Even if it's a bootleg, if they used the HD broadcast version it would be GOOD!

Barcode 9337369003337

The "Sign O The Times" album represented the pinnacle of Prince's career, with its blend of songs and music styles.
On its original (cinematic and video) release this film was more or less declared to be the "Greatest Concert Film" ever made. Prince and his 1987 entourage whiz, slide, jump and bounce around the stage during the collection of 14 classic songs. Having recently ditched his Revolution band the year before, fans are treated with an introduction to new sidekicks and cohorts, with Shelia E now on drums, Boni Boyer on keyboards and supporting vocals and the frenetic Cat (Glover) providing enough bump and grind for everyone.

Digitally remastered and Mixed into Dolby Digital 5.1 format, this is an essential collectable for Prince fans that be will sure to give your surrounds and sub woofer a good work out.

Hmmm, that release date... Is this out yet?

Ah wait, this is the DVD release! http://www.wheelers.co.nz...view=list So that's good news, because it shows they do have the rights to this movie.

Just noticed on one of the online retailers: "Available Wednesday, 09 May 2012".

That release date is also mentioned on http://www.devoteddvd.com...t_id=78376

.

If it's real, you'll have to have a multi-regional player if you live in the States & Canada, since it will be region B locked according to the link. They're players out there that can do that fortunately like the older version of the Insignia brand sold at Best Buy.

Yeah, for you Europeans lol , but I'm not sure if U.S. fans will go through the trouble of buying a multiregional blu-ray player just to play this one Blu-ray. I just checked Best Buy's site and the Insignia can still be purchased online, refurbished for around 50 to 60 bucks.

Note that some US TVs cannot handle the framerate of some European BDs. Though I doubt it will be an issue here.

An alternative could be to rip the BD with the BD-player in your PC and put the resulting file on something like a WDTV box.

It is an extreme rarity these days for a 24p film originated blu-ray to actually be converted from 24fps to 25fps interlaced (with the accompanying slightly sped up higher pitched audio) into PAL format. Normally all film originated blu-rays around the world are the same resolution and framerate movie file, but region coded to only play in certain players.

If it does come out, I hope there's more then one audio option then lossy dolby digital, like LPCM 2 channel.

Interesting still.
No PCM audio?
Regions are for copyright law abiding people.

And no, I do not have a BR player. This might be the reason to find one.

According to Via Vision: "The specs are 1080p, DTS HD Master Audio - beautifully Remastered". A clip may be forthcoming.

(BTW Why isn't this news that belongs on the frontpage or at least a sticky? Methinks a brand-spanking new release would deserve such an honor.)

Bart, might depend on the remastering: previous remasters were not all that good.

But let's have good hope.

I can order a few if you are not in a hurry.

The description of "Beautifully remastered" makes this seem like it might be a bootleg release like the Brazilian DVD that masqueraded as a professional release (and was not produced through any kind of professional process).

The reason is that an HD master and 5.1 master mix exists because it showed on Encore HD and the Canadian pro DVD appeared around the same time. That DVD master seems perfect and completely pro (same as what was then released in the UK).

It would take money to go back and redo it (hire a company to remaster it again). It seems unlikely that a company would go through that investment and and expect a good return on blu-ray that is not released with major promotion in the bigger countries.

Of course maybe the "remastered" is referring to that previous master. Maybe they're not adding anything to it, and just transferring it to blu-ray.

Hope so!

Madman are very good and do alot of manga remasters to DVD and now Blu Ray. I think they would have done a great job on this one. (just a guess).

They must have sourced a print and scanned it and re done the audio. I preordered it already.

Its on legit Aussie retailer websites as a preorder.

My guess is its going to rock.

IIRC "Via Vision" handles all "Alliance Atlantis" releases in Australia...

("CB Films", "Cineplex Odeon" and "MCA" were the original distributors of the film...
"Galaxy Entertainment Inc." merged with "Alliance Atlantis Communications" and in 2003 merged with "Cineplex Odeon Corp" (which I posted here on the .org regarding the rights of the SOTT movie in 2003...)

Neversin.

Madman seems like a distribution company that packages ad promotes stuff and produces menus for their discs, do they really do film negative scanning and HD mastering?

In-fricking-credible.

Go read my post. Actually read it. And you'll notice that Madman are the distributor, whereas Via Vision are the company producing the disc.

I wonder why I bother.
