I didn't like Prince's hair on the Jimmy Fallon show. It just didn't look right on him and it made him look older and tired. His afro looked better on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Hopefully this afro thing will pass soon. But DAMN his performance on the Jimmy Fallon show was Magnificent!

Why? If he wants to wear his hair in its natural state, then why not? He'll be the same musician, with or without the 'fro.

Skywalker, you can tell us. Are the Prince.org naysayers holding you hostage and threatening to burn your mint copies of "Adore" and anything else that reminds them that Prince is black? Wink one time for yes, and we'll rescue you.

*

Okay, seriously, I like the 'fro. I get what you saying that it could be shaped better, but as a man who hasn't cut his hair since the 90s even though one side of my ‘fro is clearly longer than the other side, I don't understand your point??? Ultimately, I think Prince is doing with his hair what he has always done with his hair and everything else, pushing his own boundaries of whom and what he is. He's explored just about every other type of hair style except the unkempt 'fro. Maybe it's meant to be a bit untamed to represent where he is aesthetically and ideologically. I'm just guessing, but for whatever reason it seems to work for me.

*

Now, using Morse Code, let us know if you are being tortured by the naysayers, and we'll set it off all up in here!!!!

*

...now if you're doing this because you don' got yo'self one of dem good white peoples' jobs, then ignore everything that I've just typed and keep yo' benefits brother.

smile Too funny.

Again, I got no problem with Prince having a fro. It was just looking rough on Fallon and unflattering to his face.

Prince just had his hair straight at the Grammys. What was that, 2 weeks ago?

P is a Gemini. Funky Prince will wear his hair straight with heels, suited and booted.

Rock Prince will wear sleep mask shades, and the 'fro.

I think he will alternate, just as he's done for the past half year. shrug

Just because it was straight doesn't mean he had a perm. He could've just flat ironed it, and curled it.

Very true. (Bolded parts) You can do that with natural hair similar to Prince's hair texture. You can straighten it with a flat iron, electric pressing comb, etc., and curl it into a semi-type 'fro one day, then wash it, blow it out, with a blow dryer to expand it to a different hairstyle (whether pressed/curled/natural). Usually when hair textures, similar to Prince's is washed, the hair may appear shorter in length, unless other methods of styling is used to expand it. Also, when not permed, but worn straightened by pressing, regardless of which non-permed method used, in humid/rainy/cool weather or by sweating, the hairstyle may become frizzy/more voluminous or sometimes flatten/shrink in size. Depending on texture of hair.

I think that's why some folks, not familiar with natural hair textures, such as Prince's, get confused and assume it may not be his;because they're not familiar with the various textures of Black Americans' and other persons of color hair types. If you are familiar with it, you can clearly see it's his natural hair texture with the afro.

I think so many of his fans have become used to his hair worn 'straightened', that it will take a while before many of them get used to him wearing his hair in its natural state.

[Edited 3/2/13 20:10pm]

Exactly nod Perfect breakdown.

At the Chicago shows, Prince wore both the straight style and the 'fro during the same run.

It must be quite troublesome for Prince to find a new hairstyle, as he seems to have an alopecia

I wonder, if he cut it short, and keep it natural, wouldn't he look better?

Let it grown without any cream, lotion, perfume

Eat dried almost, food cooked with olive oil

Eat much fish.. Sushis are very good for nails and hair

There are no bald spots... what they are seeing are grey roots on dark brown tinted hair.

If Prince were going bald his forehead would be bigger, temples way more pronounced. They don't know.

Ain't a damn thing wrong with a fro. You can argue whether he needs to shape it or not... But, the real bias is against natural hair. Period. wink razz lol

I am so proud of this thread. Rarely do I start a thread about the more superficial side of Prince fandom, but this one went on longer than I anticipated. I'd like to thank you all for making it all possible.

fro

Again, just to clarify. I dig Prince's natural look and his fros of the past. In fact, when I saw him at the Dakota Jazz Club I was literally 10 feet from him and his fro was stellar. Just something frumpy and unfresh about the Fallonfro.

I think the imperfect fro is very intentional, and very retro. BUT I think he should also go for the Lovesexy era less eyemakeup and more natural brows (check the album cover for his most natural eyes and brows look). The alphabet St video is the next runner up for least eyliner and shaped eyebrow look.

(Bolded part)I'm so glad somebody finally said it, because that's what it seems to be about. With all the hoopla about his hair on this thread, you'd think the man has to ask his fans' permission to put on his socks and shoes before leaving his house. lol

Mick Jagger's hair has been a mess for years, and no one makes a big deal when one strand of his hair goes in a different direction, during a tv appearance.

Keep rockin' that 'fro Prince whenever and however you choose to. It's your hair, where it as you like it. End of story. fro

Thank you! People have been giving me bad advice about my difficult, untameable hair for decades...Every time I listen to them I end up with a disaster... LOL LOVE YOUR OWN HAIR what ever it is--your NATURAL hair--and work a style that works for you! I think Prince looks great with the fro or without it. That's all. wink P.S. Mine is very thick--I think that bodes well for old age. lol
