I like Dance 4 Me because it makes me feel like I'm in that club, 'The Taste', from Purple Rain. biggrin

I actually like quite a bit of this album, with the exception of Chocolate Box - you just can't sing about socks. Nope. hmph!

i dug out mplsound last night and listened to it...i have played lotusflower many times and think its a very good prince album..if not a classic . after listening to mplsound...the only tracks i would give pass marks and keep would be "dance 4 me" ... "old skool company"..."no more candy 4 u" and maybe "better with time"...the rest is average to poor now a bit of time has passed to judge it better...his poorest album since rave imo...

Agree 100% i always disliked this album, just never felt anything for it, i think u gave it more credit than i ever did, people were worshipping this thing when it came out basically cause he used old instruments from early records but honestly the songs were so over produced and plastic, it was worse than Rave to me.

It's kind of all over the place for me. A weird mix of sincere and genuine sentiments (Here, Better with Time) with breathtaking arrogance ( Never B Another...etc..) One of his least cohesive.

Lotus, on the other hand, in my top 5. razz

Aside from Animal Kingdom, I absolutely agree.

terrible. This album showed he had no idea how to get back to a sound he created.

...and it still sucks. Sorry, but this has to be the worst thing he ever recorded. It makes New Power Soul sound like Sign O The Times. There's like 2...maybe 3 tracks that are listenable.

Another Like Me might be worse than the Jughead lyrics rapped to the beat of Work The P.

That is all.

this is a little better. timely. only a few songs with him professing his love for other men. not that there's anything wrong that. "working at the pyramid". was he a bouncer or some shit? shrug

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I enjoyed this album. like i do most of his work. "better with time" is such a amazing song. well written, beautiful production, and great vocal performance. along with "ur gonna see me" wich is also a pleasure to listen to. songs like "another like me", "ol school company", "valentina" and "dance 4 me" are quite fun and i consider them good songs. in all honesty now in retrospect every song have a good quality about it and this is indeed a very good album. much better than the follow up "20ten".

I enjoy this album, then again I don;t share the burning hatred for NPS that everyone on this board does either. No love in this thread for Valentina?

"Here" is stronger than some tracks on "Parade". I would definitely think that if I listened to both for the first time right now.

I also think "No More Candy 4 U" is just as good as the quirky songs on "Controversy" like "Annie Christian" or "JAck U Off". It could have been a much loved b-side from that era (arrangement and production and attitude-wise)

I don't get the love for "Old Skool Company". It sounds modern and plastic to me.

I also don't get the hate for "Never B Another Like Me". It falls right into the shockingly minimal, braggart, novelty songs he's made kind of like "Moviestar" (which is a high point of genius) or "Poom Poom".

I was right there with you until the last two words

I didn't say Poom Poom was genius... I said Moviestar was genius. lol

He might be friends with Salma and her hubby, but i find this song just plain weird and borderline stalkerish.

I personally love this track. I admit there's something slightly "Cindy C"-ish (in intention, not sound), but it's cool.

I don't understand the level of loathing this album receives - and equally I don't understand the love that Lotusflower receives. They're both unfocussed albums with some duff tracks, but between them they make one solid album.

Love that CD. Dag near wore that sucka out for a long time after it came out. "Here'' was the key to unlocking that entire disc for me. Took a couple of listens before "Here'' became my favorite, and the rest of the CD flowed so well.

It's better than LotusFlow3r to me. Each CD has a few tracks that slow me down, but both are good.

All love.

I love it. It's also my wife's favourite track on the album.

Adorecream

Blackbob, you need to give it more chance, I love every song on the album, the ballads are great, I did not like them initially but love them now, Ol Skool Company is the coolest thing he's done in ages, and the 3 booty shakers at the start liven things up. Valentina brings the cream, its his 3rd best after 1990, only The Gold Experience and 3121 are better in my eyes.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
