Well after publicly making out with Al Gore like she wanted to fuck him on the spot I doubt she cares anymore. smile Same thing with her daughter who allegedly inspired that PMRC movement. biggrin

Who would have thought at the time that PR would be considered a national artistic treature?

Congrats - he's becoming an "elder statesman." Next up, the Kennedy Center Honors?

Hopefully, he deserves to be officially honored by his country. How many Americans have had as big an impact on not just American culture, but in music in general as Prince? Love to see it happen during Obama's second term to really piss of conservatives. lol

And Al Gore, Tipper and his daughters there to introduce him would be cool.

This is great news. But does anyone else think that Dirty Mind is equally deserving for its impact on synthpop?

Like a lot of fans, I agree that Dirty Mind is where Prince "found his sound." I don't personally think it is better than any of his albums from Controversy thru G Bridge. A lot of his keyboard sounds back then sounded like either The Doors or the Munsters theme(When You Were Mine, Gotta Stop Messin' About.) Purple Rain likely deserves this honor even though I like SOTT better. Sometimes national recognition goes to albums that were a bit more commercial with mass appeal. I even think PR and 1999 were more consistent than SOTT, since they don't have anything I thought was throwaway(Beautiful Night), but to me, the strengths of SOTT outweigh any other Prince album.

Why not? He showed up for the RRHOF induction. He usually shows up to pick up awards and honors. It's not like "We Are the World" or "The Voice." smile

IMHO I think 'Sign 'o' the Times' should've or should b considered as well.

Purple Rain sold at least 9 million in its first 9 months of release, and maybe around 14 million total. Sales figures don't mean too much to me, but for recoginition and awards, it usually figures a bit.

SOTT sold anywhere from 500,000 to a million in 25 years of release, depending on how you interpret RIAA sales figures for double albums. To the hard core Prince fan, it is either their favorite or close to it. For the casual fan, most don't own it. SOTT as great as it was, is no better than his 10th or 11th best selling album. Following Up Under The Cherry Moon's dust on Prince's career could not have possibly helped sell SOTT, as it being a double album magnified it. As if those were not enough strikes against SOTT, Poor single choices, and not touring for it in the USA was the death blow. When you also figure it was his 4th straight year with an album, the market was flooded.

Great news, bet Prince is honoured.

Now as a gesture, it would be nice to release a polished version of the new accoustic long version from one of the concerts as a 'shout out to all his fans for their support over the years' cool
