Seriously though, I don't get why this bugs people so much: Would you rather he was not releasing anything at all? We all know there will be another album one day, but this is his thing right now. What's the big deal?

You're right, it's not a big deal, it's just when "Screwdriver" came out and the news of the all girl rocker band, I had high hopes for a return to form rock album. Hopefully it still will happen, but I just figured there would be an announcement by now.

We're only 3 months in. Patience, grasshopper.

I just think he's generating interest song by song, seeing how much of it's selling, and go by that on how many copies he's going to put out in the stores. Selling it direct the way he is, is also giving him info on where the fans are at, could take him to countries he hasn't played in before.

i need breakfast can wait on vinyl. even if he just pressed up a couple of hundred on white label 7" and sold them...would be so nice.. ...the DIY music distro model does not need to be internet only & i hope the 3EG stuff does get a physical release

Prince told you all exactly what he was going to do this year, and that's exactly what he's done.

if you don't like the "one song at a time" stratgey, then until there's an album's worth of material out there, download it all at once, and arrange it as the new Prince "album" on your digital player or burned CD.

Bonus - you can name the "album" anything you want.

Of course Prince can do what he wants, but those of us who prefer CDs and vinyls, and whole albums to a bunch of songs, have the right to complain too.

Yes, he told that... but we're so used to his changes that we're getting more nervous each day he keeps being consistent with what he said!

Indeed!

Given that some of the songs on the site are labled as demos and remixes, what ends up on the final CD (assuming there is going to be one, who knows) will probably feature different versions of the songs. I actually kind of like that he's doing it this way. It could be that he's just releasing the "bonus tracks" first.

Imagine if he could have done this with the albums he made in the 80's/early 90's. All those outtakes and alternate versions, in decent quality from the get-go...
