So.do u think P & his all girl band can take out Jack Whites all girl band?..

..not a frickin chance!.

First off Jack has great songs, his lyrics are mature and deep, his guitar totally and utterly kills and the ladies in the band totally and utterly rock. Check this out...and just enjoy it.

http://www.youtube.com/wa...w9amJbgRCc

and then come back and tell me that you'd rather listen to LOL [Oh the friggin irony!!], Bambi live and the embarrassment that is ScrewDriver[fuckme he's 53!!!].

This ain't a bait thread ....it's just an IMHO..based on...fact!!!lol

no they cant. Jack White is fantastic. To play with two bands and change within a song was pretty remarkable. Prince's band, but i only saw a few clips, is a band with mediocre musicians. But perhaps i am wrong and they surprise me this summer...

Well, if they are all lesbian, they might go out with them. Seriously...the band is ok. Prince would rather have a gimmick with an all girl band, than go after the best musicians possible. Prince of course, would never pay the best musicians possible anyway, so I gotta quit dreaming.

If Live Out Loud is anything to go by, they couldn't take on Jem & The Holograms.

I didnt' see any Tamar. I thought that was Ruby Amanfu -- the woman who performed spectacularly with him at the Grammys. I don't think she seems remotely like Tamar ...should I watch the video again?

a couple of things.....

  • tired of people bashing my little fun ditty Screwdriver. It's not trying to be great. It just wants to be. It's not hurting anybody. sad

  • just became a fan of Jack White after the Grammys and man ... his music is an intense experience and I appreciate that. That band would totally kick 3rd Eye Girl's azz. I love his song concepts, titles, lyrics and instrumentation -- it's just so far beyond what Prince is putting out right now.

I mean just conceptually Jack White is sooo much better than this incarnation of Prince that is being encouraged by all these stans on this site protecting Princey from legitimate criticism.

  • Plus, I like that White's band has at least a little diversity. I like Donna a lot and I like her with Prince, but I haven't been able to connect to the other two yet. So, I'm not really feeling the composite of 3rd Eye Girl and that LOL song was ... confused so if 3rd Eye will be doing that, no thanks. Screwdriver isn't in the same league as Jack White's songs ...which is fucking sad considering the creator.

P.S. I think he should reconfigure 3rd Eye Girl. Keep Donna on guitar, Add Sheila E drums, and who else? I don't know. Be he needs the chemistry and elevation of Sheila E in his life. I know they have some tension from time to time, but that's good for him. Based on Screwdriver Live the chemistry factor is definitely missing with this new band.

thats the trouble with threads like mine...just want people to take off their purple tinted specs and see what else is out there. P has got the image right with this new all girl band but the music thus far sucks. Will able able to make a call on it when / if an album hits and hopefully they do some proper live performances. Have to give P huge props though for working with younger, unknown musicians..it's what a lot of us wanted him to do...hopefully he will give them a voice like W&L had?

no, of course not.

Jack White's band is better.

However, I don't think this all-girl band is complete, is it? I'm assuming their just the girl faction in the greater NPG, consisting of boys and other seasoned musicians, no?

If not, and this is the new stripped down npg lineup, it'll be one of the most (if not the most) oddly limiting bands Prince has ever had.

The trouble with threads like this is not that you are forcing Prince fans into some new perspective, or that you are pushing Prince fans to think outside the box.

It's that the title of the thread is a question and invitation to a dialog/discussion, but your actual post is very combative and is basically you looking for a fight. Like I said, bait.

I like Jack White a lot, and I would love to talk the merits of Jack White's current thing against Prince's current thing. However, it's hard to do so when you kick off a thread by sticking your fingers in your ears while threatening to slap disagreeing people in the mouth.

What do you mean by this statement? You can't give someone a voice, they either have a voice or they don't. Wendy and LIsa are really strong characters and were not molded by Prince in the way his other proteges were. If anything, they helped him refine his voice.

But perhaps I am interpreting "voice" and "give" in a different way than you intended??.

Do you mean let them have a good measure of control, performance time and influence so the voice can come through? I think he is already allowing Donna a good amount of presence. The question is what does she have to say? Wendy & LIsa had very strong identity and perspective.

P.S. Debate inherently has opposition. I don't ksee why people are so sensitive about provocation. It's not like it's malicious.

fair point..it's more about control & influence. That said W&L were/are highly accomplished musicians / composers etc so he felt comfortable giving over production for some of the Parade tracks to them for example. I suspect this new power trio is more of a one off project.

Not really diggin' that Jack White noise, different strokes for different folks I guess, I don't think the new 3rdeyegirl stuff is amazing but I do prefer it to Jack White's all girl band and Prince owns Jack when it comes to guitar playing...Fact! lol

No. I said you can't give someone a voice. I never said W&L gave Prince a voice. I said they helped him refine it, particularly as he expressed his voice in the song writing and figurative language.

What don't you understand about the difference between giving someone a voice and helping them refine a voice that already exista?

(It's not just you, most people on this board can't distinguish between fine points. It's exasperating )

Jack is definitely on his game, and has a great bunch of musicians along for the ride (female and male). This video is way cool, his female and male bands facing off...

It's well thought out and executed, way better than the Screwdriver live video recently. I'm not ready to write off Prince completely, but he could put more effort into conceptualizing his projects. Still, I will tune in tonight to Jimmy Fallon and see what Prince is up to. I hope he wrecks shop.

What a character and eveything is so effortless. If Jack read the boards I'm certian he would piss his pants from sheer glee. :gush:
