Prince family newsletter - Edwena Brunell (RIP)

It is with great sadness to inform the group that my friend and one the creators of the big weekly newsletter Prince family, Edwena Brunell passed away on March 6 in the state of Florida.

http://www.legacy.com/obi...=156361375

Besides the newsletter Edwena used to have fan gatherings at her house in Chicago in the 1990s. She also sponsored a tape lending program.

RIP Blue, your buddy Serg

Now there's a name I haven't heard in years. Sad to hear it in this context.

(It's too bad there isn't a written history of Prince fandom, so people like her could get proper credit for their involvement.)

Sad, R.i.p. cry

IIRC there was a princefamily site/homepage, and it was really great (in the mid- to late 90's.. (I could be wrong, long time ago..)?

A friend of mine David also from Denmark, was a subscriber back in 1998 -- IIRC the year, I saw those Prince newsletters - and they looked amazing.

They/ she had to change the name to Ø-Family, right before the shut down... again if I remember correctly.

^ sorry if the message isn't correct...

May she rest in peace.

Edwena "Lady Blue" was a great lady. She had many fan gaterings at her house in Chicago. I loved to chat with her as I dropped off and picked up my tapes. I work in the area and pass her old house aways thinking about those good times and wondirng how she was. Such a happy, giving, & loving soul.

God Bless You Edwena

Wow I use to get her newsletter back in the day. For of you that are too young to remember fandom before the internet her newsletter was a great way to connect fans. So sad to hear this

Wow! Where to even begin discussing what a loving, wonderful woman Edwena Brunell was? In all my dealings with Prince fans, I've never met a more loving and giving person as Edwena. My first association with her was when she was a USA regional rep for Controversy Magazine. I had purchased the Lovesexy Tour tapes and didn't know that there is a different VHS system for Europe and America. However, she helped me identify a company close to where I lived that could convert the tapes for me. That began an association with a woman who was a well of information and who would share anything with a Prince fan or help you access it. The Prince Tape Lending Library was like air for someone just getting into collecting Prince boots. It not only nourished my need for live Prince music and helped to build my own collection, but it helped me to learn the difference between quality and poor recordings. And along with Goldmine Magazine, Edwena helped me to learn which traders and sellers to trust. And on our first trip to Minneapolis, my wife and I had a two-hour layover in Chicago. She came to the station, got us, and took us to her home, sharing music from the live show that featured early music from The Beautiful Experience and The Gold Experience. When I think about it, she was so trusting and open. While we had corresponded for about five years via postal mail beginning in 1990, that meeting at the train station was the first face to face, and she treated us like family. As an African American male from Mississippi, one of the most racially intense places on the planet, I smile knowing that Edwena and Diana Dawkins, two white females, were a great gateway to obtaining information and much of my collection. She and Diana Dawkins had been on my mind a lot lately. For some reason, I had been reminiscing about my early endeavors of collecting Prince audio and video. Now, I hear that she has made her transition. Wow!, again, is all I can say. Rest in peace "Blue," rest in peace baby...I know there is a blue light shining somewhere for you…

RIP Edwena.

I will never forget the days of the Prince fam Newsletter. I remember calling the number frequently to get the scoop from Edwina and Diana. Those were the days, exciting times in the P world.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?
