There have been so many but I had no hesitation with thinking the following:

1)

Superbowl performance - the realisation that Prince had finally come full circle and was being witnessed around the world and getting major props; this after 'the wilderness years' and as an independent doing things 'his way'

2) 2012 (If), as seems plausible, Prince does reach out to all his associated artists and embrace them by sharing his stage with them this could truly be THE year we as fans remember as a special, best moment cool

1. 1982-1985 and everything he did during those years. He had the Midas touch back then.Everything he touched turned to gold, and artistically, it was my favorite era, too. Although I must say there are some gems on SOTT and Lovesexy but those albums were not as cohesive as the 1982-85 releases. Fans here love to downplay that era because they deem it as "commercial" but Prince was at his creative peak. I love the music of that era as a whole. The later stuff had moments of greatness (If I Was Your Girlfriend, Adore, I Wish U Heaven, Ballad Of Dorothy Parker, SOTT), but 1999, Purple Rain and Around the World In A Day plus all those b-sides and outtakes are still my favorite music to this day.

2. The Academy Awards/winning an Oscar

3.The Superbowl performance

4.The Syracuse concert

5.Lovesexy shows in Europe

6.The American Music Awards in 1985

7.The Musicology era..though musically, it didn´t do much for me but it was nice to see the masses appreciate Prince again.

Top 10(in no particular order):

-Superbowl Halftime Show

-Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame (really cemented his legacy as a guitar god) + Musicology tour

-entire Purple Rain project

-Slave prince (actually groundbreaking and innovative proved he was ahead of his time by decades)

-His legendary run at 02 in England

-Dirty Mind Album (the album where he really became, you know, Prince)

-1999 album & tour

-Gett Off live at the 1991 MTV music awards Arsenio Hall 1991

-Grammy's 2004 with Beyonce

-Putting 1st Ave on the Map (pick a show, any show)

Making the videos for 1999 and Little Red Corvette (and to a lesser extent Let's Pretend We're Married and Automatic, which were filmed on the same set).

Those videos were a MAJOR step forward for Prince as a performer and for his visual presence as an artist. In comparison, his performances for the Prince album were very awkward, Dirty Mind was cool but weird, and Controversy was a less successful attempt at going mainstream.

1999 and LRC brought Prince to the masses, and that financial security allowed him to make great, sometimes experimental music over his career. The charisma he displayed in playing coy with the camera and pulling his shirt down to expose a little bit of chest were cool. Having the ladies doing the vaguely lesbian thing was an eye catcher. Even Bobby Z.'s electronic drumpads drum set was decent. Those videos and the strength of those songs put him over the top.

wow, compared to the much seen Arsenio Hall performance (which was great in my opinion)... I actually consider the Gett Off performance to be a huge dud, starting with his mic turning away at the beginning, the lackluster blocking and choreaography, and ending with Arsenio ridiculing the dancer/models who were trying to stay onstage after and be motionless. The butt out pants was the only crazy thing people were talking about, so I'll give it that.. I also dislike the Gett Off video as it seems just thrown together on the Paisley stage, and also that bad choreography of everyone piledriving Prince, I mean piling up on Prince, that literally explains the scream at the beginning... not cool!

I think the Cream video was much more well shot and edited and costumed and lit.

So, you're saying Musicology was "funky"? If so, are you sure you know what funk truly is? Apparently not, if you think there was anything remotely funky about that album or the era.

Don't know what he personally considers the best, but the night when Purple Rain was recorded must have been a pretty damn amazing one.

I am personally amazed by the creativity he showcased in '86-'87 too. When SOTT and all those amazing outtakes were recorded.

The Rick James vs. Prince early years. Nothing like a good feud to bring out the best music in both of them.

Andy is a four letter word.

Each artist has ups and downs as did & does Prince. Nothing will ever exceed Purple Rain and the immediate years that followed. He has come close with other victories and successes.
