Dig, even better than what he can play which is everything, lol is the way he can take all their individual personalities arrange them all and make one beautiful sound.

To be honest, I think the whole "Prince plays a thousand instruments" thing a bit of a myth. Let's face it: He plays keys, guitar, bass, drums and vocals. That's pretty much it.

As a pro-musician myself, that's hardly brain exploding. I know lots and lots of people who can play as many different instruments. The difference is that he is a master at each of those five, and that he is able to record songs with them in a way that sounds like a unified band. Personally, I respect his composing/arranging skills more than his instrumental skills.

you're right. It is a myth. All you gotta do is go on youtube and look at his face on when he was being interviewed by Lisa Ling and Star Jones on The View back in 99. When they asked him is it true you play 27 instruments, his facial expression said it all.

Don’t forget analog synths. There’s a lot more to those than just playing the keys.

No, there is really not. In fact, since you are doing runs as opposed to chords, it is a lot easier is many aspects.

Of course he doesn't play "21" instruments, but does he really have to? Being as good as he is at five instruments IS already a huge achievment and something hardly anyone can do. Many musicians play one to two instruments quite well and can sing and play bits of one to two other instruments, but he is world class at all those instruments, which clearly sets him apart.

He plays a little bit of Sax but isn't very good at it, according to Candy.

Here is what a bass player who has worked with Victor Wooten once told me.
Prince can not play bass like Victor. Prince can not play
Guitar like Reggie Wooten. However, Prince can play many
Instruments at a highlevel plus he can write , sing and put
It all together and he ha practically no peers.

Come on Joey, your point is moot and you know it. NOBODY plays bass like Victor and NOBODY plays guitar like Reggie. You have to be somewhere in that gene pool.

Guys...all I am saying is that he's awesome but not b/c he's the 'greatest' guitar or bass player. It's b/c he can do it all. No one else can put it together like he has.

Little Red Corvette - when you break it down into pieces of music, you have a guy who's playing a rock song, singing at times like it's a r&b soul classic (you must be a limousine), screaming like it's gospel but playing some wicked guitar parts all in the same song. Then there is the video where he shows how awesome a performer he is too.

No one can do it all like him. That was my point.

Well, that was my point too. I never said he was the "greates", or "world's best" at anything!
