I'll go sit down in a minute because I know that you feel its blasphemy. But trust..some folks were not feeling no damn Raspberry Beret lol....or When You Were Mine..know what they were bumpin in 82? Lady Cab Driver over n over. Thats just an example that even back in the heyday, a lot of folks were not down with the pretty pop songs. Hell, yall cant even stand them now when he does the Raspberry Beret Take Me With U medley etc and no its not just because he does it all the time either..its because they are kind of RNRLA wackness when yall crave LCD etc..of course yall wont ever admit to that. And thats okay..thats OKAY (SHOE)...now veofre yall think Im going off the deep end they are decent 'pop' songs and some f the recent releases have just as good as pop songs as those...nobody will ever admit to that ..but until we do we will always be forever blinded, not by the light, but by the past/deeds blocking our view.

Nobody feels me though but Im okay with that.

I get what you're saying I just don't agree with it.

I wasn't bumpin LCD in '82, not in England we weren't anyway. Shit loads of 1999, LRC maybe. Raspberry beret was a hit over here too. Can't remember where it charted and all that shit but a lotta people loved it.

I don't mind him playing that shit today. A bit. Even though I've heard em a million times. Why? Cos they're decent songs. Do you think R&Rse etc. will have a similar lifespan? Course you don't. Shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as anything like RasB or It.

You can come out of the corner now but only to listen to the tunes you pulled up. Id say a few 'hail newkingintowns' too, just to be on the safe side.

I agree with you RdHull. What you said made sense. If he came out with Rasberry Beret or Take Me With U today as a single they'd get little to no airplay. I was one of those jamming to LCD back in the day over songs like what made it to Top 40 radio.

Those songs back in the day were put out during a period of musical identity, where so many artists had a unique sound to them, such as MJ, Madonna, Springstein, Annie Lennox, etc. The songs were original sounding. When the mid to late 80s hit and the likes of Crowded House and Terence Trent D'Arby came around his stuff wasn't as fresh anymore because people were emulating his "sound".

If he were to debut today as an unknown artist with the likes of "Let's Go Crazy", "Rasberry Beret", "If I Was Ur Girlfriend", and as much as I hate listing it but "Purple Rain", he would not have been the wild, in-our-face musician he was in his heyday. Things hit at just the right time and clicks. These songs are examples of those. Imagine hearing PR on the radio today, for the very first time, and the DJ says "Here's a new song from the new kid from Minneapolis, Prince". These would not have the strength to survive today's market.

I took it that RodHull was on about what they were playing or 'bumpin' on the radio wasn't he/she? I wasn't just playing the singles myself back then, not at all. The radio was.

I don't agree with your take on 'his sound'. It quite often changed from tune to tune, or album to album. Think PRain then ATWIAD. Parade to SOTT then Lovesexy. (Mid to late 80s). As for the radio play, if we heard Let's Go Crazy or PRain for the first time today we'd all go WTF is this 80s sounding stuff, wouldn't we? It's impossible to say. For what it's worth though, I reckon IIWYG doesn't sound as dated and may have done well today but who knows. It'd have to do better than this last effort.
