Prince's career and accuse him of "coasting." Hell, the linear for in The Gold Experience basically state that he was from 1990 to 1993. Yet, I hear/see many passionate "heart and soul" moments in those years.

Fow what it's worth, Prince mentioned that he love doing what he does for a living because it makes us fans happy, but he loves what he is doing because it makes him happy too. That was what Prince said at the concert on Thursday.

So now it's Prince's fault for having a consistent work ethic over the years. Forget the fact that most fans have spent decades obtaining extra material that wasn't officially released. There's still room for adult responsibilty in being a Prince fan.

I'd love to understand how you inferred, in anything I wrote above, that the fans' sense of entitlement is Prince's fault?
.
If you read it again, what I'm saying is that - as Prince fans - we were "conditioned" to expect a certain stream of music from him.
.
I also stated that his stream of music might have hindered our full appreciation of his music, because we're constantly clamoring for what's next instead of fully absorbing and appreciating what's in front of us now.

From the 'so it's not really our fault' part of your statement. And once again due to bootlegs people were "conditioning themselves" to an unrealistic amount of music from him. At the height of bootleging fans were basically buying at least 3 to 4 albums of Prince music a year. If you only bought official releases then you had more than enough time between them to absorb and appreciate what was in front of you. The conditioning you speak of was/is a self inflicted conditon. If you listened to Prince(regarding bootlegging) then at the most you'd of had to spend a year absorbing a triple CD like Emancipation or to the extreme a 4CD set like Crystal Ball. Otherwise it was around or less than 2 dozen songs a year(factoring in CD tracks, remixes and any b-sides).

I think that, being extremely prolific has been a blessing and a curse for Prince. There's no way that any artist could release that much music and be truly "inspired" everytime.Prince once said that, when he releases a new album and the public is listening to it,he's already onto the next project. There's a good and bad side to that.

I mean, you'd think after 30 years of constant ouput people would be thankful the little man is still around and active.

I will always adore Prince as a music composer whether he gives us pure freakin DOPE ASS funk

or CRAP..

because I know what he is capable of. He can rock my world, and has a thousand times. I have also put the headphones down and shook my head at recent releases.. its what it is.

He cant please all the time and he really doesnt give a shit

Most folks here would just be happy if they'd get their lotusflow3r t-shirt or npgmc Crystal Ball set.

The rest just want their $77 worth.

Sheit that's why I didnt have the gall to even order it with his track record, shouldnt have done it and wait for a while.

The title of this thread shows a misguided sense of reality, a cramped version of perceptions that some of us might not share.

Can somone please change the title so that we do not hurt the feelings of others that might have experienced a sense of entitlement along the way?

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
