I've just seen it myself and have to agree. Screwdriver made my skin crawl but I don't rate the song anyway. Bambi wasn't all that for me either. People fawn over him holding a note on a pedal sometimes. I don't think Ps the greatest guitarist in the world. I LOVE the way he plays but technically he aint the best. I don't just mean on the Fallon thing either.
I had a better time listening to Aint Gon Miss U and Down etc.

Bitch, bitch, bitch. Suprise, there are people who like things that you don't. You act like your opinions are facts. There not. Goodnight, sweet Prince.

I thought both performances were excellent. They raw, clearly rehearsed but raw. Nice to see this rough side of Prince for a change instead sometimes of the over produced Prince.

You should listen to TrevorArser's music and you'd understand. He is a complete crap musician full of himself, totally delusional who comes here pretending his guitar tone is something out of this world while he plays like a eleven years old trying his first chords. This man has no ear and no taste. So skip him.

I loved the performance. Kind of the cocky bad ass Prince I remember. I also like the fact the band members look interesting and not like some conservative guys in suits. I can understand how some don't appreciate the song Screw driver, due to some cheesy lyrics, but it's still a kick ass song to me especially live. I'm with many, I'm not much a fan of the Afro. I think he should go back to the perm.

Musicians invest way too much into their gear. The money usually goes beyond the purchase of the instrument itself into personalizing its hardware and electronics.
I think Kirk should sue the mess outta Prince. Prince has filed suits for far less justified crap.

I love Prince to death, but I've felt a little disappointed by his new music. Screwdriver was mediocre at best and when they started playing "Bambi" I thought, "This actually sounds really good," and then I realized it was Bambi. :p I miss the funk and the jazz. :/ They sure rocked Bambi though...well, probably as best as they could. I still prefer the live recording of it at the Tokyo Dome in 1990. What is your main problem?
To whom it may concern: I love you! Humankind..be both.

LOL! The 1st words outta my mouth was "Wow, something here reminds me of Phil Lynott"
Glad I'm not the only one.
Was it his best performance or show of musicianship? No, but very effective. It was raw and there was no lack of energy about it. I enjoyed it! "Hey, I got the butta 4 ya muffin, honey.. I'm just 2 old 2 hold the knife!"

Bambi was smokin'!
Best part for me (go back and watch it again), look at Mariah's face when Jimmy kept shouting "Prince!!, Prince!!! She gives him a look like, okay enough, (What about me??)!
Not a good forum to have such big ego's in the same room!!

That's pretty much all he's been doing for the past 15 years. He suddenly switches things up for a moment, and it's a problem? Shiiiiit

Prince, you're 55 this year. Act like it. He's a rock legend, and he's acting like one. Be happy.

Totally disagree!
I think that he looked the youngest & `freshest` i`ve seen in a long time. The more natural look really suits him. The afro is cool & funky, much better than the Little Richard hairpieces. His skin looked flawless, much better than being caked in thick make up. His clothes were hip, much better than the suits, chest hair & medallions!!
Even tho I prefer funky Prince over rock Prince I thought the performanes were great. He smashed it as always. Never a dull moment in Prince world! I do feel that 3rdeyegirl as a touring unit would need more practice/experience. Will be interesting to see if they beome his main backing band.
More practice? I thought they tore it up with him. Guess I'd have to have somebody break down the performance for me and point out all the missteps..... I`d personally love 2 see Michael B, Sonny T, Morris Hayes & Rosie Gaines return. With Sheila & Eric Leeds thrown into the mix. That would be my dream line up! [Edited 3/2/13 16:18pm]

Loved the 'Bambi' performance. Prince rocked that guitar. Let's just say that Jimi would have been awestruck by Prince's guitar playing in that song. It has such a bluesy-rock, scream feel to it.

don't really understand why Jimmy had Mariah on the show. How can U have two artist on one show? One MEGA ROCK GOD LEGEND & the other one. Not saying Mariah can't sing & is not a descent songwriter. But everyone was their waiting 4 Prince 2 make a royal entrance not Mariah. I bet they never even spoke or saw eachother . Mariah is just dying 4 Prince 2 give her one of his "MasterPieces" 2 record...
[Edited 3/2/13 16:49pm] will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Screwdriver was boring, doesn't even sound good live. you noticed the audience reaction. Bambi was outstanding as usual and the crowd loved it. Of course no interview, Prince still thinks its 1982

i think it was intentional vocal variation. he wasn't trying to vocally deliver the recorded versions of either. when he WANTS to show off his vocals, he does

Well i missed last nights performance but i got on the okplayer website and checked out the video.
Personally i thought the performance was pretty damn good. The girls were a little off in places but overall i thought it was a rockin performance.
A couple things. Someone mentioned the guitar player sounding kinda off on her bends and i have to agree. I liked the bass player and the drummer sounds pretty decent. I think with a little more rehearsing this band can gel into something tight and hard rockin. I'm curious to see what Prince And The Girls could do with some of the songs from the Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy and Purple Rain albums.
As far as Prince's performance. I thought his solo on bambi rocked and overall his singing was good. Singing in a falsetto has to be hard on the vocal cords so i thought he sounded a little better on screwdriver than bambi.
It seems a few people don't think much of the new band, some of the new songs or the jimmy performance and that's OK. People like what they like. We should all know by now that Prince does what he wants so its utterly useless to spend time wondering why he does or doesn't do certain things.
P.S Prince looks like he's gaining weight. His face looks fuller.
[Edited 3/2/13 20:28pm] Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Well, you have to remember that even though Mariah Carey is one of the biggest stars in the music business, she is on the tail end of her career, and she was appearing on the show as a reality TV personality and not the uber diva she once was. In fact, Jimmy asked her if she had ever recorded anything with Prince, and she said that she had not, though she would love to do so. Now as much as I love both Mariah and Prince, if she ever tried to work with him with that diva attitude she has, he'd say, "Bitch, please," and laugh her out of the room.

If I'm understanding you correctly, that was Kirk's guitar (Fallons house guitar player) that Prince threw up in the air and let slam to ground? Maybe Kirk told him it was ok to do that? Or it could have been all staged, he plays a guitar Prince gave him before the show to make like it was his and then later get the guitar fall to the ground? If not, if that was really Kirk's guitar and he didn't give him the ok to do that, well then that was really trifiling of P to do that?!?
