A Heaven We Can/Can't Believe In, OSC lyric??

Is it me, or does anyone else think he's saying a heaven we CAN'T believe in during the lyric in question on OSC? I don't recall this getting any traction here at all, but I think we assume he's saying CAN.

If I'm not mistaken the JW's belief on heaven is that the 144,000 number of inhabitants has been reached already and those of us living now can only hope for an earthly reign with Christ, acheived by going door to door, doing "the work". So therefore we CAN'T believe in heaven cause for us, its unattainable. I know a huge amount of folk here don't care and are atheist, agnostic, etc, so spare me your vitriol. But for those familiar with traditional Christian doctrine and possibly what the JW's believe, I'm curious as to whether anyone else interpreted this line this way. Thanks

Ol' School Company

...Lift you up to heaven, a heaven you can believe in.

It's can IMHO the whole song is a positive one about the feeling music gives you, no real hidden religious agenda I reckon.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

we all know these days with prince, spiritual references are ANYTHING but arbitrary. even if he's not always trying to be theological or DEEP per se, the lyrics are intentional and not happenstance.

its cool to say, IDK

Ok, I listened to the song. Have it but am saving it for a rainy day when I'm looking for new music.

Why would Prince suddenly say a heaven u can't believe in when he's always spoken about heaven?

I don't interpret it that way. But hey anything is possible.

I think the remants of the 144 K for JWs will join those already in heaven, but the 144 no. is quite common in Christian doctrine too and apparently also in Mayan history. Revelations mentions the number a few times. It would be pretty sad if only that amount make it coz I'm sure by now in history the amount has already been met and what about all those beautiful people still to be born?

But it's just numbers and personally I don't think any organised religion or human can truely predict the end of time or for that matter, truely understand the complexity or the concept of God. We try but it is beyond us and perhaps meant only for when we no longer need our body. However, life to my mind is too miraculous to support only life on Earth. Who knows what exists which humans cannot perceive on planets throughout the rest of the galaxy. Hopefully all the rockers will have their own noisy planet. lol Or a planet for every religion and the sun for non-believers.

No, I don't believe in hell, I believe in natural law (supernaturally driven) and we will all go where we need to go in order to evolve and eventuaolly become perhaps, part of the element we choose, to serve life (God) eternally.

The bible is a wonderful blueprint of history and law, like a constitution and inspired by God but it was still written by individual humans and we know what humans are capable of. It can be interpreted in many ways. One of the best interpreters I've read is John Stott. He really gives metaphorical meaning to the literal words and breaks the bible down into things like 'nature is divine creation and culture is human cultivation'. I put organised religions under culture. The tree of knowledge in Eden I think we all meet in life. 'The snake is mythical' it's a symbol of our choice to do good or not. Anyway I'm going off the deep end now........ lol

I'm with you. I've always thought he sang CAN'T believe in. I always assumed there was a theological point behind it, but I didn't know what.
