Okay but really the point is that its a bootleg and unofficial. So that's the big issue. Has very little to do with whether or not you're good. The mix isn't my thing (especially didn't need the 'cover' of 17 Days), but that's besides the point.

I mean, surely a professional realizes that publishing someone else's unpublished work is... Untoward? smile

My friend. Let's stop playin'.

First of all.. the mix IS 100% FREE!! Yes, it's a 'free download' to celebrate / coincide with this excellent magazines 'spotlight' on the 1 & only Prince (& related artist) period. There is & was no harm or foul done, whatsoever. So please, STOP with the making a mountain out of a mole hill.

(Please, inhale... & now, exhale. Thank U).

Lastly & humbly speaking, I feel I've kept it 'super real' by NOT including the obvious stuff we've all heard a trillion times on some 'normal tribute mix. U all know that the rare tracks included is what 'REAL heads' wanna hear & NOT "Little Red Corvette" or Glam Slam" on a mix.

I know I don't & I'm not afraid to admit it. Those can get listened to any day. This mix was 'meant' to be outside the box. And, that's exactly what it is. Different. U feel me?...Cool.

So, with that being said, this is my final response & interaction here (on this coveted forum) in regards to the (what was of course expected & so full of here on virtually every thread throughout this site) 'nitpicking' of this 'well intended & fun' mix, which is to shine light on 'the man' & 1 of my favorite artist of all time (right alongside the unsung Funk God: Junie Morrison... + Todd Rundgren & Steve Arrington) to ALL generations; new & now, wise.

Have a good day everyone & I continue 2 wish U ALL the best.

Now, back 2 'continuously' & humbly Modern-Funkin' the world.

Peace.

lol, You can keep inferring this means more to me than it does. I like that. That's cute.

Here in reality, though, I don't care. I'm not buying the magazine. This is a forum where things are discussed (as you clearly are aware - every thread, even). It's really that simple.

But I mean, you can stay pressed though. Oooh, dems angry Prince.org peoples is out ta eatcha.

The mix is cool and it is nice to see it done by a real fan. Honestly, I don't think it was presented as an "official" release, so I don't think there's any need to rag on the dude who put it together.

Ssome fans are obviously a little confused since Prince hasn't slapped down a lawsuit or cease and desist or something like so often before, so I guess they think it's 'legit' as it were.

Let's all regain our composure and enjoy a groovy mix! smile

I don't think it's far-fetched for people to wonder if this is an 'official' mix. It's being published in a magazine that purports to not be a salacious rag, so you expect those publications to follow the law. Not that the law is important to me in this respect, but it's just a curiosity. Surely someone wouldn't be so lame-brained to not think they would get clocked for copyright infringement?? I think that's the issue (if there is one) - that its surprising a magazine that takes itself so seriously would release a mix with illegal recordings on it.

O well. shrug

Can't find this specific mix but Waxpoetics' site also have a "MPLS Mix" featuring several unreleased (but circulating) outtakes.

I strongly doubt this is official or Prince-sanctioned (noticed how DaMFunK elegantly declined to answer the question about it being legal or not?), but on the other hand I remember what happened with Freemyheart.com 10 years ago and I'm quite surprised Prince would let an official magazine post boots on their site without taking action eek

This sums it up. As I said, I think it's cool that it includes a few boots. I am, however, confused as to how it came about. Props & thanks to DaMFunk for the efforts, I like & appreciate it. I'm just surprised WP risked it (if they're even aware) and surprised P's camp hasn't nixed it... yet. I hope they don't. I'd like to see (hear) more mixes like it. Cool! cool

While they have promoted the mix with the magazine it's not lik they have a CD of it attached to it book itself like some mags do. It's still just a download from a DJ like the thousand of others out there that have survived this long. Foefur, Lenka Paris have all done and they haven't been locked up yet. They're not profitting from the mix since you can DL it without buying the magazine. Seems like a no harm no foul situation and a cool little gift for the fans who want it.

I like the mix, I like DamFunk ( I happen to be a fan of his music, wish his pressed CDs would be a bit easier to find over here) but I also think that questions like those raised by Spinlight are perfectly justified and appropriate, considering that this is THE ultimate Prince fan site. But then again, I also understand that this is a very touchy subject. wink

I mean, I still don´t understand how a (once respected) magazine like Vibe got away with posting All My Dreams on their website back then, and I still don´t have an answer to this day but sometimes it´s better to just enjoy what you get without asking too many questions and without getting other people into trouble but you have to wonder how a professional looking magazine like Waxpoetic (or Vibe) can get away with this while others get sued over comparatively small things.

...does anybody have anything to say about the magazine?

Although it's $11.99 it actually comes up to $26.00 if ordered from the country I'm in. So I just wanted to know if it's worth it as I've read/watched pretty much every interview & seen pics courtesy of the (free) world wide web.

and, um, so as to not completely derail this thread...this mix is pretty good, i thought. 17 days, dorothy parker, sticky like glue...some of my favorites. nice to see them get some attention.
