Happy 30th Anniversary "1999". Revised

Damn I am old, I did a topic earlier this yr on 1 of the most influential albums from any artist which is "1999" by some guy called Prince....ever heard of him? Lol As I stated already I was only about 11 or 12yrs old at the time and not really a fan just yet I did however like a few cuts(I Wanna Be Your Lover)( Dirty Mind) B4 he released this landmark album. I do remember this song on the radio about partying like it's 1999 which was years from Oct 1982 and I didnt quite get Prince back then but I loved the beat, chorus, and the way he involved his band Pre-Revolution, well he did put the name the Revolution in the artwork of the album.

As I stated I heard 1999 4 a while and even heard ppl singing it but what really made me fall "in like" with this album was a nasty little tune called "Little Red Corvette" which by the way is not about a car at all Lol found that out 7 yrs later. I heard those 2 songs on the radio pop and R&B stations, when u heard a variety of jams not just the same corny ass 10 in a row...anyway back 2 the lecture at hand ....I really loved the videos 4 both which I saw on B.E.T OR "Friday Night Videos" or New York Hot Trax. MTV which now stands 4 Moron Television or Maturnity Tell-Lies Vision was not having anything DARKER THAN A NAPKIN on their channel at the time not 1 Black Arist as they were called back then was played.

Rick James Ironically a foe of Prince was 1 of the key voices in getn some color on that channel.

Of course Michael Jackson and Prince were the 1st 2 to get love from MTV so the video and album were just the pre stages 2 what was 2 come from Prince a year and half later.

1999 was the sound, the look, the style, the sex of what Prince always had in mind and he did it with 1999 which again to me is 1 of his best works of art and an album that is a classic regardless of what style of music it mixed Rock, R&B, electronica really innnovative sounds. In closing I want 2 say Happy 30th 2 "1999" Prince u did ur thing on this 1. Can we get some more of that kind of work? So let's party again untill it's 1999 all over again. cool

Here's your previous thread from April:

http://prince.org/msg/7/380168

Coincidentally, another thread on this subject was aslo started earlier today:

http://prince.org/msg/7/389194

Can I therefore suggest that you post your above contribution to that thread, and also link to your previous thread, so that people can also refer to earlier thoughts, and we don't have two current competing threads on the same subject? Just let me know if the links don't work and I'll fix them.

Thanks
