Why "and the NPG"?

It's credited just to Prince.

It seems like he assumes most preachers (priests) are gay.

It seems he assumes most preachers/priests r relatively asexual and content. The word gay means more than one thing. At least Prince thinks so. "u're gay....used to mean U're happy." - Chaos & Disorder. This needs to be put in FAQ so that this pointless discussion has a reason to not come up again.

You really seem to enjoy generating confusion on this site.

This has been discussed many times before and the lyrics are most likely meant to be taken the way NouveauDance already described.

Javi

This was the first time I thought seriously that Prince was losing it. Not with Batman, not with Diamonds And Pearls... With "Peach".

Chapter 14 Warfare

p 192 Possessed: the Rise and Fall of Prince

april 27, 1993: Warner Bros. Records, Burbank, California

Gay(Nona) also became part of another alternative media project, a film called The Undertaker (shot on the Paisley Park soundstage) that featured music interspersed with dramatic footage. Acting in the film along with Gaye was Vanessa Marcil of the daytime soap General Hospital. Using a stripped-down version of the New Power Generation that included only drummer Michael Bland and bassist Sonny Thompson, Prince performed live versions of previously released songs like "Bambi" and "Peach" along with newer numbers like the bluesy "The Ride" and the strong mid-tempo rocker "Dolphin." But while Prince initially planned a full-length feature film, he changed course midway through the project and turned it into a forty-five minute short that focused on music rather than the storyline. A limited edition home video was released in England and Japan in 1995 and became a collector's item.

In the end, projects like The Undertaker were the musical equivalent of busy work, representing nothing more than brief flights of fancy. Bland recalls that the music for the Undertaker was recorded "out of sheer boredom." With little prectical use, these high-cost, low-return endeavors placed a tremendous strain on Prince's finances. After recovering from near-bankruptcy in the late 1980's, Prince had replenished his coffers to some degree, but was now back in trouble.

I don't enjoy creating confusion. I enjoy getting info straight. NouveauDance is incorrect. The phrase even had to have [man] inserted to have it make more sense. A gay preacher is someone happy to be a preacher or priest. These people are usual seen to be above the sin of lust. But this bitch is so hot....he'll happily turn into a sinner for her. Yall turn a simple lyric into some convoluted mess.

Jimmy baker was at some point a gay preacher, as in a man happy and fulfilled by his position....then Tammy got old and he found Jessica....thus turning into a sinner. How is this concept so damn hard to understand. It's not two separate types of people. Gay men and preachers. It's one type of person; a gay(happy) preacher.

How did Jules(Pulp Fiction) put it...."english mutherfucker....do you speak it!"

(Prince absolutely doesn't assume that all preachers are gay - at all. Read the lyrics.)

I don't like the song.

I never liked it. Same reason why I don't like 'U Got The Look' all that much either - although it's a much better song then 'Peach'. But it fits well on SOTT though.

Would love to hear a version without that squeaking and squealing horrible Sheena Easton !

That duet with Sheena isn't cool or sexy at all.
He should've done it with Sheila E, or Jill Jones or Kim Bassinger.
But then again, Sheena Easton made him write ''La, La, La, He He Hee'' which is stunning.

The ZZ-top-ish sound isn't Prince. At least not for me.

The lyrics of 'Peach' are ok, kind of cool even. Make a totally different funky song of it with the same chords and all, and I might like it much more.

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

"Peach" was the first song I ever heard Prince play live. It was the opening song in the April 29, 2002 soundcheck at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. P and the band just KILLED it, and I was blown away! I've been crazy about the song ever since. headbang guitar headbang

^ I remember that performance on European Music Awards very well, I had this recorded the premiere night on VHS video tape..

.

the long (and direct) version, including the prince & NPG arrival, this was later cut off on MTV.

.

I remember Mayte was tryin to "crowd surf" -- but what the hell!!!!!

.

people were moving and she fell from stage to the floor, how cruel. I heard she bit herself in the tongue....

.

"Peach" isn't among my favorites, but this performance was fantastic, very COOL, Including an instrummental version of the song "Chaos & Disorder".

.

cool music
