soul train is about marketing your music. prince in 1979 didn't really known how to market his music across the board. he let his maangment talk him out of doing soul train because they play black music, even though he could have rectify the sistution about working with don on how to come across the soul train gang on the verbal side and perform two of his songs.

Michael (solo) was on Soul Train several times, and would have performed there also during the 80s if his presence wouldn't have shut the studio down due to stampeding fanatics. Why do you think MJ never did American Bandstand or Midnight Special anymore either? He was too huge at that point for all of those types of programs, regardless of whether they were aimed for Black or Caucasian audiences. Plus, despite his choice of wives and the way his children look, Michael's been Black. You apparently never saw MJ's 80s interviews with Ebony-Jet Showcase, which you couldn't have paid Prince to be on back then, even during the time he was talking to interviewers in '85-86.

Prince rarely made any TV appearances in his hey days because he refused 2 b interviewed. Solid Gold was perfect 4 him. Because they didn't require an interview. But it added 2 his mystic. Plus Prince would have NEVER let Don interview him. Which is why he only appeared on as guest host Holly Robinson...
