Prince and the Revolution live 1985, Syracuse NY

Does anyone know if this was officailly released on VHS or DVD? ,i suspect not as i can't find anything on Amazon?. Although it looks really good quality, like it was officially recorded. This is maybe the best Prince concert i have seen, he is in his absolute prime, would love to have copy of this...

Yeah I'm sure this is the VHS 2 cassette box set. I played it to death in my teens and still have it somewhere. Makes me sound old!

it was on a VHS and BETA in the US and on Laserdisc too. Not sure about DVD.

It was 1 tape in the US on VHS and Betamax.

it was in 2 tapes in the UK (as was Lovesexy live in the UK)

it was also released on Laserdisc in the US

I am pretty sure the DVDs are not offical.

The concert has never been officially released on dvd so please don't pay for it.

More info here http://www.princevault.co...ouble_Live

One of the best quaility unofficial versions is this http://main.thedigitalgar...world.html which has both remastered sound and video.

I still have the US VHS copy of this. Imagine my surpise when I went into a wrecka stow in July 1985 and saw this sitting on the shelf. Went home immediately and I don't think I left the house for the rest of the summer! lol At the time the only place to get info on releases were magazines, and they were usually a month behind (unless it was Billboard or Rolling Stone). The Purple Rain show I saw was two days after this concert was filmed. Luckily I had talked my parents into buying a VCR a few months earlier, basically so I could watch Purple Rain the movie over and over. They were not cheap back then, around 600.00. Still hate the mirrored effect on When Doves Cry though!

the 2 parts I remember the most are:

in the intro to Let's Go Crazy it is dark and then the light come on and BAM!

and second: he is playing the piano and he knocks over his stool and a stage hand runs up and puts it back upright and Prince grins and kicks it back over. ( anyone know what song that was??)

I will look if can ! wink

yup! Thanks thanks thanks! That was it!! (46:20 ish in just after the Orgasm bit) Classic Playful Prince. He looks back at the guy and kicks it back over.

(like in the America video when the guy grabs his coat and Prince plays along and takes it off and then the security can be seen running over to the guy)

Never understood why they did this either.

You SHOULD be able to find it WITHOUT the mirrored effect somewhere (online), as it wasn't shown like this when it was televised live.

I know, cause I taped it! smile

I walked into a local Target store in 1985 and saw the videotape and my jaw dropped! I had no idea that it had been released. The Tour didn't make it to my hometown, and I missed the live TV simulcast. The problem was that we didn't own a VCR (which you could get $299, but that was a lot of money to us). I eventually bought the tape anyway, and finally got to see it when I visited my older sister later that year (she had a VCR, though sadly still lacks an appreciation for Prince). It was the first Prince show I ever saw and I was mesmerized. My only disappointment were that Take Me With U wasn't as guitar-heavy as the live promo video had been and that they mirrored When Doves Cry uncessarily. But it is right up there with Dortmund '88 video in terms of must see (and why on Earth did we not get that video in the US? I would have killed for that in 1989! Grrrr!).

As said earlier, this was released on both Beta and VHS as well as Laserdisc. Pirates have released a DVD of the Laserdisc, and it has been posted elsewhere over the years. Prince needs to release a several DVD/Bluray set of live shows from over the years, including this one. But then Prince needs to do a lot of things. Those of you with a $77 charge on your credit card from 2009 know exactly what I mean. (I "got off the boat" after the CBPF (Crystal Ball Preorder Fiasco) and was fortunately enough to miss out on all the broken promises - and near fraud - of this century).

umfufu1

I still have the original Rockpalast recording from back then; 3 big advantages over the video; (1) 1 sheila e song, (2) lacks the stupid when doves cry mirror scenes line the video and (3) starts with wasted broadcast chick "and now prince and the revolution whoooowhoooo" wink
