Wax Poetics 52 Min Prince Mix (All My Dreams)

Got my edition (ebay coz i'm in the uk) & it seems worthwhile on flicking through. Lots of pictures I haven't seen before. In addition, on the website you can download a Prince mix to go with the magazine - there must be some Princely help with this, I mean, check out the track listing:

Wax Poetics Presents: A Prince Mix by DaM-FunK by Wax Poetics
TRACK LIST
1. Prince & the Revolution - 17 Days (original version)
2. DaM-FunK - 17 Days (D-F Re-Freak)
3. Prince - Irresistible Bitch (Props Re-Edit)
4. Prince (featuring Andre Cymone & Pepe Willie) - One Man Jam
5. Prince - Wet Dream Cousin
6. Prince - Dirty Mind (1981 Live Version)
7. Prince - Soft & Wet (original version)
8. Prince - Ballad Of Dorothy Parker (D-F Extended Re-Edit)
9. Prince - Sticky Like Glue (Props Re-Edit)
10. Prince & the Revolution - All My Dreams

When did 'All My Dreams' get an official release! The re-working of 17 Days is also cool.

Thats actually Dam Funk doing the mixtape, and he did a few things in the mix that I dug. I saw it in okayplayer but I had some reservation about posting it here, still I'm glad to see folks taking notice of it.

Thanks for headsup, andymacfunky! Knew about the mag (on its way, crossing the Atlantic ... can't wait), didn't know about the mix.

To answer your question, andymacfunky, I think you're right : as far as I know, this IS the first official release of 'All my dreams'. Anybody, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The mix proves one thing. Haven't heard 20ten in a long while, but Sticky Like Glue is a fantastic track (nice mix too).

True! Like that one, along with "Laydown" (not in the mix) from 20ten. Other tracks ... not so much.

The mix is pretty good. Playing it right now.

That doesn't make it official. A DJ's mixtape of someone else's work is not necessarily an official release.

You might be right, I'm starting to have doubts.

Here's my line of thinking when I wrote the above... In no way can P's people be unaware of WP doing a Prince special in issue 50 (think of the interviews, all the publicity), so I'm guessing they must know about the mix as well. We could assume WP got the official go ahead for the mix?

Then again, the mix does include tracks from the vault ('Wet Dream Cousin', 'All My Dreams'), so that could make us wonder about how 'official' the mix is.

Maybe P's people knew about the issue, but weren't informed of the mix?

Anyway, we got the mix, and that's the most important thing biggrin

I get your point wink So no more on that from me. How do you feel about the mix itself, mplsmike? I think it flows rather well.

Yeah, didn't All My Dreams surface as a streaming track in some other website feature article about Wendy and Lisa's contributions to Prince's music a while back? It wasn't spotify but something similar. What's that one that ends in "eeem"?

We all noted how they were using an unreleased track.

They should have got James Lavelle to do a mix.

Mind you, I suppose damfunk or whatever his name is was a whole lot cheaper.

Dirty Mind, live with no over-dubs, straight from a boot...

I, for one, have trouble believing it's sanctioned.

BTW, the mix was first mentioned on this thread:

There is too much bass and treble on some tracks, i dont want to have to mess with the EQ on every other song while im listening to it. As far as the crossfades and mixing shrug

But you know I still give them props biggrin I couldnt have doen any better lol

I enjoyed the mixes. I think some of these songs work better extended and Dam-Funk did a good job. I honestly now have a new apprciation for "Sticky Like Glue". The only track I found unnecessary was the "17 Days (D-F Re-Freak). I guess that was his self-promotional track? Not bad though.

Track List

1. Prince & the Revolution – 17 Days (original version)
2. DāM-FunK – 17 Days (D-F Re-Freak)
3. Prince – Irresistible Bitch (Props Re-Edit)
4. Prince (featuring Andre Cymone & Pepe Willie) – One Man Jam
5. Prince – Wet Dream Cousin
6. Prince – Dirty Mind (1981 Live Version)
7. Prince – Soft & Wet (original version)
8. Prince – Ballad Of Dorothy Parker (D-F Extended Re-Edit)
9. Prince – Sticky Like Glue (Props Re-Edit)
10. Prince & the Revolution – All My Dreams

Just know that everything I'm doing & living 'for the Funk' (as well as, in keeping Prince's creative contributions alive, to a whole new generation) is ALWAYS with well meaning, postive intentions & most importantly, with respect.

All the best 2 everyone whose (& been) supportive here, in regards 2 my hand in thangz &... for the ones whom are steadily taking their time 2 'accept' my humble contributions 2 the game?... I still sincerely wish U all the best, as well.

Okay but really the point is that its a bootleg and unofficial. So that's the big issue. Has very little to do with whether or not you're good. The mix isn't my thing (especially didn't need the 'cover' of 17 Days), but that's besides the point.

I mean, surely a professional realizes that publishing someone else's unpublished work is... Untoward? smile
